Do you know about the Ferguson situation and #BlackLivesMatter? That's what's been pervading my Facebook newsfeed for the past few, well, many days. And the conversations, unlike the ones I have here on Menewsha, continue into real life and back again with my friends and colleagues.

Neither do I. But I have many friends who do. And it inevitably becomes a topic of conversation with said friends. Some of them feel very strongly about this situation.

Anywho, that is what is happening over on Facebook right now. What is happening in your Internet tabs? :)

Screw em. They can keep that political bullshit to themselves.

Well, it is political overall, but some of my friends feel it...personally? Does that make sense?

No reason to take it personally unless they are family members of the black kid that was a dumbass, or the cop that reacted the way he was trained.

Well, none of them are related to the people involved. What I mean is -- for example, one of my friends was next-door neighbors with an unarmed black child who was shot and killed by police. (She lives in a neighborhood with a reputation for such occurrences.) So, the recent incidences (and the decisions not to indict) bring back that memory of her neighbor. She feels that it could have been her younger brother in each of those situations.

I try to stay out of any political discussions and activism, but I am willing to lend an ear or shoulder to a friend who may be distraught due to political happenings.

Anyhow, I guess this is kind of a heavy subject. Please feel free to completely change the topic if you desire. ^_^

I'm prior military and just so happened to be MP. So I can easily side with the cop in this situation. We give people commands for a reason. And if people were to follow the laws that are in place in the first place, they wouldn't even have to deal with us. But if you choose not to follow the law and choose to ignore the commands we give you, or go beyond that and try to endanger our safety, it becomes a clear cut decision real fast. It's you or them. If we can help it, we do not shoot to kill, only to wound at which point we can call in medical support after detaining them. But it doesn't always play out that way. Sometimes the cop gets killed, other times it's the suspect.

Yep. I can also see how so many people that have no way of understanding either side got involved and are making things worse.

Yeah, and political figures had no business stepping in it at all.

I guess they felt the need to make their statements...also, politicians taking advantage of the situation and garnering potential voters.

Pretty much the only reason why they get involved.

I see it that way as well. I wouldn't be able to say this over on Facebook, though.

I say stuff like this all the time. I also ask that if they disagree to delete me because I don't need or want any idiots in my life if I can help it.

Ah, well I am Facebook friends with everyone from students to colleagues to my boss. Not exactly the ideal place to voice a differing opinion.

That said, I rarely post anything publicly on Facebook anyway. Mostly photos and private messaging.

I think we all added each other because of too many mutual photos that needed to be tagged.
