exactly! It would just really suck for the kids! I know I wasn't athletic in the slightest growing up - so P.E. was my least favorite activity....if they cut out art, music, and library...that's all that would be left!

I missed stuff! Who on Earth decided to cut music, art, and books?

They are proposed budget cuts in the county where I teach. Unless they find more funding or pass a half-cent tax increase for the county - that's what they propose to cut

the people that do not think they are important. as you cant get good paying jobs trying to make it as an artist. think is there are some out there that belive that if we had art and music and such in schools then we would have less in jail.

My dad was not a supporter of me. When I had to go on my court-mandated visits to see him - he would do his best to convince me there was no way I was good enough to make it doing anything with music and should give up. I proved him wrong :P

We lost funding to our dance program at my high school. We still have it, but now all of the dance team kids have to pay for a whole bunch of crap, so our theatrical dance team got cut. Which is a real shame. We had some pretty famous dancers come from that team.

Unacceptable! That kills everything I like. We do not realize what there would not be if there were no artists.

That's such a shame!! I was lucky enough to have a growing program when I went to school - we had no drama program for years before I got to my high school and they added one when I was a junior because we fought hard for it!

Unfortunately - it's in the same county I now work...so...looks like it's turning backwards

Exactly. Go to see a movie, nothing's showing. Turn on the radio, no music is playing. Go to buy clothes, there's nothing to buy. Don't talk to me about your fancy sports team logos, because they don't exist, either. You can't even find a game to play or a book to read.

But we'll pay craptons of money to Pearson and other testing companies to create curriculum and standardized tests that are AWWWFUUULLLLL.
But don't let me get started on that. I am furious with standardized testing.

last I knew our school still has its dance teams and the arts... but then there was a guy manageing the finances who invested wisely and save money in a rainy day fund so that things did not have to be cut. although they did lose their Latin class the year after I left highschool... that was because she got cancer and had to go on bed rest.

i totally agree
we would have more people that don't have time to get into trouble as young kids
it's really a win/win situation for everyone
spend the money now or spend it to incarsirate them later

I'm lucky I don't really have to deal with that in music...although my county now has a music test in 5th grade now - just to see if they've made progress... it's actually interesting for ME to see what I can do to improve their knowledge :)

The public is seeing it as blackmail so everyone is against it which sucks for the schools
ALL ART? What on earth are they doing?! Why has it come down to cutting subjects that have been around for ages. Half cent tax? Are people getting up in arms about that?
That's really sad. We must have it so good here.

That is a shame! My school had a few other languages to offer before I got there like japanese - but the grant to pay for it ended so they just stopped the classes D:

People think it's blackmail - saying they don't like how the county is holding it over their heads "vote for the tax and pay more or your kids lose all these things." So instead of people saying, "of course! I need to support the education!" they are going, "how dare you threaten us!! we would rather not pay!"

I actually didn't have art for a few years - the art teacher at my elementary left and we didn't get a new one until 6th grade D:

Huh. The Latin teacher at my high school is officially in remission from cancer. I don't know if she took a break when she was diagnosed. But she's teaching now.

Yeah. The fourth grade STAAR test had a question about what sense the word "aroma" invoked, and the only sentence the kids had to go with talked about "the spicy aroma of pine trees". Nothing about sniffing the air or anything to give them any freaking clue if they didn't already HAPPEN to know what the word aroma meant.
