"I love it. I'm going to have to see about getting some vegetable seeds, too." Tina ginned.

"Those are easy enough to get in town," Gold said. "I can take care of that for you, if you like."

Tina looked at him for a moment before she smiled. "Sure, if it's not a bother." He was making allowances for her, so she'd let him take care of some things for her.

"I need to take a look at the market, anyway," Gold said. There were some things he needed that he couldn't just magic up. "I'll see what I can find for you."

Tina nodded. "Whatever you can find is fine," she assured him. "In this instance, I'll let you take care of me."

Almost a week later Tina had arranged for Rachel's first lesson, having spent time convincing Gold it was a good idea and no, he did not need payment from Rachel for teaching her (as Tina managed to take care of that). But she did slip out into the greenhouse to tend her plants before Rachel arrived, in case Gold decided he wanted her to stay out there.
Hook, of course, was going along. Because he didn't trust Gold not to do anything to Rachel while he wasn't there to watch out for her, and he didn't trust Gold. So he'd gone along just to be sure.

Rachel was a little nervous at having magic lessons. She didn't remember anything from her lessons 'before,' so she wasn't sure what she was going to be doing. She wasn't even sure she could do anything more than the little candle flame trick. But she was glad Hook was coming with her; it was kind of comforting.

Tina went and poked her head down the stairs when she saw Hook and Rachel. "They're headed this way. Want me to go occupy myself in the greenhouse?"
Hook kept one arm around Rachel, letting her set the pace. He wasn't exactly for Gold teaching her, but he agreed that someone should teach her so she didn't hurt herself.
That didn't mean he liked Gold any more, though.

"Only if you want me to try to kill him," Gold muttered as he watched the two approach. He was very less-than-pleased about Hook showing up, and he wasn't even going to pretend otherwise.
Rachel stayed close to Hook as they got closer.
"Please try not to intentionally make him angry?" she asked him. "I really don't want my homework assignment to end up being 'turn the rat back into a pirate.'"

Tina smiled a little and walked over, kissing his cheek. "I'll stick around, then, if only to make sure nothing goes poorly."
Hook snorted. "I won't," he said quietly. "Though for your sake, not his." Because while it was fun to piss off Gold, he didn't want to do so while the crocodile was teaching Rachel.

In hindsight, Gold shouldn't have expected the magic lesson to go any better than it did. He just thanked his lucky star that his magical reflexes were as sharp as ever, especially after the first explosion. Because clearly, Rachel hadn't realized that whatever she had been able to do in Storybrooke was much, much more potent in this world.
Rachel hadn't meant for the little candle flame trick to explode, really.

After the first explosion, Tina backed a safe distance away, pulling Hook with her and keeping him out of trouble. Mostly by testing his reflexes throwing a ball of yarn at him at random (and usually inopportune) times.
Hook was just very, very glad he hadn't encouraged Rachel to try magic on his ship.

Finally, Gold had had enough of the explosions and pulled out a small cloth bag.
"Here," he said. "Take this, and practice your control with it." Rachel took the bag, confused, but Gold waved her off. "Now go. Be back in three days, I will test you again then."

Hook was quick to stride over and take Rachel's arm, leading her out of the castle.
"Well," he said one they were outside, a grin twitching his lips, "that was a little more showy than I expected."
Tina gave Gold a minute before she walked over, quirking an eyebrow at him in silent question.

"I honestly didn't expect everything to explode," Rachel said as she walked with him. "I swear that didn't happen last time."
Gold took a moment to make sure he was calm before he looked at Tina.
"I would have thought at least some lessons would stick," he commented finally.

Hook shrugged. "Maybe it's just a matter of getting used to it again?" he suggested.
Tina nodded. "I know, but her memory has even more gaps than mine, and she's not trying to remember. Try thinking of it more as reteaching rather than testing what she remembers." After a moment she moved closer, wrapping her arms around his middle.

"I don't know, maybe," Rachel said. She shrugged a bit.
Gold let her hug him, putting one arm around her shoulders.
"Why would she not be trying to remember?" he asked after a moment. "One would think she would want to know who she is again."

"However it works... no offense, but I'd prefer if you not practice on my ship for the time being," Hook said with a little grin to let her know there were no hard feelings on his part. "We'll find a nicer spot for you near the dock."
Tina shrugged, careful not to dislodge her arm. "I can't tell you how her mind works," she said quietly. "I just know that she doesn't know what she's doing, and she's still very much a beginner who needs some guidance."

"And she will receive guidance," Gold said. "It will just take... patience. On all sides."

Hook grinned and led her back to the ship. "How do you feel?" He looked down at her, not quite worried but interested. She had lived in the castle, and he was curious to know if she'd had any more memories pop up.
"I know. Twice a week should be more than enough." Tina kissed his cheek before she backed off a bit. "Now go soak for a while, it'll help you feel better."
