"Joseph is the last piece of the puzzle, I suspect," Sherlock said. "The rest of the pieces are present and merely require being put in the correct order."

"Well, then, you'll have to get on a plane to interrogate him," Elena said. "He's on vacation, remember? In Washington state. For the next week."

Sherlock gave her a strange look.

"You lot let someone stay on holiday when they're a person of interest in a murder?" he asked. "What sort of backward system do you Americans use?"

"Well, considering the murder was only hours ago and no one but me has his personal contact information," Elena said, giving him a bit of a Look. "Besides, he's clearly not a person of interest in the case because he's not even in the correct state to have committed the murder, according to the police."

"He's a person of interest now," Sherlock pointed out shortly. "Considering the new information that needs cross-examination."

Elena pulled off the road, looking over at him. "Mr. Holmes, just because you happen to be right in this case does not give you the right to go ordering everyone else around for your own personal satisfaction," she said shortly, her eyes narrowing. "You don't care about the people, you don't care about the murder, you just care about solving it to solve it. You can do that, but if you do, I think you'll find the American police much more resistant to your way of doing things. Especially if you continue to order them around like I heard earlier."

"I wouldn't have to order them around if they would listen to me in the first place," Sherlock said stubbornly.

"Yes, but you're not always right. You don't know everything," Elena pressed. "You were wrong about his ex-wife being involved in the murder. Stop acting like god and start acting like a grown man."

Sherlock didn't grace that with an answer, instead turning to stare out the window.

Elena glowered at him for a moment before she huffed and continued driving back towards his hotel, stopping in front of it.

Sherlock got out of the car without a word and went into the hotel. He was absolutely not having a temper tantrum, thank you. Only children had temper tantrums. He was just going to wait for John to bloody get back already so they could keep working on the case.

Elena drove herself home without a word, turning on loud music. John deserved a goddamn award for putting up with Sherlock for so long.

Sherlock ended up just pacing in the hotel room, unable to just sit still and watch the telly. John needed to get back already.

John didn't get back until his date was over, and then he paused when he saw Sherlock pacing. That wasn't a good sign.

"What happened?" he asked as he walked over.

"That--woman is insufferable," Sherlock snarled as he kept pacing.

It took John a few minutes to figure out to whom Sherlock was referring, since he rarely spoke like that. Then the metaphorical lightbulb went off and he grinned. "Did Elena tell you off or something?"

Sherlock just gave a wordless growl and kept pacing.

John chuckled and settled down to watch Sherlock pace for a bit, knowing he'd explode when he needed to.

"I want to go back to London," he said abruptly. "At least Lestrade listens to me."

"This wouldn't have happened if you hadn't gotten yourself involved," John said, still watching him.

Sherlock gave John a Look.

"Honestly, John, when have you ever known me to pass up a challenge?" he asked. "I was bored."

"Oh, I know," John said mildly. "I'm not surprised you did. I'm just saying, this is what happens when you meddle away from home."

"We wouldn't be away from home if not for this bloody forced holiday," Sherlock grumbled.

"Sherlock, you were losing weight," John pointed out. "You needed to get away for a while so you could focus on things like eating and not passing out."

"Well, it's certainly not my fault Lestrade tripped over a corpse at two in the morning," Sherlock retorted. "At least he had the sense to call me."
