John nodded and got their food boxed up to go, carrying the bag as he headed towards where Sherlock had said he was. He managed to get past the police cordon and then texted Sherlock again.

Which floor?

5. Sherlock could see John out the window and waited for him.

Abby followed, but she was stopped at the cordon. Even though she was with John, she wasn't allowed past.

John hesitated for a few moments before he had an idea.

"Wait here, I'll get a detective to let you in," he told Abby before heading inside to find Sherlock and find someone to convince to let Abby in too. Because he didn't want to just leave her standing out there.

Sherlock barely glanced over when John came in.

"What took you so long?" he asked.

"Had to help Abby in, not that you'd notice," John said with a little snort, making sure Abby was still with him.

"And now it's practically a party," Elena said from her office.

"Well, hurry up, I need you to talk some sense into these officers," Sherlock said. "They don't seem to grasp the fact that I do, in fact, know what I'm doing."

Abby went over to Elena.

"So what's going on?" she asked curiously.

"One of my coworkers was murdered," Elena said with a little shrug. "I'm being held for questioning, no charges."

John sighed and pulled out the badge Lestrade had shoved on him before he'd left, going over to the nearest officer and showing him the badge and talking things out.

Abby blinked.

"Oh great," she said, with just a touch of sarcasm.

Sherlock looked at the badge curiously.

"Wait a moment," he said, "where did you get that? Where is mine? I should get one too."

"Yeah," Elena said with a sigh. "Just peachy." She shook her head a bit.

"Lestrade gave it to me," John said with a bit of a grin. "Yours is a Christmas present this year if you don't piss off Lestrade too much."

Sherlock made a face. Not annoying Lestrade was nigh on impossible. They annoyed each other.

John just smirked and nodded to Sherlock when they got permission to view the scene and the body.

Once Sherlock was on the scene, he was able to do what he did best.

'Age between 40 and 50, recently divorced... One dog, large breed... No girlfriend, but in a relationship...' He glanced at John. "Ask them if this man's ex-wife has been here today." Because he was sure it was a jilted-lover situation, and the pale strip on the dead man's ring finger indicated a recent divorce.

"Yes, before lunch," Elena replied before John could find anyone else to ask. She stayed outside the room, but she did listen with interest. "She left quietly, for once."

"Have the officers find her and question her," Sherlock said. "She's the one who did it."

"That would be difficult," Elena said mildly, "considering she's currently on a train, and has been since an hour and a half ago. Well before the murder was actually committed."

"Well I highly doubt the murderer is the deceased's gentleman-friend, so are you quite sure?" Sherlock shot back. "Are there any witnesses? Paper trails can be falsified, I've seen it before, so is it not possible that she bought a ticket, then came here to commit the crime, and traded in the ticket for a later train afterwards?" He looked at John in a 'make them see sense' way.

Elena sighed. "Mr. Holmes, I happen to know she's on a train and has been for a while because she's taking her son out of town for a few days. I've babysat for her son several times when he was younger, so I texted him as soon as I saw his father was dead to make sure his mother was where she said she was. She has a solid alibi."

"I'm not wrong," Sherlock said. "Perhaps a hired hand, but the result is the same."

"Maybe," Elena allowed. Then she shrugged. "Wouldn't put it past his sister, though I haven't seen her for years."

"A sister?" Now that was intriguing. Sherlock calculated the possibility. Perhaps not a jilted lover, but just a woman scorned. He was still sure the ex-wife had something to do with it, though.

"I might still have her contact information," Elena said, moving over into her office and bringing up the info on her computer. She printed out two copies and handed one to Sherlock.

John sighed and walked over to Abby again.

"Well, not much more I can do here," he said. "Shall we go finish our lunch and get some drinks?"

"You sure you're not still needed here?" Abby asked. "Running interference between Sherlock and the police?"

"No, I already talked to the detective, he'll be fine on his own for now," John said. "He's in one of his moods." He grinned. "Elena is good for his ego."
