We have to connect into a vpn for work, for security reasons (I work from home), and what's happening is my connection with work is dropping frequently. I work in real time, taking chats with people, and when this happens my chat program and everything I need to do my job drops. Sometimes it's only a minute and I'm back. I don't lose my person. Other times it can be nearly 10 minutes before it stabilizes itself.

Urgh they were trying to....saying that it was my ISP and ping issues cause I'd have the occasional spike. We're talking that it goes from 45ms, to 150ms, and then back down again. That is a little spike, but nothing else is dropped and in all honesty that doesn't denote that I am dropping. Everything else on my network is fine, the gateway fine....But then they're like try to swap out your gateway. It's like that came from my ISP and last year about the same time when I was having known issues on their end they replaced EVERYTHING on my property. It turned out being interference on our node, and it got fixed...but everything I have is so new that it can't be that. But then I call work's help desk and they keep on saying call your isp, do this, do that. I understand you have to work down the chain and rule out the most obvious, but after awhile of trying to do my best to isolate the situation and I cannot pinpoint it to a specific issue on my end it's like really?

That's what I keep on trying to stress to them. The thing that sucks is only the third tier of help desk people you can call. These people are on shift, and just know enough to do a little basic troubleshooting ("Have you turned it off and back on again?") kind of crap. If they can't solve it, they bump it up to a tier 2 who take a look at it and decide if it is something that had been escalated up inappropriately and/or something they can handle. I think they have fairly similar training/background as tier 1, but they liaison and maybe see certain issues crop up more than others.

Then you got the one guy who runs Tier 3, but he is the only one and the only one who actually is knowledgable and has a degree. Well he is the only guy for thousands of us, basically. He is a I'll call you kinda guy and there is literally no other way to reach him other than sending him an email (which he may or may not respond to) or going up from t1 up the ladder. Well he tried to call me on Monday, unbeknownst to me, as I was told someone at Tier 2 was getting back to me. Well his number shows up as unlisted, which I will not answer as we have a lot of bill collectors/solicitors who do that and I do not want to talk to them. If the number comes up with a certain area code I know it is work, but if it's totally blocked. No. I try to call him back on his phone number on his email, which goes back to T1. They tell me I have to email him a 2 hour time frame between the same hours I work and the only day the guy can get ahold of me is Friday. Well since work doesn't want to pay me to stay off I have to endear being dropped anywhere from 2 to 6 times within an 8 hour period. This may not seem like much, but it's frustrating when it happens, none the less, and the person who I'm working with then thinks it's something I did purposely because I didn't want to help them or didn't know what I was doing. They end up leaving me negative comments and scores about how I was horrible and didn't know what I'm doing.

Well my boss was nice enough to bump me from taking 2 chats to 1 chat, but it's still stressful dealing with this. All the while the tier 1 people have no idea what's going on and say that this tier 3 guy has left no notes, no idea of what the situation is. The whole thing is going to really piss me off if it is something really stupid to fix it and I sat and suffered for 2 weeks over it. :<
