I try to go every year.
Since the one in our state opened we might have missed going once.
I love it, my husband & I have been building costumes for years.
We used to buy it a piece at a time, but now we have started making parts of our own costumes. Sewing them whenever we get time.
Last year we made him a steampunk hat, vest & coat.
I already had my hat, corset & skirt, just had to make a bustle, which I'm still not happy with.
Gonna have to work on it a little more soon.
My husband started making a few coats for our friends, but he hasn't had time to finish them yet.
I have experimented on working on wigs for RenFest, some have turned out better than others.
The one I wore last year made me crazy it was long with curls & it kept getting tangled up in the chains & stuff on the corset.

Also gone as a Faerie a few times, but people keeping running into the wings.
One guy hit them hard enough he about ripped them off my shoulders, that hurt.

The burning of books is the work of facist.
Even a horrid book such as Fifty Shades.

I bought a dress from a costume shop years ago to wear. And it fits me better now. Which is a good thing.

Never even thought about reading that book.

My first costume for the Renaissance Festival was just a couple of twist skirts & a peasant blouse I got from a retail shop, nothing fancy.
I think I was probably about 11 or so when I went to my first Renaissance Festival.
It was while we were visiting a relative in Pennsylvania, she said it closed down several years ago.

I hope my corset will fit me better this year.
It is probably the most expensive single piece of my costume & the only thing I don't think I could make myself. It's so beautiful, absolutely love the way it looks & the colors.
Really need to find better shoes to wear this year, the boots I wore last year killed my feet, could barely walk the next day.

So sorry I completely went off the deep end! Wow you guys have gotten talkative that's awesome! I think this is the most active my thread has ever been.

Ava - I have to say I love your signature... but have you tried back scratches?

I had to skim over, but I saw you all were discussing 50 shades of eww. I think I'll pass on that. Wasn't that book basically just a bunch of abuse?

ERMAGERD back scratches are totally the best, I agree! Back rubs and back scratches make me purr like a kitten and go completely limp and fall asleep. Good gods I love it.

And yeah, it was :| It was supposedly romantic bdsm, but ended up being nothing more than just abuse. :P I think we decided to try to move past the subject of that book with some of us deciding that it should be burned and others deciding that no book deserves burning. (I'm in the camp of it is not a book, it is trash, and therefore incineration is totally appropriate, but hey, whatever :P lol)

I know my best friend has sharp nails so she gives amazing backscratches

I decided to google some quotes and I came across a site with a big list of 50 of them. I say instead of burning it and wasting perfectly good paper, we shred them and use it for packing material

Quote:
Christian: “Dr. Green is coming to sort you out…”
Ana: “Why?”
Christian: “Because I hate condoms …”
Ana: “It’s my body.”
Christian: “It’s mine, too.”
But that quote alone states that he feels that she is is property which is slavery

I tried "Bondage" once... but eh... not all that interested... but that Japanese bondage though is gorgeous... I wish I knew how to do that simply because of how artistic it is.

Hmm I may need to revive my 18+ thread

I'm going to the RenFest this year as a faun.
I made my own faun legs and I'm quite excited to go this year!

I also added horns and a corset to my costume this year so that will be interesting! I usually have my midriff showing, but this year I went crazy and bought three corsets. One I will wear to the Renaissance festival!

Ohh, Poet! You're silly. :)
I agree, I don't like 50 Shades and I think it would be better as packing material.
I haven't read the book, but the exerts I've seen on tumblr don't impress me much.

I am alright with bondage as long as it's done right and safely.

Wow, alot going on. To much to catch up on. But I saw ren fair, and fifty shades of suck. Goes from awesomeness, to one of the trashiest, worst written, and totally misrepresenting works of, darer I say, literature, ever produced.

---------- Post added 09-13-2015 at 06:46 PM ----------

I haven't been to a ren fair in years. They just started one in my town this year. Fifty shades of grey, was a horrible misrepresentation of a dominant/submissive relationship. Christian Grey, was a sadistic, control freak, stalker.

---------- Post added 09-13-2015 at 06:47 PM ----------

I didn't get alot of the rest, but my dad was a bit of a bully, until I knocked him on his arse.

---------- Post added 09-13-2015 at 06:55 PM ----------

@Poet- What you're referring to, is called Shibari. It's not so much about bondage, as it is art. Though in many bondage situations, rope is used, and many times in an artistic form, it's usually about restraint, rather than art.

In a BDSM relationship, he submissive, is in a way property. (I use she, for simplicity's sake) She belongs to her dominant/master, by choice. If at any time she wants out, or to forgo that aspect of the relationship, she is free to. In a real D/S relationship, there is an agreement, whether verbal or written. They are both bound by that agreement, until the relationship, whether in whole, or the D/S aspect, is ended.

---------- Post added 09-13-2015 at 06:59 PM ----------

It's called exchange of power. She submits to his ownership, and does as asked/ordered. But, she holds the power. She can say stop at any time (which sometimes means a safe word) and all bondage activity stops. The moment he crosses that line, it is no longer consensual, and is thereafter abuse.

---------- Post added 09-13-2015 at 07:09 PM ----------

My girlfriend and I, are in a D/S relationship, and I am the dominant. Most of the time, it's like any other relationship. We both do our own thing. I work 40 hrs a week, she does her radio show, and works on her store. We actually share household responsibility. But I am alpha. Decisions are made together, but I make the final call. In some D/S/ relationships, the submissive is made, nanny, sex/torture toy, and the dominant takes care of the money, and his sub (as in her masochistic desires, and his sadistic urges) But, if she says stop, or no more, it stops, until she's comfortable with it. There's been times I've had to use the safe word for her.

Ava - What kind of event is that? A comicon type thing?

Storm - Yeah, it's the art aspect that appeals to me. It's so pretty.
Definitely. It's all about the agreements of it, and they are willingly bound to that. I've seen a lot of comics and stuff lately about the "proper care" afterwards. Cuddling, lotion to help with the pain, etc.

I'm going to revive my 18+ thread this topic definitely belongs there more than here. It's right here. Could we continue the adult conversation there? (BDSM and such topic currently active)

Ava The Vampire:
I would love to see a picture of your faun if you don't mind posting it.
Haven't seen anyone go as a faun before, one year we did see a satyr, he was so cool looking.
I think I go to look at all the costumes more than I go to see the shows anymore.
Some people just make/wear such interesting costumes.
