Yah. I might. I have a story I've wanted to flesh out for the longest time. I just need to write out a character map or something.

It's a story about second chances at life and the consequences that follow that. It's a fantasy with a main character from our world who has a choice to stay behind where she is sick or to go somewhere new and live.

that sounds really neat! I can see some really good moral conclusions being part of that. Just...yeah, I like it.

Yah. Turns out to be a tricksy situation and she tries her best to get back and face her reality. She's given this choice by a seemingly benign figure, who manipulates her for her own gain. I know it's all pretty vague sounding now. But I've got 2 chapters written and I just put it down for later poking.

It doesn't sound too vague. It sounds like the kind of story that a lot of people would like to read.

Well vague in how I described it. I have some interesting characters in it, but I need more. So far, most of the action revolves around four characters for the most part. I need some more secondary and tertiary characters.

it would be vague if I didn't understand or have a picture of the sort of story it is. I have a good sense of things already, so not vague! four sounds like plenty to me. I usually don't give many more than that and usually only have two mains.

Yes. That's true. I have the main character, and her companion on one side, then her sister in the real world. But she pops in only every few chapters, as she realizes that the thing left in her sister's stead isn't really her.

It actually helps writing about it. Makes me want to continue.

I'm interested. You should write and publish it so I can read the story.

Self published... But published. I know two who self published now. And no? No teachers? I had two professors that wrote fiction and were published. Others who just did non fiction, but still, had work out there.
My friend's book is on amazon cheap for the nook/digital download.
Here's a book/hard copy version doop doop
and here's the amazon doooop dop dop
I read it twice as a beta reader. Once a year ago, then again a month or so ago so I could give the final copy reviews on amazon and good reads, etc.
---------- Post added 11-07-2013 at 12:42 AM ----------
I'm gonna get a copy this weekend though, cause I want one that's not digital. ;D

well, you're not allowed to teach at my school if you're not actively creating work in your career field. All of my teachers are publishing and showing their art. It's kinda different when it's that way...
ah cool. Thanks for the link.

That's the way with a lot of schools now a days.
Np. It's a nice YA book. I knew the story of Tam Lin, which is what it's based off, so I appreciated the remade fairytale/folk legend.

Is it? It wasn't like that at the other school I went to.
I'm into fairytales and myths now because of the class I'm in.

I guess it was like that at UVM. Maybe because it was a larger state university.
I'm jealous of your class then! Gah faerytales are my favorite.

I wouldn't think there would be considering less of it at a state school though. There is a tenure system there and other things that determine teachers. My school doesn't have any of that.
what's up, Kirin?

Tenure isn't as easy as it looks. I know a lot of my brilliant professors were trying to go on that track and getting snubbed over others. But yah, before that they're at least kinda expected to publish a bit. I know in the English department and History department, there is that case full of books from current professors who are published at my alma mater.

one of my teachers had to limit herself to two classes one semester so she could work on publishing her new book. She's the non-fic tract and intro class teacher. There's a poster in the hall titled "Meet the Faculty" and it's designed with the picture, small bio, and larger picture of their most recent published book.

Nice! Yah. I bet it's hard juggling teaching classes and writing. I can't even do one at a time. ;)
I found my Advanced Writing professor's novel in Barnes and Noble one day. That was pretty cool.

same same. I wanted to publish before I graduated, but I only got published so far in an amateur magazine that didn't pay me.
that does sound neat. I think I will know many names to follow in the future in many genres. Fellow students and teachers alike. A guy I know got a minor acting role in a new ABC(I think?) crime drama show that hasn't started airing yet. I will try to watch the show and find him.

That's still nice being published in a magazine. I was too once. :) Nothing special, but it's still cool to see your work out there. I had one Professor who said he'd help me out if I had questions and blah dee blah if I wanted to publish a story I was working on. But he's a bit flaky and all over the place since he also is in a public office in Vermont.
Wow! It's pretty awesome when stuff like that happens.I saw a guy in my high school as a reoccurring extra in Ugly Betty and I was confused (cause I wasn't sure it was him till I messaged him about it).
