well, some religions require you to bring your child up believing in that religion.
of course, with free choice when they are grown it's up to them as to what they practice.

That is pretty much how it is for me. I'm a protestant and good parents makes sure that their kids are hard working, kind, compassionate, truthful, respectful, thoughtful, and love God above all else. That last part would be the part that would be in dispute with other religions.

None. I'm overseas in South Korea and found that thanks to culture differences in how females roles in home life should be, a Korean isn't an option. I really liked one. I thought maybe he would be okay to date and someday consider marrying. But... he has a girl friend so totally off limits. At this point resigned to waiting a year until I am stateside again.

... I am a real life person in real life. So... unseen forces like God... I don't really pay as enough attention to him.
I just believe that there is a law of universe/force/ or however you wanna call it.
I touch a bit of several religion to come to conclusion that, all religion meant well. But even so, believers of each religions do have sinful and bad people. So, it is not really the religion that is at fault. It is the human, the person himself. It is the person that is to be responsible for their own choices.
I am trying to proof a point to my Buddhist parents that, without all those praying and praising I can still be a good person.
Currently, I understand Buddhism more and in compare with other religion it is as of yet explain most of the things.

I understand your point of view. There was a time when I had to decide to continue in my religion by coming up with my own reasons for following God instead of my parents' reasons... or to go my own way. To just be a good person. I chose my path. But before I did, I was angry because so many people I thought should be perfect because they were in my church weren't perfect. I felt betrayed by hypocrites. Since then I have come to my own understanding and accepted it. I live my life to the best of my abilities and let God take care of the rest.
I just hope that should the day come when I am a mother... I raise my kids well. To be good kids. Being a teacher has made me slightly cynical. I run across spoiled kids who have no understanding or desire for responsibility. Don't know if I want such a burden.

i know how you feel,mai.
my cousin is a Priest.
i saw him at our church fair,
drinking and smoking and swearing.
i was shocked and he explained to me that he is human
and only God is perfect.
it still was hard to hear.

That is just an excuse :( My brother is a soldier in the army. His swearing is a part of their way of communication. There would be lack of communication without it. So I understand that. He drinks, but it is a way to blow off steam and relax. Considering where he is, I understand that too. He started smoking after his first convey into battle to save some soldiers under fire. He said it was the only way to calm down, focus, and stay awake afterwards when the adrenaline wore off. I understand that. War sucks.
But when the Bible teacher at school says that something is a certain way just because... I get angry. I like reasons that are logical and make sense. I want to know where something comes from and why it is the way it is. Opinions only bother me. Then hearing elders in the church misquote or use spiritual sayings out of context, I really get upset. That happened in high school and I was forced to make a choice. It wasn't easy and took several years of learning the Bible for myself before I could decide.
I'm still not sure on some things. The Bible says do not kill, yet my dad will use a gun to defend home and family and my brother fights as a soldier. They are not wrong in my opinion. It is something I have to figure out for myself.
Wow, we went from talking about my avatar to some deep stuff.

War is a mess up.
Human's fault.
I am sure all religion meant well, and they are useful for guidance of lost sheep. To me, the religion's rules or policies are like a well documented library of human behaviour. I would quote from any religion in my advice to people case by case.
Maybe as kids, it is easier to guide them through religion. Not sure, but I grew up in Buddhism without really understand most of it.
Life is imperfect. So is human.
You know, my theory is god is imperfect too. Because the imperfect makes things different, unique and special.

Funny how different things shock little kids.
When I was young, my mom told me she made me a friend where we were moving. So I assumed that the other girl was my friend... and only my friend. It was a shock when I had to share her.

I wish war didn't exist. I hate the idea of even one person dying, no matter their past. A life is a precious, very precious thing.
