"Alright. Good luck. The offer stands if he goes overboard and needs tackling." Doreen grinned at him.

"I'll keep that in mind," Bucky said. Then he turned and headed down towards the workshop, mentally preparing himself to face Tony.

The door to the workshop was already open when he arrived and the music was off. Clearly Jarvis had told Tony ahead of time.

"Took you long enough, Terminator," Tony said with a bit of a grin. "Pull up a chair."

Bucky raised an eyebrow, but did as he was told. This wasn't quite the reaction he had been expecting from Tony.

"So, what brings you down here?" Tony looked at him and then at the socket, clearly itching to get his hands on it but actually waiting for once.

Bucky, or rather Barnes, studied Tony for a moment.

"Something's catching," he said, setting the arm down on the table. "Couldn't find what."

"Want me to take a look?" Tony offered. He knew something was a little bit off, but he wasn't going to say anything. Not unless he had to.

Barnes considered it for a moment, and then nodded once.

"Sure," he said. He pushed the arm over towards Tony.

Tony picked it up and immediately started poking and prodding at every possible bit of it to get as much information as he could.

"I'm surprised you haven't had issues with it before this," he said, finally looking at the connection area. "This thing is ancient and bulky and has all sorts of unnecessary parts in here."

"It does what it needs to," Barnes said evenly, watching Tony poke and prod. Absently, he ran his fingers over the socket, making sure there was nothing clogging it up or out of place.

"Does what it needs to. I could make one that did all that, is much lighter, and is more efficient and won't need constant tinkering and upkeep like this one does." He tapped it with a little screwdriver before he went back to fixing it.

"Why would you?" Barnes asked, watching Tony carefully. "You have no reason to even give it a once-over."

"Well, for one thing, I want to look this thing over because they shouldn't have been able to make it when they did," Tony said with a bit of a shrug. "And what's that last comment supposed to mean anyway?"

Barnes looked at him for a moment. Either Tony still had no idea, or he was a phenomenal actor.

"Never mind," he finally said, shaking his head slightly.

Tony looked back at the arm and went back to fixing it.

"You know, when we brought you back, I did look into every record I could find of your appearances. It was a little harder to hack into than normal, so still easy, and it doesn't take a genius to figure out that one of the tires on my father's car blown when the rest were fine meant someone interfered."

"If you knew, why let me stay?" Barnes asked carefully, sitting still. "You've got more than enough reason to want me gone."

"I do," Tony agreed. "But the fact that you were a Soviet mind-wiped doll with a flashy arm at that point helps. Some." He shrugged. "Besides, I got over my old man's death a long time ago, and you haven't tried to kill me, so I didn't kick you out. Steve's puppy eyes did the rest of the work."

Barnes snorted.

"Puppy eyes must be new," he muttered. "Never did that much, before."

"Or you're immune and thus never noticed," Tony pointed out. "Either way. I haven't kicked you out and I'm not about to." He paused. "Unless you try to kill one of my team at this point, that would get you kicked out."

"I tried, remember?" Barnes pointed out dryly, settling back in his seat. "It didn't work. That's how I ended up here in the first place." He ran his fingers over the socket again, this time around the seam between his skin and the metal. "The programming's pretty much gone, anyways, so you're good."

"I did say at this point, I would like to point that out," Tony said. "We're ignoring past attempts because of said programming."

"How generous," Barnes said. He resettled himself in his seat, his remaining hand resting in his lap. He made sure to keep it in plain view.

Tony poked around a little more before he made a little snorting noise and handed the arm back.

"Try that, see how that works for you."

Barnes took the arm back and slid it expertly into his shoulder. It clicked in quickly, and he took a moment to recalibrate his wrist and fingers. Then he rotated the shoulder joint a bit. As soon as he did, he flinched slightly and took it off again.

"Still catching," he said. "Might be an exposed connector or wire, feels like it's shorting somewhere."

"Right, time to check the connector. Just hold still for a minute." Tony moved into his space and directed a light into the socket, starting to poke around in there.
