At first, I scored, at max, like 300 points. Woohoo.
Second time, however, I got nothing.
Am I really that bad or is it really that hard for beginners?

It takes a formula to get good at it. You need to estimate your lag time and find where the 'fish's mouth' is. Each fish is different so it's just trial and error. Don't give up!
