Why is he holding you up?

He really wants to 'protect' me from making a bad investment.
But I mean, while I know I'm not the wisest person, but I am *ultra picky* about where I live, even moreso about a house I'm going to buy and I think he thinks I don't think of it as a big deal, life changing thing, but I do and I have been thinking for years that I wanted to buy a house and he's made me wait since jan to get all the details worked out. And now (again) there's an offer on a house we want to buy, and we may not be able to outbid them.

I just wish I had known months ago this wasn't going to work out. I would have made plans or started really looking into other places.

Hmm do they hold your money or something? Because otherwise it's not really his business if you want to buy a house with your money! I mean he can lay down all the reasons why he thinks it's a bad investment. But if you decide to go with ultimately that's your choice. Is there something I'm missing? Is it inheritance money or??

But my sister complained and now she gets it until I turn 26.

and *I* get the stick for trying to bring some equity into my life
renting sucks, yo

edit: like I did the math for a *mortgage* and it would be cheaper than renting (but my guy told me to just use the trust and pay cash and then spent 4 months sitting on his butt as i showed him several houses (that all got bought within days of listing) in our price range that were nice and he kept going "ok" and then by the time he got back to me the house was sold.

And how did she get them to up the age? That's pretty weird?
Must be quite a bit in there. The thing with it being in a trust is, don't the lawyers get a big chunk of it every year? I know my friends kids had money in a trust after her husbands mother died. But she manged to get it out, because it was going to cost something ridiculous like 12k per year to maintain in lawyer fees etc. Must be quite a good chunk in there!

Just sounds like he wants to keep taking money from ya. As soon as i turn 26 i'd withdraw the lot n put it in a bank!

Yeah sorta. It wasn't split right away so we've been sharing it and she went to a very expensive college for 5 or 6 years and the trust paid for it, and i've only been withdrawing money from it since I was 22...because before that i was determined to show my family i could make it on my own but then my health failed on me and I had to get back in touch with them for the insurance and they told me about my sister spending all that money so they encouraged me to spend some on productive things like a car (which turned into a house).

So once I spend that money we'll be pretty even, but, meh. There isn't much left at all after that. I got a nice refund check this year and its entirely going into the house + inspections and such.


also my lawyer was my mom's boyfriend when she passed away, and the only money he's taken from it has been to pay me or my sister's bills + when we visit him in NYC because he's a fancy lawyer he takes us to a nice restaurant, and then lets me use a little of the money i have on a nice bottle of wine as a reward for showing up. lol. for a long time (like I said I didn't withdraw money, but I didn't even speak to my family much til then, even now we barely talk tho) i would make plans to see him then flake last minute so a lot of stuff didn't get done in a timely manner. ^^;; my fault. but he's also been a flake occasionally, so fair's fair. and he's learned what will make me show up: a bottle of Cavicchioli. mmmmm.

Same! I was so freaking addicted to them that it wasn't even funny. But I guess I'm just addicted to Overwatch now...sooooo...there's that maybe lol. I miss a lot of the people there, just talking about nonsense and being on MSN chatting it up. It was so much fun.
