hmm. I've gotten those types of pings that lead nowhere before. I don't know...

It is a pain... because when quoted, because it doesn't turn into a link it can be repinged infinitely..

That's another thing I rarely do, quote people on mene. I feel it moves slow enough that quoting is necessary to show who you were responding to.

Yeah I'm far too lazy to quote people... I just do @ Username - and that's it if I do at all

If I need to get someone's attention I usually prefix with something like.
Poet! Hey that thing that happened, is happening. XD

It seems to work. most people are tuned into their name, so when it appears they go "Oh Hey someone mentioned me!"
and it's not obnoxious like pings. but pings can be helpful, too.

yeah. I ping if A) it's important, or B) they are being invited somewhere or haven't posted in a very long time

Doesn't generally work for me. I have to be pinged, because I tend to lose track of threads, mostly due to real life things that keep me away from computer for long stretches of time.

pings usually are effective as a way of getting my attention. Can be useful, but because of the PM nature of pings I try to avoid pinging unless I really want to get certain peoples' attention.

At my high school canteen there were two sides you could pick to line up, and for each side there was a door and the exit was in the middle. It was funny to try to work out which side was quickest when the canteen was busy. Because you couldn't see the lines until you went in the door. The previous two posts kind of reminded me of this for some reason.

We had two lines in the cafeteria too. But they went to different types of food. Line A went to pizza and subs and B went to the meal of the day.

See, that makes sense, because they lead to a different place for different food, but at my school the stuff you could buy was the same on both sides, only you could see the canteen staff and volunteer students rushing about to get the food that was ordered.

hmm. I dunno then. In college it was set up much like a food court at a mall, but the check out was closer to the seating so no matter how you got in you had to pass through the registers before you could leave.

I think my school's canteen was just weird because of the two lines. I recently had a field placement for uni at a high school, and their canteen only had the one line.

Canteens at schools here based on what I've seen anyway are usually just a small building where you can go to buy lunch or snacks during recess or lunch breaks. There are no seats or tables inside said buildings. Once you've got your stuff and paid for it youi go outside in the schoolyard to eat it.

That sounds like a fantastic idea, but unfortunately not a feasible one for where I went to Uni. For most of the school year the grounds were covered in at least a foot of snow, sometimes four feet.

Uni cafeterias do have seating and tables actually indoors actually. At my campus there is also a cafe with barista coffee and all that jazz not far from the cafeteria.
