Once she had a little pile of gemstones on the floor in front of her, Tiana relaxed a little. That was better.

Dean glanced over when he got off the phone and did a double-take.

"What's with the rocks?" he asked, eyeing the pile of rough gems.

"I collect them, it's a hobby," Tiana said, pulling them in closer, as if he'd steal them.

"You carry your collection with you?" Dean asked, raising an eyebrow. Because that was just weird.

"Some of it," Tiana said. It was all true, technically. It was a part of her collection, and she did collect gemstones. She just made them first.

"Why?" Dean asked. That was so impractical he didn't have words for it. "They're useless."

"They're not useless," Tiana said. "They give me something else to focus on. Besides, they make good impromptu games when I'm stuck somewhere bored out of my mind."

"They're rocks," Dean said flatly. "You're playing with rocks."

"What can I say, I have inexpensive tastes in toys." Tiana stared at him, daring him to say more.

Sam cleared his throat loudly.

Dean gave a short sigh of frustration and went outside. He didn't want to deal with them at the moment.

Sam stayed there to keep an eye on them. He knew that Dean would come back once he'd cooled off and there was food.

Avery watched Sam carefully.

"Have we met somewhere before today?" she asked after a few moments. "You seem familiar and I'm not sure why." She glanced at Tiana for confirmation.

Tiana nodded a bit. She'd noticed it too.

Sam paused for a moment. "We were checking out the last town you were in," he said.

That made Avery instantly on guard.

"Why?" she asked cautiously.

"We're hunters," Sam said. "We were making sure there was nothing in town that was dangerous to people. We wanted to get there first before some other hunters got there and went a little gun-crazy."

"That didn't answer my question," Avery said, her tone a bit sharp now. "Why?"

"A friend of ours pointed us at the town," Sam said. "Told us to investigate and see if we found anything dangerous, which we didn't."

"What were you investigating?" Avery pressed. Because she needed to know if it was her fault or not.

Sam shrugged and stood when he heard a car outside. "That's probably the pizzas. That or Dean." He walked over to go check through the peephole, and then opened the door to give the pizza guy his money and take the pizzas.

Avery went quiet, tense. It didn't take a genius to figure out that the two guys had been investigating her mishap at the newspaper office. Her fingers tightened on the edge of the small table, frost fanning out from her fingertips.

"Hey." Tiana poked her. "Stop that. You're frosting again." And if she didn't stop there would be another incident.

"They were after me," Avery said quietly. "It was my fault, it was the thing at the office, that's why they were there."

"I know, I remember," Tiana said quietly. "They came to the house, remember? Well, you didn't see them, I talked to them."

Avery bit her lip, curling her hands into fists and pulling them in close to herself so she wasn't touching the table anymore. She didn't like the fact that she had been out of control enough that people were starting to track her down.

Tiana sighed. "I know. Just calm down. We'll be okay."

Sam brought the pizza inside. "You two should eat."
