Sherlock made a bit of a face and didn't grace that with a reply.

"Given the state of your job when last we spoke, it comes as no surprise that you moved with your flatmate," he said instead.

"I thought I'd see if I have better luck in England for a while," Elena said, her voice still a bit frosty.

John was watching them, half wondering if they were going to try to kill each other.

"I see," Sherlock said. He studied her for a moment. "A reasonable assumption."

Elena raised an eyebrow at him, clearly trying to decide if he was going to play nice or not.

John clapped his hands together. "So! Have you two eaten? We should all get food, maybe see a movie."

Sherlock's gaze jumped to John at the noise.

"I'm fine," he said habitually.

"Food sounds great," Abby said, nodding, "let's go. Elena?" She looked at her friend.

"You haven't eaten since last night, you're coming," John said to Sherlock in his "I take no shit" voice.

"I guess," Elena said after a moment. She wasn't thrilled to be going with Sherlock but John was nice enough and made Abby happy, so that was good enough.

Sherlock pulled a bit of a face, but didn't argue. He knew when resistance was futile.

Abby picked up her purse again and followed John.

After making sure Sherlock was indeed coming and was properly dressed, John headed for a good place he knew, keeping pace with Abby.

"So, I guess we should think of some more dates."

"I guess so," Abby said. She smiled a bit. "Really, I won't mind going anywhere you pick. You probably know all the best places around here."

John grinned. "Well, there's always a movie," he said, half-teasing.

Abby grinned.

"The default date," she teased. "Sounds like a plan to me."

"If those two don't kill each other at dinner, anyway," John said, glancing back at Sherlock and Elena.

"I wish we could lock them in a closet together and be done with it, but she's more likely to kill him that way," Abby agreed.

"Agreed." John sighed. "They're both too stubborn. Maybe if we give them a few days to simmer down they'll get better."

John nodded and pulled open the door to the restaurant for her, ushering her inside. He did make sure they had a table for four, though. It was best not to leave those two on their own.

The table for four was a good idea, although Abby didn't try to put herself between Elena and Sherlock. Best to let the two start to talk, at least. Or ignore each other civilly.

Elena decided on civilly ignoring him, sitting next to Abby and settling in for dinner. She'd be glad when she adjusted to the time difference fully.

Abby settled in next to John, chatting absently about the trip and the new flat any everything.

Sherlock just sat there, a bit bored, and looked around at the other people. He could hear some whispers starting up as people recognized them, but he ignored them.

Elena quickly got bored with the chatting and, once their food arrived, started to flick peas at Sherlock. It was mostly just for fun, until she actually hit him right between the eyes with one.

Sherlock jumped a bit when one hit him in the face, and he turned to look at her incredulously.

"Are you flicking peas at me?" he asked.

"Why would I do something like that?" Elena asked, raising her eyebrows at him and adopting the most innocent expression she could muster.

"Several reasons, I suspect," Sherlock said. "I have it on reliable authority that most people hear 'punch me in the face' when I speak, although I can't imagine why."

"Oh, no, I have no idea," Elena said, so much sarcasm in her voice that even he couldn't miss it.

John heard that comment and choked on his drink for a moment.

Sherlock ignored John for the moment.

"So why in the world are you throwing peas at me?" he asked her.
