Poet - Really? Oh WOW that tickles me like nothing else, hahahaha XD But yeah, he's really neat :) Sometimes the things he says are a little off, but I swear he's the most forward thinking pope in quite some time :) And very accepting of people. I've never been a catholic, probably never will be, but I think it's wonderful for a major religious figure to be such a good example like he is :) It gives me hope that the world might change for the better with people like that in positions of authority.

Yea, it was an old pop song. But it's very true. Part of what makes me, well, me, is that I don't follow rules to well. I don't follow any crowd. I spent 6 years in the military, and I've got a disciplinary file, that would make a Michael Crichton book, look like a pamphlet. I do what I want. I'm far from a 'good servant, but I do the best I can. Religion isn't for everyone. But, my faith is one of the things that has gotten me through. You can be Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, what have you. If you truly believe, your faith will give you the strength and peace, that can carry you through any adversity. If you don't, that doesn't make you any lower than another. If you choose not to believe in something, than that is your choice. Free will, is free will. That's what I can't stand about extremist groups. If you don't believe as they do, you're wrong. If it's right for you, and makes you happy, and brings you peace, then go with it. Be happy, being you. If someone puts you down for it, don't get angry. You are you, something no one else can be.

Dude, how did this turn into a religious discussion?

Oh okay, good :) I'm glad we've reached a peaceful mutual respect on the issue :) I am at peace with my decision, a lot more than I ever thought I could possibly be, what with fear of hellfire drummed into me my whole life. But I do understand that faith brings a lot of comfort to millions of people, so I don't put it down.

I have to admit I was afraid I was going to have to bite my tongue something fierce there for a bit, haha.

Also... your description of your discipline file made me chuckle XD As a book person, I know exactly what you're saying, lol.

I'm going to be hiding until the religious talk is over because honestly, it's something I'm not really comfortable with.

I know it's not all bad but from my experience - having my parents use their Faith to basically act like I'm a bad person and a horrible person just for being me, it just all puts a very bad taste in my mouth.

Moonlit - *hugs* sorry for making you uncomfortable. I know what it's like to be treated badly by 'good christians' as well, and memories started coming up and now I can't sleep. Not because of my parents (who are honestly good people, despite any minor complaints I have), but I do have deep personal scars >>;

So perhaps a change of topic might be in order, what since we've all kind of reached an agreement to respect whatever works for each other?

My parents have hurt me deeply and really badly, but it was their choice. Oh well... I guess I'm just tired of hearing religion fought for and protected because right now I'm very anti-religion, because of all that's happened to me.

I'm not sure that I can stick around as I honestly am not sure I really feel safe in this safe space any more. :( I feel like I needed to talk about how my parents treated me because of religion and suddenly it because this massive thing of feeling the need to protect religion and talking about how good it is. :/ I feel like I Can't be myself in here, so I'll just leave you all and you all can continue talking about whatever you want to talk about. (It doesn't help I've been in a bit of an upset mood for the last few days.)

Yea. Never meant to make you uncomfortable, I was just enjoying having a religion/belief convo, and it not turn into a debate. If something bothers you, say so. No one will question you. This is supposed to be a safe place, to just hang out. Right?

Well... if most disney films based on old mythology were accurate though, I'm pretty sure children couldn't watch them

That's why I like mene so much. Sure some people get upset, but most people are kind enough.

I agree XD It would be interesting to see a more "accurate" take on old mythology. Those types of films would DEFINITELY be more geared towards an adult audience.

That said, I LOVED watching Disney films when I was growing up, especially the animated ones. Nowadays, I'm not so much into film watching, but if ever a really good one came along, I'd more than happily shell out the money for it!

Little Mermaid, her prince loved another, and she jumped into the sea, and became sea foam. Cinderella, one sister cut off her heal, the other cut off her toes. Now granted, I wouldn't let my kids watch that. But Frozen, they rewrote the entire story. Elsa wasn't a misunderstood, kindhearted princess, she was evil. She killed her sister. Sry, had a lil rant there. But anyway, bananas

I'm rarely one to speak up - something that I'm working on with my therapist... I'm usually one to just walk away when I'm not comfortable with something. :/ I may come back but right now this really doesn't feel like a safe space for me. Sorry.

I've read a lot of the older mythology. Honestly... they get pretty morbid... a lot of them are too graphic for television.

Wow.. Frozen seems pretty skewed by that logic

Do be safe moon

I'll do my best - I'm just doing my best to avoid any places that risk causing my stress levels to go up. I'm doing all I can to stay off bed rest (my doctor keeps threatening me with it).

Now as to the Greek classics. I have read some of Homer's work& even as a teen I thought many of the characters were petie & childish.
Give me beam stoker, Conan Doyle or Kipling.
On the American side I love poe& twain.
