Erik stopped and then grinned, letting the baby kick against his hand for a few moments. "Feisty little one," he said, clearly approving. "And we will be keeping an eye on those two, don't think I'm totally distracted now."

"Oh I expected you to want to keep an eye on them," Charles replied. "But I don't believe they will be a problem." Leaning up a little, he gave Erik a kiss. "The little one is just as feisty as his or her father."

Erik chuckled and let himself be distracted for a little while.

By the time the house was really truly quiet, with everyone asleep, Crystal was still awake, too wary and stressed to sleep.

Paige was still awake, too, and ended up getting out of bed to quietly pad over to Crystal's room. She knocked on the door quietly.

"Crys?" she called softly.

Crystal got up too and went to go answer the door, looking at her before ushering her inside.

"Can't sleep either?" she asked quietly as she shut the door.

"No, not really," Paige said as she stepped into the room. "I can't relax yet. It's just... everything still feels kind of weird."

"Everything is weird. I mean, people don't just take in random strangers, it's just not done," Crystal said, pacing the room a bit. "Let alone take strangers into their extremely expensive houses with their far too fragile families."

"I'll work on finding a new apartment in the morning," Paige promised. She was quiet for a moment. "There has to be a landlord out there who won't mind people like us in the building."

"Or we could just kind of forget to mention that," Crystal said, rubbing her temples. "It's a good thing we've got work off tomorrow, we'll have to figure out how we're going to get there and back now." She closed her eyes, feeling stress headache starting.

"We didn't mention it to this last landlord, either," Paige pointed out. She sighed and leaned against Crystal a bit. "We'll figure this out."

"I hope so." Crystal held still for Paige, trying to relax and figure things out. Ideally she'd get more hours at work to help pay for a new place, but she also wasn't sure if she'd be keeping her job for much longer. Which was very worrisome.

Paige was quiet for a minute or two. She was thinking along the same lines as Crystal.

"I can see about picking up a second job," she said. "Waitressing or something. Enough to keep us afloat until things settle." She hated waitressing, but it was one of the only jobs she would be able to find and pick up quickly enough.

"If you do then I will," Crystal said. "We'll both see about getting second jobs to make things work. For now at least." She sighed and moved over to her bed, sitting down and pulling Paige down next to her. "We'll make things work. Somehow."

Paige settled in next to Crystal.

"At least we have shelter for tonight," she said. "Tomorrow we can see which of our things survived the rain, and see about finding a new place. Good plan?"

"Yeah. Good plan." Crystal sighed. "We'll work on everything tomorrow. For now we need to see if we can rest, if not sleep."

"Good idea," Paige said. She settled in with a bit of a sigh. "Have to admit, though... the bed is fantastic."

"It is. It's expensive." Crystal sighed as she started to relax, almost against her will. "This is why money is good."

"Promise, I'm working on getting more," Paige said, a bit teasingly. She sighed. "It's kind of a pity that people like us can't use our abilities for a profit, that would solve all our problems."

"Not unless we join a circus," Crystal said, snorting. "We'd make the best sideshow ever, though."

"Just as long as nobody tells me to try to absorb anything transparent," Paige replied, grinning a bit. "That's never pretty."

Crystal snorted and settled down a bit, yawning briefly. "It would all be fun and games up until you tried to absorb glass or something."

"I've done that before," Paige replied. "Was how I figured out that it's just my skin that changes." She yawned as well. "I try not to absorb transparent things anymore."

"Makes sense." Crystal startled herself by yawning again and settling down, getting comfortable. "Well, there are worse places to sleep."

"Definitely," Paige replied, doing the same. "I think we should try to get some sleep now."

"Night." Crystal managed to fall asleep fairly quickly after that, to her surprise.

She woke early the next morning, blinking herself awake and panicking for a few moments in the unfamiliar room. Then she relaxed again and stood, stretching out a bit.
