Pokemon Leaf Green & Fire Red

Do you miss it?

In terms of gameplay, do you miss Leaf Green or Fire Red? If so, what do you miss about it - the old pokemon, the 8-bit setting, the music?

I still have my Fire Red version of pokemon actually (and my gameboy ). I enjoy picking it up and playing it now and again, and so far, I'm just up to date with the Pokemon Platinum and Soul Silver games, but nothing else since then. Although by the looks of it the games really do look like fun. I suppose I just miss the original characters when I'm playing other pokemon nintendo games, but since I still have my cartridge, I suppose their not too far away!

Did you have a favorite?

Did you like one version over the other for some reason - just because?

I believe I preferred Fire Red, but then again it didn't really matter, as I had soon realized they were the same when, for my birthday, I received the two games as a gift.

Do you like the new pokemon games for DS?

What do you like about the new games that aren't the same as in the old Leaf Green and Fire Red versions? Do you like the new pokemon that have been created over the years, or are you finding that things are becoming repetitive and outdated?

The new games give a sense of progression; yet they still have old aspects to them - such as characters and overall scenery/ set up of the game visually. Although in the anime, I'd have to say new pokemon is a relief and greatly depicts the progression of our protagonist, Ash, since he never ages throughout the series.

What games did you never know existed (including hacks, knock-offs, and fan-made)?

As I search through Google, many a times I have found pictures of games that I had no idea had even been made. For example, Pokemon Naranja Version for gameboy advanced. Now I don't know if these are legitimate productions, but it's cool nontheless (in status; not temperature).

Random question...

,but did your parent or gaurdian ever call it pokeman..?

My mom called it Pokeman all the time, I don't know if after a while she just did it to annoy me, but I really think she didn't know the difference for the longest time!

Change... it can be hard, or kick ass..

I was only ever able to play Pokemon on an emulator. I could never manage to find it and if I did I was always broke :(
I enjoy them all (That I've played) though. Every game has pokemon I like and hate.

As for favorite... any game that lets me have my little adorable-squad XD
Dratini - Cubone - Ponyta - Seahorse - <Flying type> - <Starter>

I do miss the days when Pokemon was all the rage. :P
I was in elementary school and probably the only one who even knew about it. I found out about it when I was 7, and took a visit to Japan to visit mom's friend, and her daughter had a Pikachu toy that I really liked, and we watched it on TV(the Farfetch'D episode). So when we got back to America, I would always wonder when/if they'd show it on TV here. I'd even bring my stuffed Pikachu I got from Japan everywhere; shopping, vacations, and school, even though I was in 3rd-4th grade(it's not normal to bring stuffed toys to school at that age, is it?). Nobody made fun of me for it, though. I think everyone was equally interested in the Pikachu. @[email protected]

I think Jigglypuff is probably my favorite of the original Pokemon. Actually still is my favorite even with the new ones.

My first game was Blue version, though it technically was my brother's. I think my favorite of all of the games would have to be Ruby/Sapphire, though. I loved Hoenn, and the graphics/music were so much prettier than the previous games.

There's lots of spin off and side games that I never really looked into, though if I had the extra money I'd probably try them.
Of the side games, I'd say Hey You Pikachu was my favorite. The pikachu in it is just too adorable.

I also remember many adults would call it "Pokey man", it never really annoyed me, but it was just funny/weird. xD
My parents never did, though. Probably because my parents both know Japanese pronunciation.

I got exposed to pokemon in Elementary school too... but it was mostly the cards for a while. Eventually I ended up just collecting them for a while because I sorta learned the game was rather rigged...

Ah, I never got into the cards, though I still had some.
More-so I liked them for the looks, though. Same reason I collected Sailor Moon cards as a kid.

Same. I think most of mine weren't actually the "Trading Card Game" series, but rather those gachapon cards in Japan, that were more like pretty shiny pictures on each card. XD

I always liked the games much more than the anime; whenever I watched any episode of said show, I always thought it was, well... formulaic. I mean, it's basically the same thing, every episode: Ash is traveling/going to get another badge, Team Rocket has yet ANOTHER plan to steal Ash's Pikachu*/other Pokemon, conflict, Team Rocket loses, roll credits. Even if I were much younger, I still would have thought the anime was stupid.

I don't think there's MUCH difference between generations, really(meaning GB/GBA/DS), except in graphics. The game play and control scheme are basically the same. I'm waiting to see what Pokemon X and Y bring to the scene.

(* and seriously -- the only reason Team Rocket was after Ash's Pikachu was because it wouldn't go into a Pokeball? That's an incredibly stupid reason.)

(EDIT: for the record, I have owned FireRed, Emerald, and... Pearl? And I currently own Black, Black v2, and HeartGold.)

I do prefer the older generations to the newer ones.
Partially due to nostalgia reasons, but also because I feel as though the newer ones just don't have that special something earlier generations had.
I own and have beaten Red, Yellow, Silver, Ruby, Emerald, Fire Red, Diamond, Soul Silver and Pokemon Stadium.
First and second gen are my 2 favourites, with 2nd being slightly ahead. Silver and years later, Soul Silver are my favourites of all the ones I've played. I love the traveling regions and the day/night cycle. It just adds so much more to the game.
I hope that one day there will be a pokemon game where you travel to all the regions.

I have yet to play Black or White. I don't even have a 3DS yet.

The Black and White games are for regular DS; It's Pokemon X and Y that are going to be 3DS-exclusive.

I like the new features they bring with new games, but I'm only sick of the grinding that's required for all of your Pokemon to be strong enough to defeat gyms and such.
I have Black and White(one in English and one in Japanese), but haven't beat any. They have a much more futuristic feel than the past games. I do like how the camera view changes in some cities/places. You can tell that it's probably all in 3D cel-shaded when you play it.

Oh, they still are pixelated Pokemon. The characters and Pokemon are still in sprite format. XD
I remember making custom ones myself a few months ago too. It's fun to do but also can strain the eyes, even if zoomed in at max.
I also remember making custom sprites for the game called Ragnarok Online. Mainly hair.

I got an email from a RO private server I hadn't played on in YEARS recently. I was all "lolwut"?

But yeah. I'm thinking about scavenging whatever I can from my copy of HeartGold and starting anew. Or beating Ash/Satoshi/whatever the heck his name is in the games first, and then doing the scavenging thing.

Of the first three games, I've only played Red and Yellow - Red because it was all the big kids would allow me to touch and Yellow because I was eventually able to go back and play it long, long after it came out (as in, Pokemon was already available for the GBA). So, just going on about those, Yellow pretty much blew my mind, but Red had my first team.

Anyway, because of my history, I prefer Fire Red to Leaf Green. I went ahead and mimicked my old team and such in that game and, because I didn't know the difference between the male and female signs, I mistakenly gave my female charmander a male name. I wish there had been an "Electric Yellow" or something along those lines. I'd have been all on that. Actually, I'd still be all on that.

As for the DS games... I never tire of Pokemon. The gameplay really hasn't changed, but it's always fun to explore the new regions and to see how everything evolves. Toss in Nuzlockes and other challenges, and Pokemon is nonstop entertainment.

On another note entirely, sometimes I make a point of pluralizing "Pokemon" as "Pokemen" in front of fans. My parents just call everything Pikachu.

Pokemon Yellow was my favorite, until Fire Red came out. And then Platinum, and then Black and White 2. :P

My favorite are Pikachu - Charizard - Emolga - Mew

I started with Red and Blue, which is why I laughed when I saw "FireRed" and "LeafGreen" images in a topic called "classic Pokemon".

I probably clocked fifty or sixty hours in both, then got Gold version and put a hundred hours into it. I started losing interest with R/S and really started losing interest when they remade Red/Blue into FireRed and LeafGreen. The last one I beat was HeartGold for the nostalgia and having Pokemon follow the player sprite.

Also, having played the modern titles, I don't see how anyone could "miss" old Pokemon gameplay - it's known for being the one series that, except marginal graphical upgrades, doesn't change much at all. The core gameplay mechanics have remained the same since the original Japanese Green and Red versions in '96.

The art style and music is another story - the music and graphics of the Gameboy/Gameboy Color generations have such a different tone, probably due to data and hardware constraints. Part of the reason I grew out of Pokemon after gen 3 was because of the art style and music - some may like it, but it just wasn't the same for me.
