this site seems kinda slow...
is it just because the time of day?

Well there are slower sites, that is for sure. You will just have to search around (The mene nation is a good place to check, or the RP forum, if you RP) for different active threads. A lot of avatar sites are much smaller then Gaia, but I hope that doesn't remove from your want to try out the site more!

Hi. I just joined too. It does seem slow, but as long as there are enough people to talk to to earn enough gold to do something on here, then I am fine. It looks like they are gearing p for an event, so maybe I joined at the right time.

That right, there will be an event soon! There are some pre-event contest threads, and a hangout as well, for preping for the event.
