Design a Character

Hello, I'm Mythos and I'm glad you made it here to my contest thread.

I'm not sure if you've heard yet, but in case you haven't I am planning on making a Menewsha web comic (it's a labor of love on my part and not an official comic) and while I've received some really great feedback in the Community Discussion forum I would really like it if I could have your input to make sure this is something you can enjoy as well. In this instance it's something quite specific!

One suggestion (and one that I really liked) was the idea of using clothes that are already in the Mene system for each of the character designs-- or something of a similar look at least-- but to be honest I simply do not have the spread of items in my inventory to be able to create several unique looking character designs based off of all of these items (nor the time to piece them together each item at a time through the marketplace/shops preview)! This is where I could really use your help and input and most importantly your creativity!

The winning selection will be used as character design for the comic & credit will be given to you for your contribution on the credits page.

(* 2 days after I turn in my dissertation. I'd be crazy to start working on the comics before that!!)

Contest Directions

I am looking for character designs (using avatars) for 8 separate characters (both male and female) as well as character names. Their personalities and hair styles are already defined, but you get to choose everything about their appearance beyond that!

Each of the 'main characters' for the comic are based off of blown out of proportion stereotypes of the main user types throughout Mene. Not featured are special characters or character types (NPCs, User-made NPCs, Moderators, "Pixel Pixies", etc.).

One thing I would ask is that you don't over complicate the designs too much. These will need to be drawn over and over in the comic so even if it is an EPIC avatar if I don't feel as if I could use the design nicely in the comic then it won't have a high chance of being picked. Also: It should go without saying that backgrounds/settings do not really matter for this contest and they will not be a part of the consideration process so don't worry about those! I just want to be able to see what your design is wearing! : )

Art Forums Personality:

• Very friendly and outgoing
• Lives in her own world
• Moments of genius

Avatar Chat Personality:

• Shopaholic and very excitable
• Hyperactive and very animated gossip
• Overall she fun but a little fussy.

** Any Hair Style option is available for ACP as her look will change over time.

Community Discussion Personality:

• Very caring and a good listener
• Good 'Team leader' type
• Has odd quirks... (for instance: she's in league with Birthday Cake Hat Girl.)

Discussion Personality:

• Refined and mature elven gentleman
• Affinity and knowledgeable in many studies/disciplines
• Not warm to new people right away, but a good friend overall

Fresh Meat Personality:

• Cannot keep his mouth shut
• Hyperactive and full of questions
• Good spirited despite overall derpishness

** Please note that this is not based off of the opinion of ALL new members, just the few exceedingly spamy ones who appear from time to time.


Literature Personality:

• Handsome romantic sort, day dreaming and wistful
• Quite a flirt and easily melodramatic
• "Vicktoria Valentine's soul mate"... at least he feels that way

Nations Personality:

• Hyper to lethargic to spooky in ten seconds flat... if so moved
• Epitome of the randomness that occurs on Mene from day-to-day
• Fluctuates between extreme concern and apathy. Fickle.

** Please remember to make an outfit that someone with this sort of personality would wear rather than just a terrifying and bizarre mix of chaos!


Role play Personality:

• Very shy and like a little brother to everyone
• Extremely adventurous and resourceful
• Gentle, quiet and wise

I'm really sorry that this took so long to get out to you all! I've had these for a while but I wanted to make some shiny concept work for each before I announced it... I just haven't been able to nail down the exact style rules I want to use during that time SO! Here's the results!

I am kinda paranoia that this contest would attract more attention over at Avatar Chat. Since the focus is on dressing up the character... sounds like a job for Avatar Chat.

yeah, it is. iku put it in there since I made fun of the pickle I knew it was him once it mysteriously popped up in it

It kind of fits into both... but I think you're right, Xu. Avatar Chat gets a lot more traffic, at least.
