Cain ate in silence for a little while, but then he started to notice just how silent it was. He looked up Kirin, a puzzled expression on his face. Kirin looked distant, memories kind of distant. Cain watched him for a while, then held a piece of fruit out to the other man. "Aren't you going to eat something to?" he asked. It occurred to him, that it would feel more comfortable if they ate together.

"Of course." Kirin said shaking off the memories that had been flooding his mind. He took the offered fruit and sat on the other side of the table from Cain. He bit into the fruit still a bit lost in thought. It had been a long time since he had thought this deeply about Michael.

The silence hadn't dissipated much to Cain's annoyance, though he was glad that Kirin had at least sat down. He paused in his eating again and decided to ask another question. "So what will my duties as your assistant be?" he asked. It was something he had been wanting to know for a great many minutes now, but he hadn't figured out if it was a good idea to ask until now.

"You will run errands for me, for the most part. I might have you take letters. Deliver stuff. Things like that." Kirin said smiling at him. "I'm sorry I should have told you sooner about your duties. Forgive me for my lapse." He grabbed another piece of fruit to eat.

Cain nodded slowly. That sounded easy enough. It wasn't really much for punishment though considering the alternative had been life in prison. He should have been happy about that, but honestly he was just confused. "Is that really all you want out of me?" he asked finally.

Kirin did want more out of him, but it wouldn't be fair to either himself or Cain if he were to ask it of him. Kirin knew if they did do it it wouldn't be the same as what he and Michael had had. "Yes." He said simply. He kept having to remind himself that Cain wasn't Michael, though Kirin couldn't help but feel that maybe, just maybe, Michael had been reborn and was sitting in this room with him.

Cain had the feeling that Kirin wasn't being totally straight with him. He just frowned though and didn't press the issue. "I see. Then I'll be happy to serve," was all he said, though he had to force out the word happy. He would put a smile on his face and pretend to be happy, but he doubted he would ever really like it here. He went back to eating in silence until there was no more food to be eaten.

"When you are finished I will give you a tour of the castle so you can learn where things are." He said. He didn't want Cain getting lost. "If you will excuse me for a moment." He said standing. He quickly moved into the bathroom. His emotions were dangerously close to the surface. He rubbed the bridge of his nose. "He's not Michael." He said out loud. Just thinking it wasn't doing him any good.

Cain nodded and watched Kirin curiously as he walked away. He buried his head in his arms as he curled over the table. He needed to think. This day had already gone though so much and his emotions felt out of whack. He didn't know how he should be feeling right now, but he knew that he had watched Kirin like he couldn't look away when he left. This was so unlike him. He wasn't the sort to get interested in people, in fact, he loved his loner life. So why was he getting interesting in this strange person now. "What's wrong with me?" he muttered to himself as he waited for Kirin to come back.

Kirin came back out a few moments later. He seemed a bit more composed then he had been moments before hand. He just watched Cain for a moment. He wanted to reach out and touch him, to run his fingers through Cain's hair. He made a fist, his long nails biting into the skin on his hands. No he couldn't let himself do that. "Are you ready for a tour?" He asked after composing himself.

Cain jerked, sitting up to look at Kirin. He hadn't heard him come back into the room. He quickly smoothed his expression into a faint smile to hide the fact that he had been startled. He was glad that he wasn't left alone with his thoughts anymore though. "Yes of course. Lead the way," he said as he stood up. After running a hand through his hair to fix its slight mussed up state, he smiled at Kirin.

Kirin's breath caught as Cain smiled. It was like looking into the past and seeing a young Michael again. He can't keep the shock off his face. It was uncanny, so uncanny. He shook his head. "Follow me," He said as he headed out of the room.

The shock on Kirin's face surprised Cain, but he couldn't think of anything to say about it. He simply stored the information away for another time when it might make more sense. If he stayed around long enough, he was sure that he would get to know the other man very well. "Is this going to be the sort of tour I learn you live somewhere huge and easy to get lost in?" he asked since he couldn't think of anything else to say as he followed Kirin out of the room.

"Most likely." Kirin said with a chuckle. "Though I will try to take you the most direct routes to the places you will need to know." He said with a smile. "Though I am thinking a main tour first. Specific routes after." He headed up the hall. "I have been thinking on your sleeping arrangements." Kirin said as they walked.

"You don't have to worry much though. I've been traveling all of my life. I don't exactly get lost easily," Cain said, already working on burning the arrangement of the halls into his memory. He paid more attention to his surroundings than the conversation, but his eyes widened when Kirin mentioned sleeping arrangements. He looked over at the other man, biting on his lower lip. This was the moment that had the potential to get weird. "Do you have anything in mind?" he asked finally.

"There is an extra bedroom in my quarters, which you are welcome to if you would like." He said. He had registered the look on Cain's face when he had mentioned sleeping arrangements. "Or if you are more comfortable I am sure there is room for you in the servants quarters. I just want you to be comfortable."

Cain pondered his options as he walked. He kept his attention on his surroundings, rather than on Kirin since he didn't want the other man to see the nervousness on his face. He decided that he would trust Kirin for now and looked over at him finally. "The extra bedroom sounds fine. I'm sure that will be quite...comfortable," he said. He just hoped that he wouldn't regret that. "So where are we headed right now?"

"We are headed to the kitchens." He said as they continued to walk. He was rather glad Cain had chosen the extra bedroom. "Sometimes you might have to remind me to eat." He said as they entered the kitchens. The workers all paused what they were doing and bowed to him. He smiled and gave a nod of his head.

Cain tilted his head curiously. "You can't remember to eat yourself?" he asked, trying not to sound insulting, but he thought it was a pretty silly fact. It seemed like something a spoiled child would do to forget to eat. He shook his head to clear away the thoughts. He shouldn't be thinking poorly about the man he was to serve from now on. He turned his attention to the kitchen, noting how good it smelled. He was glad he had already eaten, otherwise he would surely be drooling now. He nodded his head in a hesitant greeting to the kitchen staff who were now all looking at them. It was obvious that these people respected Kirin greatly.

"I tend to get busy with the business of running a kingdom." He said as they moved through the kitchen heading to a back door. "If you ever get hungry there is always some sort of food around." They stepped outside and Kirin looked up smiling seeing his troops practicing their flying maneuvers.

After pondering that for a second, Cain decided that running a kingdom probably was a busy sort of affair. It was certainly something he did not wish to be a part of himself. Politics were messy and boring despite it. "I'll keep that in mind," he murmured before he followed Kirin outside. His eyes were instantly draw up to the sky and he looked in awe with just a slight bit of fear mixed in. To see creatures such as these flying through the sky was totally foreign from him even though he'd traveled quite extensively in his time and seen many wondrous things. He'd seen huge birds with beaks and claws as black as their wings, but this was far more impressive. A slight chill worked its way through this blood. "Your people must make fearsome enemies..." he observed quietly.

"yes, but we are a peaceful kingdom. Though we will defend ourselves if we need too." He said. He did miss flying with them, though he doesn't have much time for it since he had become king. "I miss it." He said as he watched them.

Cain never stopped staring up at the figures wheeling about in the sky. He heard the wistfulness in Kirin's voice and even wondered why the other man did not fly himself now, but his thoughts were mostly occupied elsewhere. "It looks horrifying honestly. Such creatures you are..." he said as he fought back a shiver. He dropped his eyes and turned to stare off elsewhere at the ground where it was safe. He hadn't meant to sound disgusted by Kirin's kind, but he realized only a second too late that must be what it sounded like he was saying. That wasn't it though. It was the idea of flying that sent shivers down his spine, mostly. He still had nightmares about the giant black birds whenever his feet weren't firmly on the ground. Not all of his travels had been merry ones.

"I'd rather we went back inside," he said nervously, rubbing his arm absently.

"Of course," Kirin said. He could tell that Cain was uncomfortable. He wondered if it was because of his people being dragons or if there was another reason. He lead Cain back through the kitchen and continued the tour. Kirin hoped that Cain didn't find him disgusting. He led Cain to the library.

Cain trailed after Kirin silently. He was completely lost in thought and he paid no attention to any of his surroundings. He simply kept his eye on Kirin and walked. When they got to the library, he finally looked up and took in the sight of many books. There were more books here than he'd ever seen in his life. "How do you have so many?" he asked.
