Of Princes and Poisons

I'm looking for someone who is interested in doing a mideval fantasy RP where we play (several) a few characters in a power struggle for the throne.

This contains:
  • Nobles
We'll be playing with nobles and knights!
  • Arranged Marriage
Because love should be awkward, if not completely un-achievable. It makes my happy that way.
  • Evil Advisers
We can play good guys and bad guys!
  • Minimal Magic Use
Books of ancient spells? I think so!
  • No Historical Content
Pfffttt, why would we limit ourselves to something real when we could have something unreal!
  • Romance
Passionate, false, awkward, unrequited, forbidden, and/or just down right tragic, please!
  • Probable Death of as Many Characters as Possible
    Huzzah! Death!
  • Action and Adventure
Because that's what we're here for.

The Basic Plot:
Quote:
A single family reigned over the kingdom of [name] for many generation, perhaps too many. The kingdom is peaceful, and ever unchanging, with consistent trade and treaties with neighboring kingdoms. War was only a distant concept to the people of [name]. But not all are contented in a time of prosperity. The fortune of [name] takes a turn for the worse when the queen loses first her unborn child, and then her life to mysterious illness. The plague taints the kingdom with it's unnatural hex. The king must choose his successor before this death sentence takes him too. With the king beginning to fall ill a council is call with all potential heirs to the throne.
Direction of the Story Options: (and mass effect references!)

Spacer:
Quote:
The king selects the best possible heir and arranges his marriage to a royal cousin of a neighboring kingdom to assure continued success and harmony. Unknowingly to the king, the adviser to the plots against them intending to doom their marriage.
Colonist:
Quote:
The king selects the worst possible heir unknowingly and arranges his marriage to a royal cousin of a neighboring kingdom to assure continued success and harmony. Little does the king know, the heir is working with the adviser to the plots against the kingdom, and with the help of a dark magic worshiping cult hopes to seal their doom.
Earthborn:
Quote:
The king dies before selecting an heir and his closest relative must temporarily take the throne. She however must marry to hold the crown. The lord [naaaamme] is the most experienced canindate for marriage and in good favor with neighboring countries. The lord has only selfish and dark motives however and means to start a war with another kingdom. War being good business for an adviser, he uses his dark forces begin to remove all who wish to stand against the marriage, as well as hastening the turmoil between the two lands.
Flavoring Options:

Sole Survivor:
Quote:
The wedding ends with I dos and disaster leaving only one member of the union still standing after a tragic catastrophe. There are whispers of a curse on the crown and dark magic at work. Some how the new Majesty must uncover this sinister plot to end their life.
War Hero:
Quote:
Though married the heart of the soon to be crowned does not belong to their betrothed. After a direct attempt at assassination, they begin to fall for a knight who saves them. The dutiful knight must continue to protect the heir, and not fall victim themselves.
Ruthless:
Quote:
Now crowned and with no intentions of giving up the crown, or their life, the new king will cut down anyone in their path to glory including their own bride. Driven mad with a terrible combination of power, paranoia, and magic, everyone must fear the kings wrath, lest the heads begin to role.
So there are some options slice, dice, mix, match etc. Character can be passed out variably once we have this planned out.

I play all genders, and sexualities. I am 25(almost 26!), so if you're over the age of 18, we can take anything we need to to the PMs if you don't want to skip over it. Though as I have no proof of your age, I /prefer/ to skip those things, or gloss them in a PG-13 way.

Not really I'm up for playing several characters. Should it be two kingdoms or more then two? I think if its just us two would be plenty one for each of us.

The way you wrote about arranged marriages and romance just made me chuckle and feel fuzzy, because I agree with you. xD It's just so much more fun any 'not easy right away' way!

Also, interesting plot! Is there even happy ending in this? But sometimes, story doesn't need them. Not for main characters at least.

finx15: whoa now, we haven't even gotten in to the nit grit of talking compatability here and I hate to bring it up but since I really want to RP this and see it at least a good portion of the way through, this is necessary that I treat this like a virgin and take it slow. My wants are obviously not for good intentions. The more I love my characters, the more they suffer. I plan on killing people off more frequently than I should want to because they are expendable. I need a variety of character types, so I'm really hoping you're just as good as being cruel as you are kind. You didn't mention what direction or flavoring you liked as each of those changes the direction of the story. And where you want this to go. I mean, I'm really going to be difficult if we simply jump in seeing as my goal is to take everything nice and slowly drip acid on it until nothing is left but stark white bones.

sadrain: absolutely! The more it's worked for, the better it is, and if it's rushed in to then I expect so much suffering.

You did ask if I had any thoughts and that was the first one that popped into my head.

I only accept love from first sight thing if it's one sided... Until the other ends up accepting/returning it, the first might have already moved on!
I must admit, I've had to put up with meekly done romances for too often, so I'm particularly picky about them now. Better not have it all than a lame one. Some people have gotten angry because I've not changed my character's attitude just so the romance would form, but that's just beyond what I'm willing to do.

finx15: I have a feeling I may not be the partner for you dear.

sadrain: I love unrequited torment. lol perhaps I'm just a terrible person. Meekly done? I couldn't do it. If we're writing a romance I want full steam awkwardness. I haven't done a RP with romance as the main plot in a while, because a lot of people only seems to want to rush in and smut. And I like the complex emotional aspect best. I also have had people complain about my characters not being lovey dovey, or being difficult, but it's like, I told you this going in to it, don't look at me. You wanted me to play a certain type so they're always that way. I'm not going to rewrite my shy character not to react shyly just because you suddenly can't be bold in writing.

I've done 'sacrifices' for sake of old RP acquaintances. But no more. Especially since it just kills the RP. ): Still, I better see a RP go than change my character for sake of lovey-dovey or just any kind of romance. Which is why some of my characters seem to be destined alone in the world - they are fit for that kind of life, so I don't mind too much, but they'd be so fun and challenging in forming relationships. But, obviously, too much work for most.
Of course, when I was 14, I did the silly RPs, too, but we were of equal age and then it was just cute and fluffy, and I did end up tired of it, too.
Smut is another sad part... Like, on a site I go on, lot of people publish and play their Furcadia characters that are amazingly in-depth and so on... But it's all about smut and slavery and more smut in the end. Makes me sad. I don't play that kind of stuff. And that's my choice, as it's theirs to play it, but ends up limiting my choices.

Well, it's really nice to see that someone has similar romance views in RP world. :) I do like to torture my characters, too, but most of them I'm too attached to kill off. Then again, I could do it in one setting, just not take them off my whole OC list, hehe. ^^; Side characters like NPC... they can go, though.

Why because I can think? It was a good question if I say so there would have been more details hashed out but that was what I thought of first. If you think that's stupid well then you are weird.

Oh this is interesting. ^_^ I'd be happy to follow the roleplay wherever it goes. The idea of dying characters seems more tasteful than the typical everyone-lives-in-the-end sort of end. I would put my hand in to RP it, but I tend to stray from well-formed plots. ^^; Therefore I shall be a lurker, if that's okay?

*whispers I'm in the same boat as Harley Quinn with lurking*
The whole idea that people want instant 'true love' attraction in a lot of RPs is little sad. Like, where is the fun in that? How are you meant to progress with that kind of thing.

Oh well, hello you sexy little lurkers you! I'm sorry I haven't replied to anyone, I'm fighting the plague right now and I have the attention span of a piece of lint.

finx15: I never said any of that. So now I really believe that we're not compatible partners. I shouldn't be insulted for saying I'm not interested in going this path with you. That's extremely rude.

sadrain: Omg, Furcadia! Ha, I remember going on there, way under aged and totally not prepared. Talk about a throwback. I have less issue with smut, if it's still interesting and done well. But, I'd rather write a death scene than a sex scene any day. haha. I'm actually writing the first real sex scene in my novel today and I got shy and wandered off to get on Menewsha (weirdly enough I wrote a death scene right before the sex scene). And while irl, I was looking to become a sub, I find role playing that sort of relationship completely dull, because most people don't understand the nuisances of the power flow. Or how, though the dom may seem to have the power it's actually the sub who holds all of the control, the design the limits, they decide when to misbehave, they control the boundaries. Being a dom is actually giving up control in favor of command. The intimacy and concern with the enjoyment of the other is the foundation of the relationship.

I've written some fairly Mary sure things, and I, at 25 finally understand the importance of pants in a story (a character a reader can insert themselves in to). But unlike Smeyers I understand the fine line between. I just feel like the best love is worked hard for, in life and in fiction. Sometimes you just love people when you meet them (at least as friends) but the greatest, the most powerful, is the one that you fight for.

Haha, comparing. I literally could not write the word comparing just now and had to retype it 6 times because my fingers and my brain don't want to communicate. I have the sniffly mucus like virus going around, which is gross but not the worst thing. I beat my fever in the first couple days, so there was that. And now I'm just trying to fight my want for milk and cookies, when milk is trying to murder me.

Glad I'm not the only one that enjoys torturing some of my favorite characters. It is fun to see them squirm and break. Pushing them to the point of defeat is where the fun really comes in. The most attached I feel, the stronger the writing. The more passion. Ah, yes, one cannot help but make them suffer!

Variety is well and dandy, too. One cannot simply play only good as that gets dry after a while. I have my fair share of darker or inhuman characters. I've one who's in love with his twin sister. Another who's hellbent on killing his brother. Also those who hate their own kin and kind. Yes, yes! The more characters of differing personalities and views, the better. It opens up so many doors. So many possibilities!

And your forced marriage. Ah, yes! Love cannot always be as we see in the movies. Must make it real from time to time, yes? Sadrain and I have a roleplay going where we had originally hoped the characters might fall in love but the more we play with them, well, the harder it'll be to achieve that. Granted, it doesn't mean that feelings don't eventually develop. It's more fun that way. To let the story guide the character and his movements and thoughts.

O.O I just realized I totally intruded. My b! I was just dropping in to add my two cents to the pot. No idea why though. I guess I was bored? *shrugs*
