its quite good. paste of beans (not canned if you try to make it yourself :p) with sugar is quite good as an additive to icecream, pastries, milk drinks, and all sorts of things.

I like brown beans better. They're good for your heart and they make you fart!

I prefer the salty kind of moon cake. The sweet kind is usually too sickeningly sweet for me.

lol We don't get them ourselves! Here we usually buy mooncakes as gifts for others for the Moon Festival holiday. So the ones we got were all gifts from other people.

Ohhhh. Sorry, I forget it's different over there than over here in Sweden or even back when I lived in Japan
Speaking of Japan.. I kind of miss living there because Sweden doesn't have all of the foods I used to enjoy and the culture is different too.

What kinds of foods are you missing?

Yeah, despite being geographically closer to Japan than Sweden is, the culture is a lot different. I love the food there, but not the prices they're at... It's no wonder the majority of them are so thin...

There's no onigiri or rice balls and other sweet junk I like over here and lots of other foods they don't have either. They got sushi here but it's nothing compared to the sushi in Japan and the same goes for pizza.. They only have stuff on TOP of the pizza.. It's crazy back in Japan all sorts of stuff could go outside and inside the crust and even the under-crust of the pizza and the toppings are different too and less of a variety!
Don't blame the prices on stuff with the weight of people Dan. The way it works, junk food always costs less than healthier food usually. So what do poor people usually end up eating? Junk. And what happens when all of what you eat is junk? Fat! Fat happens, Dan!!>____>

Uh. Even their junk food contains less than what we have here, despite being from the same chain store. We went to a Mos Burger's while we were there and the burgers were ridiculously small and the drinks even more ridiculous. We ordered a takeout and when we got back to the hotel, we found that the sodas that had ice in them were only about two thirds full. Mine was even more ridiculous because I had asked that mine not have any ice, and I only got half a cup. Seriously, what the fuck?!

Well that's what you get for going to Mos's! Just kidding. Maybe it's because I'm used to the serving size but I don't think the burgers there or anything about it in general is too bad. Though in the take outs theydo tend to mess up orders.. It depends which one you were at....

The one we went to was located on a busy street...but it really sucked. I've been to a few Mos' here in Taiwan and none of them were ever this bad. My friend Ring was complaining about it too, especially since she was working at a Mos Burgers at the time. (Her manager had given her a load of money to buy tons of Pocky for her too before the trip, since there were a lot of flavors that we don't sell here that the manager wanted )

I love how the conversation quickly turned from moon cakes to crappy Japanese takeaway.

Cora: hope it's ok to ping you here, to answer your question about moon cakes, basically traditional moon cakes consist of a sweet softish biscuit outer layer with a rich filling...there are different fillings with mung bean paste being fairly common, and there's also what can roughly be translated as the 5 nut one...it consists of a variety of nuts and seeds and to soften the texture there's often crystalised ginger and pieces of chinese sausage thrown into the mix. It sounds weird, but the combination is one of those polarising ones that people either love or hate. Oh, and often moon cakes have salted duck egg yolk in the middle of the filling too...which I personally dislike but many people do like.

Moon cakes are usually available before the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, which for this year has just passed. They're expensive though...so if you get one, eat a quarter at a time...which is how most people would eat them anyway.

Hahaha, another interesting thing about Japanese cuisine is that most people here tend to think that their food is more bland...with less strong-tastes such as really salty, really spicy, or etc. But it turns out that oftentimes, a lot of their food are pretty strongly flavored...like the ramen restaurant we went to. Their menu were pretty much the same with the same type of ramen, but on it you could circle things like how much sauce you want in it, how salty, how much scallion you want, etc...I chose 'normal' for the salty bit, and nearly salt-ied my tongue off. My friend had it even worse because she ordered hers to be 'slightly' spicy...and was chugging down several cups of water every few sips of broth. ;
