"That's not reassuring," Maeve murmured. She knew Julie could take care of herself, but she was still worried. Hydra was still out there trying to hunt down the remaining Shield agents, and going to ground wasn't even a sure bet.

"I can track her down, if you want," Tony offered. "Shouldn't be hard for me to do." He was rocking a bit on his feet, watching her.

That made Maeve pause.

"If you can track her, why haven't you before now?" she asked, looking at him.

"I didn't need to?" Tony shrugged. "Look, she's nice and all, but she is--or was--dating Cap. Not my problem." He held his hands up to fend off the impending argument he figured she'd mount against him. "Besides, I was busy, and I can't keep track of everyone."

"You kept track of me," Maeve pointed out. "You told me you did."

"Yeah," Tony said slowly. "Of course I kept track of you." He gave her an odd look, like she was baiting him or something. Then his phone chirped at him. "Right, okay, Pep's calling me, need to go deal with that. You settle in, your room, after all. Okay? Okay. We're having a movie night." And then Tony strode out of the room and hurried to the elevator to avoid potential Feelings.

Because he'd already splashed them over the walls, in his own way, since he'd personally overseen the decorating of Maeve's rooms. And they were her rooms; he'd picked everything in the suite with her in mind.

Maeve watched him go, and sat down with a sigh. Gardevoir touched her shoulder gently.

"I don't get it," she said. "He makes no sense."

"Welcome back," Jarvis said. "I have been instructed to let you know that there are snacks in the kitchen, and if you need other groceries to alert me."

Maeve jumped at that.

"Arceus Almighty, I forgot you were there, Jarvis," she said.

"My apologies, I didn't intend to startle you," Jarvis said, though he sounded rather amused.

"It's okay," Maeve replied, sitting down on a surprisingly comfortable chair. "I guess I was a bit distracted. For a genius, Tony makes no sense sometimes."

"Sir is... unusual," Jarvis said slowly. "He does not show affection the way most people do."

"Affection?" Maeve repeated, raising an eyebrow. "The last time we interacted before the world went to shit, we fought. I doubt there's much affection there."

"I'm afraid I must disagree," Jarvis said. "Sir thought about calling you many times, but you were in hiding. He was angry, yes, but he is not anymore, and he has not been for a while. He had this room set up for you four weeks ago."

"I--what?" Maeve asked, confused. She glanced around. The room was nice; comfortable and tasteful and it felt safe. "It's a spare suite, he said so himself."

"He said so because he did not wish to scare you off," Jarvis said gently. "He is not angry at you, but he wasn't sure how you currently feel towards him. For him, it is safer to not admit any feelings. He has always been better at showing people he cares through gifts than through words."

When Jarvis mentioned gifts, Maeve took a longer look around the suite, as if seeing it for the first time all over again.

"He... did this for me?" she asked. "But... we fought. He kicked me out."

"He did," Jarvis agreed. "And later that day rescinded his own words, to me at least. Sir fights with everyone he cares for. Miss Potts is perhaps the best example."

Maeve thought about that for a good long moment.

"Jarvis, what just happened?" she finally asked quietly.

"Sir gave you a gift," Jarvis replied gently. "One that he spent careful consideration on." He wasn't going to tell her everything outright, but he would lay own the groundwork for her to come to her own conclusions.

"But why?" Maeve asked, her voice a bit strained. "He's never done anything like this before, I haven't done anything to deserve it..."

"I believe Sir disagrees," Jarvis said. "As I said, he is not so good with emotions."

Maeve went quiet again at that.

"Thanks, Jarvis," she murmured. "I... I need to think about things for a bit, if it's alright with you."

"Take as much time as you'd like," Jarvis said. "Do let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with."

Maeve just nodded and went to find somewhere comfortable to sit and try to work through things. Because, apparently, there were a lot of Feelings to sort through, and most of them weren't even Tony's.
