Rachel paused, and did a double-take.

"That's... taking it a little far now, don't you think?" she asked, although she sounded the slightest bit uncertain. Something wasn't right.

"Taking what a little far?" Hook asked reasonably. "This is a reminder to me." He tapped the tip of the hook on the counter gently.

"Okay, then," Rachel said, turning back to face the counter. The guy had been amusing to talk to up until that moment. Now he was a little creepy.

Hook noticed that and chuckled. Ah, people here were so easily startled, so paranoid.

"So, who did you used to be before you came here?" he asked, raising an eyebrow at her.

Rachel almost didn't want to respond. He was still kind of being a creeper, but the question made her pause.

"What do you mean?" she asked, glancing at him again.

"You know, before the curse," Hook said with a shrug. "Back over on the other realm. Who were you? Can't say I recognize you, and I knew a great many people."

Rachel blinked. Okay, now they were edging into crazy territory.

"No, really," she said, "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Hook!" Granny snapped. She gave him a Look that said to knock it off, and shook her head just slightly.

Hook blinked. Someone who didn't know, didn't remember? Oh, this was priceless. He was sure Cora would just love to know about that little misbehaving bit of the curse. He grinned at Granny, showing a few too many teeth to be soothing, and went back to his water.

Granny gave him a wary look, but didn't say anything else. Rachel just glanced between them, unsettled, before turning to the plate that was being set in front of her.

Hook didn't say anything else, content to sit there and drink his water and watch everyone else. It was rather fun, he had to admit.

Rachel ate her lunch quickly, and then texted Tina. There's something going on in this town, but I don't know what.

Yeah, I got that feeling too, Tina texted back. I talked to Mr. Gold again and he knows more than he's saying.

Ask me about Pirate Guy when we get back to our room. Because there was no way she was typing all that out on a phone where anyone could read over her shoulder. Quickly, she paid for her lunch and headed out of the diner.

Tina blinked but shrugged and headed back to the hotel. Now she was curious.

"So what's going on?" she asked when she got up to Rachel's room, frowning a little.

"Okay, so this guy," Rachel said as she sat on the bed. "He sat down next to me, and he was all dressed like a pirate, but not like the stereotypical peg-leg-eye-patch thing. More along the lines of Jack Sparrow. And god he was a flirt. But then he started asking me who I used to be, and that's a weird question, but he was persistent until the lady who runs the diner kind of snapped at him. But this guy, he called himself Hook, and I swear to you, Tina, he had a metal hook on one hand." She was rambling, but she desperately needed to tell her friend what went down, because it was that weird.

Tina blinked several times at the flood of information.

"Okay, slow down a bit. You went to the diner and this guy sat next to you dressed like Jack Sparrow but with a metal hook in his hand, and he called himself Hook?"

"Not like in his hand, like as his hand, and it was weird and kind of creepy, but the weirdest part was that he kept asking me who I used to be." Of course, Rachel knew just how weird it was that this guy was trying to look like a pirate, but considering that she'd been called a different name by a few different people already, she was more focused on that than anything else.

Tina nodded slowly, thinking hard. "Well, you know, it's odd that he's not the first to ask you that, basically. I mean, those others called you by the other name too. So what's it all about?"

"I don't know, but it's too much now to be coincidence," Rachel replied. "Something's going on, here, and nobody wants to talk about it."

"Yeah, I know." Tina frowned. "Maybe I'll go talk to Mr. Gold again, tomorrow maybe. See if I can get some answers out of him."

"I might just hang out in the library," Rachel muttered. "Away from all the crazy pirates and things."

"Yeah, I can't say I blame you for that," Tina said quietly. "Want some company? I think some reading sounds good right now."

Rachel paused for a moment, then nodded.

"Sure," she said, "company sounds good." She grinned. "They've got that series you like, that one you told me about with the thing and the other bit."

Tina snickered. "There are lots of series like that," she joked, grinning. "Come on, let's go find a nice quiet corner to settle down in."

Rachel nodded, and headed out with Tina. Hanging out in the library with her friend definitely beat out being weirded out by some guy who thought he was a pirate.
