So I'm a big fan of the Persona / Shin Megami Tensei series from the SNES and Playstation 1 era. A few years back Aeria games had the MMORPG Shin Megami Tensei Imagine and I played it for a year before my cat destroyed my laptop.
With my new laptop I went to look for the game and Aeria games no longer had it. Then I found a company Marvelous which is the new Atlas Online bought the rights to the game and now they offer the game. So yay now I'm playing it and I'm like a kid in a candy store!! It has the same basics as the old Shin Megami Tensei games where you fight demons and ally yourself with them. You can also use your ally demons to make new ones.
This game you can be any type of hero there is no class restriction. Right now I am working to be a Gunner with magic bullet so I used guns and magic at the same time.
You can be a healer but that's a little rough to solo and lvl up early on. Mele is quite basic just use swords to hack and slash your way through demons, but Gunners you can do long rage with guns and also you can work up your magic to do elemental long range.
So in this game you have to get demon allies, work as demon buster doing various jobs, strategy on how you want to fight, you raise your skills by using them not by leveling up. Leveling up only effects your stats not skills. Your demons level up and can learn new skills. Your demons also will give you quests if they like you. If they don't like you they won't work for you so watch out on how you treat them~!
I've noticed that it's easy to make friends in the game. First day I came back I was doing a dungeon run, power went out. When I logged back on I found myself dead in the lobby of the dungeon and a random person came up, healed me, and took me for 3 advanced dungeon runs to lvl me up and all I had to do was say back I also got money out of it too~
My in game name is Epita. I'm still only on act 3 where I have to raise my Etherys (Can't remember how to spell it right) so it can help me fight off an electric weak demon swarm.

I'm so glad you posted about this. I don't have Playstation so the only game in this series I've been bale to play is Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked for the 3DS. So now I'm off to go play this game.

Oh you will absolutely enjoy it~ The community is the nicest in any game I have ever played! An older member on there that has become a friend of mine just told me that when he was trying to make the demon Odin another member came around and payed for the demon creation in full!!
Then I had a person buy all 500 curse stones so I can lvl my curse magic to become a Magic Bullet gunner. Another person bought me some armor. Then a group lvled me to lvl 20 in one day.... I don't even ask for anything it just happens lol! It's a nice change of pace from where other MMORPGs the older members treat newbies like garbage.

I wasn't much a fan of gunners. I found support to be the most fun, though almost the whole thing was a non-stop grind.

It went from Aeria to Atlas Online which has recently been taken over by Marvelous. The game is still going on strong and I have fun in it. Though this past week and weekend I've been too busy to come online for either here or on SMTI.
I did go on lunch break and finish my lvling up the skill curse magic to become a Magic Bullet gunner~ The rest is hard though lol! The curse magic all you have to do is keep cursing newbie slimes in Virtual Battle. So easy but it takes a while.

VB slimes are easy they have no chance at attacking you! Tomorrow I need to go into the dungeons and work on my shooting, though that takes up loads of money that's why I can't do it in VB. I need to make as much money as I loose so I can keep restocking my bullets.

Ah yeah... but I find that pixies don't really do damage
You lose money in bullet training?

Yes because you use a bullet every time you shoot. So that takes up money to buy bullets. 500 bullet pack costs 1,000 in game currency. You use about 1 pack per dungeon run.

I don't like to ask for help in a game. Anyway I get enough help from my clan and this guy who has a big crush on me O.o! I don't ask they just give! I'm used to lone wolfing games and just making a few friends if that. In this game if you have a newbie title on you are lauded with gifts! I'm used to being pked or treated like trash by the more experienced players in a game. This is the complete opposite!

It's the people who don't like to ask that are most deserving.
Ah yeah I don't think you can pk in megaten?

No you can't pk in the game. Also not many like to do the pvp. People come to the game for the story line and team play not for the pvp. Which is rare for a MMORPG. Most people just go to the pvp to trash talk other players lol!

Yeah, I like when a game lets you decide your own path too though. Unfortunately every game has a severely strict storyline...

True but some how SMTI has such a good story line and fun game play it doesn't really matter much. Also you can affect your own story by what side you choose. At least I think that's right. I haven't figured out if I want to be Law or Chaos.

I remember giving that game a shot a few years back and finding that no one talked, it was a grind fest, and the movement was painfully slow. I wonder if it's changed any...

I decided to make a MB/Enhancer.
@ Seri - They've always been somewhat talkative. Grindfest yeah... it sorta is but having people to talk to in a good guild or something helps...

At first it's quiet not much talk on main channel which I find good~! There are no spam bots so the screen isn't always filled up with chat~ You enter the first dungeon lobby and join up in group dungeon runs you'll get friends fast! Some times people will get you if you just stand in training hall, snakeman npc, or outside of town or near the exit. Quite easy to get friends~
Poet what is your character's name? Maybe I'll see ya in there some time! Mine is Epita. I frequent in Home III right now with all my quests.

same as on mene. Thewanderingpoet :)
Friends is something I never made many of on megaten. I think I had 3, but unfortunately I lost connection with them all.
I'm just working on getting my angel worked up... since the angel I want is the Lucky Angel and I can't get that until level 68 or so.
Any idea where I would master a Death based skill? I want to make sure it's inherited.

That's fine. I used to do that, if you want help creating something just lemme know. I actually am in the process of turning my Garm from snakeman into an angel through merging it and a pixie into a harpie and then a harpy into a pixie for an angel.
What level are you?
