Do you expect me to talk? No Mr. Bond... expect you to laugh... hysterically...

*giggles* Well, that's still preferrable to dying, so I suppose it works out at least a little bit more nicely for Mr. Bond.
I prefer a quieter approach to happiness. Perhaps more of a smile and peace of mind kind of happiness and not a raving, hysterical, pseudo-insane kind of a laughing happiness with total abandon.

I dunno... watching a hysterically laughing person run down the street sure puts a smile on my face...

My state is full of an interesting mix of WASPs, aged hippies, liberal yuppies, and towns known for their LGBT populations, like Northampton (highest number of lesbians per capita of any city in North America) and Provincetown (umm... just look it up, you'll see what I mean). So it's kind of this clash of New England "old money" and pretty much everyone they hate.

It's the acronym for a "white Anglo-Saxon Protestant", a less-than-nice way of referring to the affluent white people of the region.

They are some of the rudest people because they can be really self-entitled. I mean, like pathologically so, it's pretty terrible.
By the way, single people like me read books and drink coffee. Or, like this morning, throw up repeatedly because something is wrong with my stomach. >.< (Might have been the Chinese food.)

Ah... self entitled... that's sort of the problem with rude people around the world isn't it?
Also thanks for the answer ^^
I'll pass on the last one...

I used to work as a cashier and I worked Customer Service for five years for a company. I was treated like sh t. Not only by some of the customers, but by management and the company itself. I go in that store sometimes, only to give the people who were terrible to me a hard time. I'm the customer now, b tch.
[Please excuse my language, that tore at me for a long time.]
[Believe me, there were some wonderful customers, but I always ended up getting everybody's life story. I really didn't want to spend the two to five minutes scanning your order, listening about your cat.]
[I will replace the "i's" with angry smilies. There, no cursing. :D]

I think I am one of those people that oddly ignores them. I just don't want to be talking because I'm self-conscious. If they do speak up I do answer back in a very awkward manner. I'm just not confident in myself guys! I do respond back in a nice manner though.

On top of that, anywhere I see a customer that "I know," they approach me like, "Heeeyyyyyy! Good to see you!" or "You're at the wrong side, I'm used to you behind the counter!"
Wth, rude [at the latter]. I don't really want to talk to you. I dislike being recognised in public.

Not sure. If they're being very monotone, I just give a simple, "thank you" and put my money away and leave. But if they tell me to have a nice day/evening, I tell them "you too!" with a smile. I try and mirror people's moods when it comes to being waited on or whatever. I have respect for people who have to deal with all kinds of different-mood people all day. If they don't even tell me to have a nice day/evening or even give a smile, I'll just ignore them.

I've worked retail for about 6 years now and where ever i go i am really friendly. i make eye contact and smile at whatever they say. this is very difficult for me since i am really shy D: but i try to make the cashier feel important and special.
i love when customers were sweet to me and try to make small talk.

I worked in customer service once. It was AWFUL. People were so RUDE, I just...couldn't believe it. Even people I otherwise considered friends - it's horrible what people do when given any sort of power over another person.
I swore to always try to be nice to customer service workers from there. Even if they fucked up. Because even if they do something wrong...no one deserves to be bullied at work over it. Everyone makes mistakes. I'd prefer to let it go, or at least be polite about it if that's not possible, because if it's happened more than once - and it probably has because they ARE human - they've probably caught enough crap about it to last a lifetime.

I feel it has more to do with you having worked in customer service previously. It's like anyone that has been in the food industry, or in the serving position; you just happen to know what servers do and don't like about customers and seek to avoid it.
I wouldn't say I'm mean, but I don't go out of my way to have a conversation with someone at the checkout.

I'm always friendly to the person behind the counter. Like I will have a full random conversation with them-and its fun.
Once you work in retail you understand how those little convos can help break up the monotany .
I have hadmy parents think that I was flirting with the counter attendants in the past, but really it never hurts to be chipper. =)

I'm nice to them unless they're trying to argue with me over something. Usually if they're being mean to me I try to scurry away because I figure they're not being nice because their boss is on their tail or because they really hate their job. Otherwise, I try to look friendly and be warm and strike up a little conversation unless it messes up their concentration. My mom has crazy stories about the people who end up in her checkout line at work...and some of those people really should try being a cashier for a day.
