I want a sweet potato burned into a diamond. :O

Jelly, they're dried beans that are white. I'll see if I can find a photo. To me they taste no different than red kidney beans or black beans. The only differences I find are in texture, not taste.

I feel like they have less of a distinct taste than red kidney (which are somewhat sweet to me) or black beans, but I'm willing to admit that some of that might be due to the visual. Anyway, they are great in soups!

@Minako - I like to use ground turkey in meatloaf also. :) I don't use a spice mix though, just season with salt, pepper & fresh marjoram if I have it. And then I saute some finely chopped onion, celery & sometimes carrot or mushroom in butter & add that. And bread crumbs, an egg and a wee bit of milk. Sauteing the veggies helps keep the loaf moist, which makes a huge difference given that turkey has very little fat. Super yummy!

And now I think I know what I'm making for dinner.

I don't see why a burnt sweet potato couldn't end up as a diamond. Just the minor issues of a truly massive amount of pressure being required, and possibly a few million years, to turn the carbon into a diamond. Trivial details!

I'm thinking I'll just boil some noodles and have leftover sauce with them. I'm not up for cooking a big thing. I'm going to make a grocery list in a few minutes to meal plan out the next week. I think "holy yum chicken" will be on the list. Has anyone tried it?

Yep--many, many times. It's tasty! :) We usually eat it with rice and a veg. The best part is it's very easy to make with little effort whatsoever. Maple syrup is expensive, but it does stretch.

I think I might have reblogged that recipe on Tumblr! I know I've seen it on there and read the post, anyway.

That looks like you'd be able to use honey instead of maple syrup (despite the recipe being entirely against substitutions )

I think you could use honey without issue, but I've made both that recipe and a honey mustard recipe (with honey, lemon, colman's powdered mustard combined with dijon and spices), and they're completely different in the end. I am nearly positive the honey in the holy yum would be delicious, regardless!

I baked custard tonight in ramekins. Yum yum!

Hmmm saute veggies in meatloaf that's a good idea~! Though I doubt my dad or sister would like it. They are super picky about that stuff!!

Just made some snickerdoodles today and they are yummy~! Applesauce is great replacement for sugar!! The house smells good too now!

I got a chicken, but I'm just gonna stick it in my slow cooker (crock pot) on some onions. Was so tasty when I did that before! Might add carots and celery, and a spot of seasoning, we shall see!

Not cooked chick chick yet, but I made a small amount of soup yesterday which turned out pretty nice. I am trying to follow recipes/guidelines a bit more, so I checked out the recipes on the website of Abel & Cole, If I had the money I'd buy all my groceries from these people! Their soups are amazing, so I thought I'd try and use their guides!

I roasted some veggies (2 fair-sized carrots, a parsnip and half a pattypan squash) that I wanted to try using for stock. Gently fried an onion in a covered pan for 30 minutes or so, then added 2 diced carrots and a stick of celery, and some salami, and some herbs and spices and whatnot. That did gently for another 30 minutes or so. While that was doing I covered the roasted veg in water, brought to the boil and simmered for 20 minutes or so. Wasn't sure if that would work for the stock, but it seemed to.

I made an error at this point though, I put some red lentils into this pan, and immediately realised I shouldn't have as they were going to absorb all that roasted veggy-flavoured water, I should have cooked them seperately and added them once they were cooked. They did soak up all the fluid, but I put the veggy/salami mixture in with it, then boiled the kettle and put that into the empty pan to deglaze it then used that to get the soup to a blendable consistency.

I didn't blend it completely, I like soup with some chunks of veg, it was still pretty thick but I didn't want to add more water. Tasted nice though, the roasted veg flavour definitely came through so I'm going to do that again. I'm glad I tried adding salami too. I'll do this again, but remember to cook the lentils seperately next time! I'm interested to see how much flavour it has without the salami.

Back to report on the Holy Yum Chicken. I followed the recipe exactly despite wanting to change some things as I made it. :) Partner loved it. I thought it was interesting but lacking the punch I was hoping for. I may try it again with a better/different mustard as I felt like the sweetness won out in the end and it lost some of its complexity, for me. I liked the flavor of the sauce better before the cooking.

I was gonna crock pot a chicken tonight, but the store I go to for meats had some beautiful pork loin roasts on sale, so I wound up getting one of those instead. Maybe I'll make a pot roast?

@jelly - Neat soup recipes there! I want to try this one sometime:

The Jolly Green Soup

There's a lot of kale around this week; this soup is a great way of using it all up! Serves 4‐6

1 big bunch chard
1 bunch kale
1 bunch spring onions, sliced
1/2 bunch parsley
1 ¼ litres water
1 tsp salt, more to taste

2 onions, chopped
2‐3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
3 tsp olive oil
700‐900ml vegetable or chicken stock
1 tbsp lemon juice, more to taste

Wash greens thoroughly. Trim chard and kale from stems; slice the leaves. Combine chard, kale, green onions and parsley in soup pot with water and salt. Peel potato; cut it into big pieces and add to pot. Bring water to boil, turn down flame, and let simmer for about 30mins. Heat 2 tsp olive oil in a non‐stick pan; cook chopped onions slowly, with a sprinkle of salt, until golden and soft. This will take up to fortyfive minutes ‐ don’t hurry; you only need to give them a stir once in a while, and it’s the slow cooking that develops the sweetness. If you like, deglaze pan with Marsala or sherry at the end. Add the caramelized onions to the soup. Put 1 tsp oil in the pan and stir chopped garlic until it sizzles and smells great. Add garlic to pot; simmer everything for a few minutes more. Add enough broth to make the soup; puree in a blender in batches. Don’t over‐process; the potatoes will get slimy if you work it too much. Return soup to pot, bring it back to a simmer, and taste. Season, add lemon juice, stir well and enjoy!

Let me know what additions you try in the future. :) I sometimes add a bit of mustard powder into it to give it more mustard tang/bite.

Kale in soups is quite good. I bet that recipe is tasty.

I've added a larger slow cooker to my list of things people can pick from for stuff for me. Mine's only 2l, and really not big enough. That holy yum sauce would work with pork too, I'd have thought, especially if a mustard with more presence was used.

So much drool in this thread. that pizza looks amazing. And I just happen to have tortillas! I should use this thread as motivation.

Do you eat a lot of turkey, Jelly? I tried something pretty good a few weeks ago, but you might change a few things.
