Wow, there are so many cool theme ideas on the front page! I would love to get involved with helping out this year.

My top three favorite themes are:
Desert Winds Caravan
Menewshan Magical Academy (magic and wizardry heck yes!)
Menewsha and the Beanstalk (I am always always down for fairy tales)

You're definitely welcome, Chexala! I also am kind of obsessed with fairy tales of all sorts, although you probably already figured that out from the Asarth game.

Yes! We can still use their images/names, we just can't expect them to actually show up in the thread.

I was thinking the Japanese one can all merge together to attain a much more packed and concentrated package.
the Tanabata can be the storyline, and the activities in the festivals could be all efforts/games to reunite the couple. I forgot to mention that earlier.

That's actually a great idea, xuv. When I have time later I'll see if I can condense those into one, unless someone else wants to do it.

Wyrm, you already separated the theme and activities in different section, keep that format.

In my thinking, event is better to make up of various element, that is storyline and activities. Theme could encompass the storyline, and activities are the games and contests etc. Some traditional real life festivals may not have enough activities that could translate well into forum games, which is why merging would be good. The mix and matching of elements is also a kind of creativity and art.

By the way, in terms of lanterns, that reminds me of the Chinese Mooncake festival. We play lantern and eat mooncake, there is a story about that mooncake, but let's put it aside, since the mooncake one occur on August. But the point I bring that up is that, there is this feature of chinese often put riddle on the lantern for people to guess. I don't know about the detail, but I am sure there is riddle and pictures on the prettiful lantern. That particular lantern riddle activity was mention during CNY as well in old times. Anyway, there you have it, riddle. XD

You do not need to revamp the whole thing, keep clear of things. Theme remain on theme, activities remain on activities. Later when theme is decided, then you can decorate the activities to suit theme.

OH, and this same formular is applicable for all different themes.

Yes, I have them separate... but many of the theme descriptions include ideas for activities that would go well with them, to help people get started. You can hammer out the rules for each type of activity without having a theme to connect it to, but I like to see some starter ideas for connecting the activity with the theme because it makes the theme feel more polished. I figured pollik would have the most ideas, since that was her* idea.

Besides which, we have 2 more weeks of downtime before voting begins, and figuring out rules won't take up much of that time. Coming up with little ideas for peoples' favorite themes gives us something to keep our interest while we wait. I'd love to see more activity ideas that aren't connected to themes, as well, but I think just about every event activity I've seen in the year or so I've been on Mene is already represented on the first page.

Also, I'd love to see a theme description for the mooncake festival! Yeah, it's not 'til August, but Carnival/Mardi Gras is in February/March, Sakura's early spring, and Tanabata's August 2nd this year. Let's not let dates keep us away from cool themes.

Looking deeper into Wikipedia, I see the first date I looked at isn't necessarily when it's always celebrated... It's still not when we're doing the event, so I say it counts if you want to do the mooncake festival! Or we could do an event centered around various Moon myths... like the Japanese bunny pounding rice cakes, or the Cree rabbit riding the moon... I might be slightly biased toward moonbunnies.

I agree that we don't want to get too attached to things... but sometimes coming up with an activity idea for one theme will give people ideas on how to use it for other themes. And we haven't gone nearly as crazy with activity ideas as themes. I'd love to see more activity ideas, and it's a little easier to come up with them if you have an specific application in mind instead of a generalization.

I can't think of anything too major, Codette! We're still coming up with new themes and activities, and we've decided that we'll do a PM vote to narrow things down starting on the 24th. Then we'll put our 5-7 favorite themes up for a public poll on the 1st of February. [nod]

I would suggest condensing the themes down to the same size, and maybe link to the original post that explains each theme? That way, someone can follow the link (or multiple links if it wasn't all in one post) for more infomation. I'd be willing to help out with the process.

Also, I'd also like to see a list of people interested in running stickies, artwork, and so on. ^_^
