"Anyone who's been acting odd, or anyone who was unusual in the building," Sam said, glancing around. "Someone around here knows, there's gotta be as many gossips here as any other office."

Dean nodded.

"Let's start asking, then," he said. "See what we can find. I'll take half, you take half?"

"Sounds good." Sam stood again and headed back towards the main work area, wrinkling his nose a bit at the cubicles.

Dean went in the opposite direction, asking their typical questions as he went. He did pause at one cubicle when one guy gave him a look that said maybe he had information.

"You know anything?" he asked, stopping at the cubicle.

"I dunno, maybe," the guy at the desk replied. "What're you looking for?"

"Anything strange," Dean said. "New people in town, something new in the office, anything out of the ordinary."

The guy shrugged. "Well, there's the girl who normally works next to me." He pointed at her cubicle. "She's a bit of a freak, left early yesterday, haven't seen her since. She's always so paranoid and quiet, doesn't talk to anyone."

"Bit of a freak?" Dean repeated. "Kinda harsh for a co-worker, isn't it?"

"She's only been here a year, never socializes." The guy shrugged. "I try talking to her and she runs off. You'd think everyone was out to get her or something the way she acts."

That was setting off a ton of alarm bells in Dean's head.

"Anything else you can tell me about her?" he asked. "Anything at all?"

"Nope. I don't know where she lives, if she lives with anyone, if she has pets, nothing. Nada. Unfriendliest person I've ever met," the guy grumbled. "That's her desk over there." He pointed.

"Thanks," Dean said, going over to the desk. It seemed very empty: it had all the bare essentials, but not one personal thing at all. No pictures, no trinkets, not even a motivational poster. A quick look through the drawers revealed much of the same. Absolutely nothing. And that, in itself, was strange. Quickly, he went to find his brother.

Sam hadn't gotten anything, so he was waiting to meet Dean back near the front of the building. When he saw Dean was in a hurry, he raised an eyebrow.

"What? Did you find something?"

"I think so," Dean said. "Apparently one of the guys was griping about a co-worker. Said she worked here for a year, never socialized, kept to herself." He snorted. "Not that I blame her with Captain Friendzone at the next desk. But I rooted around in her cube, and there was nothing there. Only thing that proved anyone even used the desk was the name on the wall of the cube."

"Okay," Sam said. "So, what? You want to look into that person more?" He raised an eyebrow at his brother. It seemed a little thin, at least the way Dean had explained it.

"It's the only lead we've got," Dean pointed out. "And I dunno about you, Sam, but if someone works the same job for a year, they don't keep their desk looking like they're ready to bolt."

Sam nodded slowly. That made a certain kind of sense.

"Alright, we'll see what we can find."

"Alright," Dean said. "Well, I got the name off the thing at the desk. I'm pretty sure we have a lead here, Sammy. Guy called this chick a freak, came right out and said it. This might be easier than we thought."

Sam nodded. "That would be a nice change," he muttered, motioning for Dean to hand over the name plate so he could start looking up the girl and find out where she lived.

Dean handed over the name plate, glancing across the office again.

"Kinda weird," he commented offhandedly. "Always ready to bolt, not making any lasting connections, paranoid... Kinda reminds me of us."

"Huh. Yeah, does sound like us." Sam over the name before he left the building so he could grab his laptop and do some digging. "Except we've got Bobby."

"Yeah," Dean said. "See what you can dig up." Depending on what Sam found, they would act from there. Because it was all starting to smack of a quick getaway, and Dean wanted to find whoever it was before they slipped under the radar again.

It took Sam a little while of digging through records, but he finally hit gold.

"From what I can tell, she's lived in every town that's had an ice problem," he said, turning his computer around to show Dean. "She moves every year or two, after a big incident, just like clockwork."

"Bingo," Dean said. "Bet you anything that's who we're after." It was too big of a coincidence to be anything but what they were looking for.

"Let's go, then," he said. "I want to see what's going on here before she bolts again."

Sam nodded and settled into the car, letting Dean drive and giving him directions.

The house didn't look like much; small, simple, no door mat, no flags, no flowers out front. It looked kind of depressing, actually.
