"Natasha's tried getting him to talk," Steve said. "I've tried. Even Clint and Tony have tried. You're the only one who managed anything." He looked at her, a bit helplessly. "Can you get more from him?"

"I... can try. It's hit and miss, Steve. Sometimes if I pester him to answer something he will, sometimes he'll just stare at me." She shrugged helplessly. "I'll see what I can do."

"Try," Steve said. "Please." Someone had to be able to get through to Bucky, and so far Doreen had gotten the best results. It was worth a shot.

"I'll try," Doreen agreed. She got up and stretched, glancing between Laurel and Steve. "I'll go make a fresh batch of snickerdoodles." She slipped out of the room.

Steve just nodded a bit. Laurel did the same and then went back to making her gifsets.

Doreen made a new batch of cookies and headed over to Barnes' room again, letting herself in and settling on the floor, as usual. She was quiet for a few moments.

"So, Mr. Enhanced senses. How much did you hear of Tony and I arguing earlier?" Considering they'd been right outside his door, she'd be more surprised if he hadn't heard any of it.

Barnes just shrugged a little, though he was a bit surprised that she knew about the enhanced senses. Most people didn't realize it.

Doreen smiled. "Enough of it, I'm guessing. You're not in trouble, if you were wondering. But I am curious why you haven't spoken to Natasha."

Barnes didn't reply immediately.

"The Black Widow was the target," he said finally.

"Right, forgot about that. So talking to targets is generally a no no. Got it." Doreen shrugged. "You could try it sometime. She's not bad, when she's not pissed off."

Barnes shrugged and went quiet again for a little while. Finally, he spoke up again.

"Who's Bucky?" he asked. The question had been bothering him for a while. The name seemed familiar in a visceral way he couldn't place.

Doreen was quiet for a moment. "Bucky was Steve's best friend. They grew up together." She tapped her fingers on the floor for a few moments. "Jarvis, can I get some video feed in here?"

"Of course," Jarvis replied. "Would you like any film clip in particular?"

"The bits from the Smithsonian, to start," Doreen said, shifting a bit. "We'll start there."

"Of course." With that, one of the hologram screens came to life, and the lights in the room dimmed slightly. The first video from the Smithsonian began to play. Barnes watched with rapt attention when his own face appeared.

Doreen was quiet until the first video was over. "There are more, if you want to see," she offered quietly. "I don't think we can go down to the Smithsonian but I'm sure Jarvis can get us a virtual tour, right?"

"Indeed," the AI replied.

Barnes was quiet for a moment, just trying to process what he'd seen.

"I don't remember any of it," he said quietly. "But that was my face. That was my face and I don't remember."

"I'm not too surprised, actually," Doreen said. "You went through a good deal of trauma, and brainwashing, mental programming, conditioning. All sorts of things. It might take a while for you to remember anything about that." She nodded at the image still on the hologram screen.

Barnes watched the screen.

"Is there more?"

"There's plenty more. Jarvis, go ahead and start the virtual tour, please." Doreen settled back to watch. She'd been through the exhibit herself, of course, but it would be neat to see how the AI did it.

Barnes settled in, intent on learning all he could on, apparently, the man he used to be. He needed to know who they thought he was.

Doreen went through the tour with him, and then raided some other archives for footage and information.

"I'll think of other places to find things, too," she said, looking at him. "There's more information, I just need to think of where it would be stashed."

Barnes was quiet, just watching the images. They hit a chord in him that made him uncomfortable; somehow, he felt like he was mismatched somehow. He didn't fit himself anymore, and it bothered him.

Doreen looked at him and tentatively put a hand on his shoulder.

"It's okay, you know. No one expects you to remember all this. I mean, Steve hopes you do or you will, but he's also hopelessly optimistic and a little bit crazy. Things are going to take time, I think. That's what usually happens with lost memories, anyway, they come back slowly or all at once after a couple years, when they come back, and yours should, I think. Although it's kind of hard to say with all the stuff in your head, and I'm really not helping am I? I'm just going to shut up now before I fill my own grave too." Turning red, Doreen made herself stop talking.

Barnes didn't move her hand, though. Somehow, even though she was rambling, it was a bit comforting.
