Dean was just coming out of the bathroom when Sam hung up the phone.

"Was that Bobby?" he asked.

"Yeah. He said he wants us to check out a potential case," Sam said, turning back to his computer to check and see where the last incident had been.

"Anything interesting?" Dean asked, going over to look over Sam's shoulder. "It's not some dinky little haunting or anything, is it?"

"No. Remember those towns that would have a car or a house or something completely frozen over, a few of them in the middle of summer?" Sam asked, working on following the trail back to the most recent location.

"I think I remember hearing something about that, yeah," Dean replied, mentally following the trail along with Sam. "Why, did it happen again?"

"Not something so big, but littler things," Sam said. "Bobby wants us to go check it out. It hasn't hurt anyone yet, so we're supposed to investigate."

"If it hasn't hurt anyone yet, why are we investigating?" Dean pointed out. "Aren't we usually the ones that go in once bodies start dropping?"

"Bobby wants us to go take a look before some other hunter stumbles across it and starts shooting without all the information," Sam said with a shrug. "I agree with him."

Dean shrugged as well. He couldn't fault them for that; finishing a case without any dead bodies appearing sounded good to him.

"Alright," he said. "Let me know when you want to head out."

"In the morning," Sam said, grinning briefly when he found the most recent town. He stretched briefly and stood. "That's where we're headed."

Dean looked at the most recent incident and nodded. He could find that place, no problem.

"We'll leave after breakfast," he said.

"Sounds good." Sam grabbed his towel and headed into the bathroom. His turn to shower.

The next morning found them on the road again, heading towards the case. Dean was briefly grateful that they weren't heading for anything blatantly bloodthirsty or vengeful. Maybe for once it would be an easy, everyone-lives case. He could hope.

Sam was quiet, reading up on the previous incidents, up until they got closer to the town. Then he instructed Dean to get off at the right offramp and started looking around.

"Looks like every other town with a problem we've been to."

"In other words, boring," Dean said as he got off the highway. "Not even sidewalks, jesus." He looked around as they drove. "There's a motel, we can set up there."

Sam nodded and let Dean pull into a parking spot before he got out and stretched. Not much activity. "Well, this is going to be fun," he muttered sarcastically, grabbing his computer bag.

"No kidding," Dean replied as he checked his weapons briefly. Once they were checked into the motel, he looked at his brother. "So where do we start?"

"Start asking around? See if anyone has noticed anything?" Sam shrugged. "The last reported incident is at the local newspaper office."

"Newspaper office?" Dean asked, raising an eyebrow. It wasn't often they had jobs in places like that. "Weird, but okay. Let's start asking around, then."

Sam made sure they had everything they needed with them before he started for the newspaper office. It wasn't hard to find; the town wasn't really that big.

Dean let Sam ask the questions, for the most part; Sam was usually better at keeping people calm and helpful. Dean only stepped in when someone needed a firmer hand. Instead, he looked around the office. That was when he found something interesting.

"Hey, Sammy," he said, waving his brother over. The door to the storage closet was hanging open, and there were a couple of big cracks in the wood. "This look weird to you?"

"Yeah," Sam said, moving over to get a closer look. "It does. Those didn't develop over time, those cracks are from sudden damage. And not the kicking the door in type of damage either."

"Exactly," Dean said as he opened the door more. The sheetrock on the walls was water-stained, and the carpet had a bit of a squish to it. "Well, someone needs a new cleaning crew..."

Sam squatted down to touch the carpet, rubbing his fingers. "Dean, this closet has been soaked. And I'd bet it was frozen before that."

"So we found ground-zero," Dean said. He glanced around the office. "Now we just need to find who did it."
