"Alright." Julie jotted down the information so she could get the paperwork started. "Well, keep me updated if anything else happens, otherwise I'll see you when you get back.

"You know I will," Maeve said. "See you when I get back."

Julie hung up and went to go get the correct paperwork and at least get it started. She couldn't do all of it, but hey, that was less that Maeve would have to do.

It took a while longer for them to be loaded onto a quinjet and headed back to the States. Maeve settled into her seat with a wince and promptly drifted off to sleep.

Tony settled across from her to keep an eye on her. He would have just flown back to the States in his suit, but it wasn't meant for a flight that long.

Or at least that's the excuse he used so that he could keep an eye on Maeve.

Maeve slipped in and out of sleep, her shoulder flaring with pain every time it got jostled. Finally, she just decided to stay awake and sat up some.

"Are we almost home?" she asked.

"Another hour," Tony said, glancing up at her. He'd gotten out of the armor and he now had a pad in his hands, typing quietly as he worked.

Maeve nodded and leaned her head back. Then she looked at him.

"What happened back there?" she asked quietly.

Tony blinked and looked up. "What?" he asked, looking at her. Time for some mental scrambling for an excuse.

"You know what I'm talking about," Maeve said. She looked at him. "The kiss."

"Most people know what a kiss is," Tony agreed. "I don't think I've had anyone ask me what that was about before, that's a first for me. I think my pride is wounded."

"You're avoiding the subject," Maeve said. "Why did you kiss me?"

Tony paused at that. He didn't want to piss her off, but he didn't want to go into Feelings, either.

"I wanted to, clearly," he said, keeping his voice bland. "I overstepped. Happens all the time, just ask Peps, I'm sure she'd be glad to rant about me for a while."

Maeve was quiet for a moment.

"It wasn't unpleasant," she admitted. "Unexpected, but not unpleasant."

Tony blinked at that. Okay, so that wasn't so bad.

"Alright. So what is there to talk about?"

"People don't normally just randomly kiss me," Maeve said. "So why?"

Tony sighed. "Like I said, I wanted to," he said. He got up and started pacing again.

That didn't answer Maeve's question, but she got the feeling that Tony wasn't going to give her a straight answer about it and dropped the subject for the moment.

Tony was rather glad about that, so he stayed quiet for the rest of the flight. Which wasn't much longer.

"Do you need to go back to the helicarrier?"

Maeve nodded.

"At least for a little while," she said. "For proper medical and a debrief."

Tony nodded. "Well, good luck," he said with a little grin. "Warn Patchy I'll be seeing who didn't do their homework."

"If I don't get them first," Maeve muttered under her breath. "Or Coulson."

Tony just grinned.

"Let me know when you're home again," he said, getting off the quinjet at his tower. "Or text Julie."

Maeve nodded.

"I will," she said.

Tony nodded and headed inside to go put the suitcase armor away and go blow off some steam.
