"Sure," Bree agreed. "Sounds good. Do you remember where I left my travel kit?"

"On the shelf in your closet, I believe," Charlotte replied. She pulled down the spiced chai she was in the mood for and set it on the counter near the kettle. She had no idea how to make it, so she just let Bree do it.

"Thanks." Bree found her kit and stuffed that in too before she emerged to make the tea, just in time to hear the kettle start whistling. She stayed quiet as she worked.

Charlotte definitely noticed Bree's mood.

"What's wrong?" she asked. "I know it isn't 'nothing.'"

"Just all the bureaucracy and shit I have to deal with," Bree said, shaking her head a bit. "I hate those people sometimes, they like to think they can get us to do whatever they want."

"What are they asking for this time?" Charlotte asked. She knew Bree had had to deal with such things before, but none that had set her off quite like this.

"A detailed report of your status and what I've done with you, how I've made you "better", or whatever. Ridiculous is what it is." Bree shook her head.

"I see." Charlotte frowned slightly at that. "Why do they need to know? It isn't as if I go on a fiery rampage every other day, after all."

"Exactly! They don't need to know, so I don't know why they're bothering." Bree grumbled. Of course, that wasn't all that the letter had wanted to know, but that last part she wasn't going to bring up until after they were back in the city. Because if Charlotte knew that it was time for her to be set up for breeding, she might not come back from the country.

Charlotte shrugged a bit.

"Well, we can ignore it for now," she said. "Tomorrow we will leave for a few days, we won't need to think about it then."

"Exactly." Bree poured the tea for both of them. "That's what I plan on doing, it'll make my life a lot easier."

Charlotte picked up her mug and took a sip of the tea, humming slightly in pleasure when the spices hit her tongue. Oh yes, spiced tea was a very good idea.

"We will leave in the morning, then," she said.

"Sounds good." Bree added a dash of milk to her own tea and settled at the kitchen table for the moment, just calming down and focusing on going out to the country instead.

Charlotte knew Bree was still in a bit of a mood, so she just sat down next to her and enjoyed her tea. It was best to just be quiet company when Bree wasn't happy with something.

By the next morning, Bree had managed to put things out of her mind, and she was ready to go.

"Hopefully it'll be a nice quiet trip this time," she said, looking at Charlotte.

"I hope so too," Charlotte said, nodding. She followed Bree out to the bus stop. She hated the public-transit parts of the trip, but she would endure it for the chance to fly the last part, like usual.

The trip actually went smoothly and fairly quietly. They'd picked a good day to travel, and Bree was rather pleased.

Charlotte took her time once they were able to fly the rest of the way. It felt good to stretch her wings and just fly with Bree for a while. She took the longer way to her cave, and moseyed inside once they got there.

Bree didn't mind, just letting her do what she wanted and not hurrying her along. She was just fine with taking a little while longer to get there and having a bit of time to relax.

Once they were inside, Charlotte settled down amongst her hoard and gave a soft sigh that was mostly steam and smoke. Absently, she picked at a couple of scales that were coming off.

"Want help with those?" Bree offered, though she didn't get up just yet. Sometimes Charlotte agreed, sometimes she didn't. Besides, Bree was kind of comfy.

Charlotte eyed Bree for a moment.

"If you like," she said, moving so she was comfortable and so Bree could get to the trouble spots.

Bree got up and started carefully removing the scales, checking all of them while she was there to make sure none of them were damaged or had rocks under them or anything.

Charlotte relaxed as Bree worked, just laying there contentedly with her eyes closed. She trusted Bree enough to let the human check everything over unsupervised.

Bree decided to do a basic check up while she was there, climbing around on Charlotte. She knew from long practice where the best places to put her feet were, and she knew that she wouldn't hurt the dragon even if she was jumping up and down.
