SZVPHQ should find a way to stop poking
I got only halfway through reading the last few posts before I politely withdrew myself and gave the same reaction as SZVPHQ

How do they know if they haven't hit a vein? Will blood come out if they've hit a vein?
Also, can you feel the needle being removed? Can you also feel the rubber needle thing inside your skin?

I'm really curious about those things but also squeamish at the same time
lol Yeah if they hit a vein there'll usually be blood...but sometimes it's a bit hard to tell. Like the two holes I've got on my arms that weren't successful...after inserting the needle, they pumped in some saline to see if it's through and it was super OW, which told them that no, it wasn't successful, so they pulled it out again and tried it in some other place.

Usually I don't feel the needle being removed, since by the time they remove it the place is pretty sore already. I usually don't feel the rubber needle inside either, though sometimes if it's in a place like near my elbow, when I bend it it feels a little sore so I try not to move it around too much. But if it's a larger needle, like the one I got in my neck vein (due to sepsis shock and my very low blood pressure at the time, they needed to apply a special treatment that would be too rough for smaller veins, hence the major one in my neck), then yeah, I do feel the rubber needle inside, at least at first. ;; Not a pleasant feeling...I could feel it whenever I breathe or turn my head. But after a day or so I got used to it and don't feel the needle anymore. The soreness was constant though, so I'd rather have normal IVs than neck ones.

Yeah. My mom had to sign an agreement thing and all while I was in the ER. ;;

The insertion process was not pleasant. After inserting the IV line, the doctor also sewed the line protruding out the neck to my skin to anchor it. Ow.

My goodness, Ant! After reading that, I'm even more glad that you came out okay after going through those... needles. -shivers-

I don't know how I would be if I were in your place and I get to feel that rubber needle in my neck, I'd probably be in a constant state of anxiety or be in a state of anxiety everytime I feel that foreign thing in my neck

And this is the first time I've heard of someone needing a needle to be inserted in their neck vein. Makes me flinch just even thinking about the pain you've gone through all because of that free ice cream. Again, really glad you're getting better now

Haha, at the time most of my attention was focused on how painful my abdomen was, so that helped a bit to take my mind off the needle-in-my-neck thing. The process hurt a lot though, even with anesthetic, so I'll gladly not ever get one again if possible.

It was mostly because of a particular kind of medicine that they were going to inject into my to get my blood pressure up, since mine was reaching dangerously low levels, but normal veins are too small and would probably become inflamed, so they had to use a larger vein. It did bring my blood pressure up eventually, but by the time they removed the IV line, my neck was super-stiff from barely turning it for three days. ;;

Yeah, I'm super glad I'm much better too now.
Definitely not worth the pain and trouble and expenses for a simple cone of vanilla ice cream.

We discussed about food safety and sanitation for one whole week back in culinary school. People need to learn about HACCP.

I'd end up not ever eating ice cream again with your experience. Unless I'm in Italy. xD

I'm being against all of it, but at school I eat the mango which probably would not have been washed on the outside, was cut by the canteen man who well, touched the dirty mango on the outside, and mixed them with chilli and pepper and salt, and I put them inside my mouth O_0

What's the difference between gelato and ice cream? Isn't ice cream = galato?

Gelato translated is ice cream in italian BUT gelato is thicker than ice cream. Ice cream is more liquid-y or watery and it also melts faster. Like depending on the temperate, ice cream may already start to melt but gelato is still standing in all its gloriousness.

It's similar to ice cream, but without all the butter and fat in it I think. Sort of like a really fine slushie.
