Faelann watched as Fitz seemed to weigh the story that his sister had told and what it would mean to him as they walked. Part of him wondered if any one would have thought to tell the Prince that something like that had happened to his people or if they like some of the other men he had met thought that it was to trivial a matter to worry the Prince's with. How many times had some kindness of the enemy been silenced so that those that ran the war would not be troubled with the morality of it?
slowly he seemed to fold in upon himself as he contemplated how often that could have happened to his family before him. It had generations since they had last had a war prince to lead the army in person. His father and his father's father before him had been the only sons in a long line of children. In truth it was his great aunt that had started the tadishion of the princesses being taught the fighting arts as well as the princes. She had stood in place of a war prince but none had believed her stories of the horror of battle, they said it was only the worry's of a woman who could not know the truth of battle.
"Do not mind my brother." Yalann said as she looked back at him then only to gasp as they entered the palace properly. Her eyes grew in wounder as she walked up to the panels and looked at the fine work done into the glass its self. she had been in a church that had fallen into disuse generations ago that had been said to be an old ones site but their stain glass had not been this finely detailed. "This work is beyond any I have ever seen." turning she looked back at Fitz her face full of wounder. "How many of the Old Ones sites do you know of in your kingdom. My great great grandfather lost the last one that was standing to an attack on his men near the end of his rain. All we have left of theirs is the lower levels of our family palaces which while finely carved are not this beautiful."
Turning around to take in the beautiful of the full room she caught sight of a mosaic down one of the halls. running she stumbled as she reached it. inlaid in the smooth stone that showed no seams were pictures of tiny pieces of glass that depicted mages coming down from the stars in large pod like things. In one of the pictures a mage stood with many children around him handing out what looked to be bread. In another picture the young ones seemed to be learning how to farm the ground. beyond that there were more that told the story of how this palace came to be the seat of a mage who held power over some small villages. "what marvels!" her voice was filled with awe.

Fitz had a fond smile looking over Yalann while she looked over the intricate designs in wonder. "I think we have 2 other's besides this one. However they are not as grande." He walked over to where she was kneeling on the ground and kneeled on one knee next to her. "I am sorry for the loss of your own sites. Honestly if any places should be left alone it should be these. In case you're you were wondering that mage is called Yvair. His element was fire which made the people both fear him and live in awe of him. But he gave them warmth in winter and scared away any attackers with the stories of his strength." Another love he had was history (mostly history of buildings but history nonetheless) and he hoped she'd appreciate the stories too.

Yalann looked over at Fitz and smiled as he talked of the history of this palaces. While she knew of the old ones and enjoyed the artwork they made it was her brother that would enjoy the history story's. "I know that you would not have done that to such a beautiful place but one of your ancestors or their underlings did not care as much as you do." Reaching out she gently touched the glass work in the stone. "do you know how they did that? how they placed it into the stone without any mortar or grout?" the wounder in her voice was catching.
<Brother dear I think you may have some one here that will have much to talk to you about if you give him a chance.> Her voice was soft and caring but he could tell she was trying to get him to involve himself in the talks more then just to stand guard. she returned to looking at the artwork before her trying to figure out how it had been done. At first she had thought that maybe it was all grout but as she felt it she realized that this was like no grout she had ever seen or touched, if it was grout.
"who did he have to protect his people from?" Faelann's voice was surprisingly genital and interested in what he was asking about. his eyes sparkled at the thought of finding out about one of the Old ones that a name was known. "and what is this pod like thing that he and his people came from?" He pointed to the white pod that they appeared from. his finger caught upon the glass and he stood there for some time just gently rubbing it. he had never realized how smooth the stone of the old ones was, the church that he and his sister had played in did not have smooth walls but stones stacked one on top of the other.
<maybe we have something to talk about here, but I am not sure that he would like to talk with me after the way I have acted around him.> out of the corner of his eye's Faelann looked over at Fitz trying to think of a way to make amends without seeming to, to his men.

"No one really cares about history any more. To them a building is another building. But it's not. Its a representation of ingenuity and people coming together to create something great." His fond smile hadn't left. "That materials they used to build their buildings are a lot different to what we use. There were more mages back in this time so they were able to cut a few corners. It's my belief, especially because of the fact Yvair was present, that a lot more of their items were able to be smelted together and so they didn't really need adhesives." Due to his inability to explore the place more thoroughly previously he hadn't an exact answer for that question, but he hoped his hypothesis would suffice for now.
"Its hard to say because all books pertaining history before the war were burnt during the war. I have a firm belief that it wasn't anyone from what became yours or my kingdoms." Even though Faelann was the one who asked the question, Fitz refused to look at him and gave the answer to Yalann. "Of course everyone says that I'm ridiculous for believing that because when was there a time we weren't fighting but if you look closely at the men," he pointed at a tile depicting Yvair fighting off a group of soldiers, "you can see that they have these weird symbols on them. They're small but they're there. I think it's some sort of tribal tattoo, and none of our kingdoms have ever had it. At least I've never heard of any of your people having marks like that. It just makes me wonder what started the war between us..." Fitz got lost in his train of thought and quietened down, thinking over things he knew and things he would never know.

Faelann was stunned at the thought that there were people who only saw history as a building and noting more. Even he who had lived his life fighting war could see that each of the old ones building that they could find and understand meant that they would have a better grasp of the Old ones magic. With that magic they could make this world a better place, making the lives of the peasants ease and more comfortable for them. Even just the thought of this wonderful building material should make home building quicker and stronger.
His hands glowed as he tried to find the secret of what made the stone work the way that it had. Within the walls he found lines of metal that he had never seen before let alone knew why they were there. "Do you or your mages know why there are fine wires within the walls?" He did not care if Fitz did not look at him when talking about history, if they both loved history as he seemed to then Yalann would find a way of getting Fitz to see how they were the same in that respect and maybe he could teach him how to fight. Suddenly the puzzle of this place and the marriage to come did not seem to him so far away.
"If you are ridiculous for believing that there was a time before our two country's fought then so are we. I have searched all the records at my brothers request when we were younger to find information on what caused the war." Yalann patted Faelann's arm as he cast the spell. "We both have thought that there must be a cause to have changed our world from what it was like when the Old ones lived to now. alas the books that seemed to contain the information we looked for were faded or falling to dust by the time I was allowed access to them. I have plans that when I am married, to who ever that may be, I will request the money to send scribes into the records and copy all that is fading and save it before time takes it away from us all."
she started when her brother spoke of the wires in the walls. A memory of long ago, a game of hide and seek floated to the surface of her mind. yet before she could grasp it and understand its inportant's to his question it was going. Turning back to Fitz she smiled. "Have you thought of sending out messengers to all the scholars in all the lands with the symbols asking them if any of them know?"

"There's wires in the wall?" Fitz looked at Yaelann in surprise. "How can you... Oh." He saw the brother's glowing hand, and grumpily went back to looking at his own portion of the wall. "Um, I'm not sure. I couldn't see so I didn't even know it was there. I need time to come up with a hypothesis..." He rolled back, sat down and hugged his knees as he looked at the picture stories he'd already memorized.
"What a shame. At least you have the books though, that is a start." he nodded. "I would if my father let me have access like that." Fitz grumbled, going back to tracing the small symbol with his finger.

Looking down at his glowing hand and then back at Fitz Faelann frowned his brows in confusion. why would he be grumpy when Faelann cast a spell? Did he not already know that it was their blood right to have magic? Every one of the royal family had magic, that was the way it had been for century's now. granted some of them were so weak that it really did not matter if they had it or not but they still could at least light a candle.
He pulled his hand away from the wall and looked at it then looked at the prince. suddenly something in him seemed to snap and he wanted to go over and comfort the young prince about not having magic. It was not all that it was said to be. so many thought that magic would make life easier but Faelann always wished that he could be the one without the magic. It always acted out at the wrong moment, or it was all used up when he needed it. "you know m...." he realized that Fitz might not believe him if he told him now that it was not that great, quickly he changed his words. "my brother might be able to send out requests for information on the symbols."
kneeling down Yalann wrapped her arms around Fitz and smiled. "Sadly the books are not as old as this place is. you have more here covering the early times then we have for the middle times in books. Reaching out she gently touched his hand as he traced the small symbol's. "I and my brother are sorry if we have caused you pain, it was not our intent to remind you of a painful subject." standing she looked to her brother and gave him a questioning look. she had not felt this strongly about the prince till only a moment ago and then it was not really her feelings?
<Brother dear?> she did not need to say more before he answered her unasked question.
<I am sorry sister, it is strange that I wanted to do that.> He bowed his head to his sister. <and I thank you for what you have done for us...him....me.> she tried to understand the confusion her brother was feeling at this moment. He had gone from hating this young man to wanting him to not be in pain. Gently she squeezed Fitz again in comfort.

"If he would be happy to do that, it would be great. The more knowledge the better." Fitz smiled slightly, and smiled a bit more when Yalann wrapped her arms around him. It was awkward but it felt nice. "Um? Magic right? You're referring to my uh, yeah. Lack of magic. It's not your fault sorry." She squeezed him again. "You know uh you don't have to... This is quite a jump from just a little while ago not wanting to drop titles. Maybe you're a bit tired from the journey here?" He was little confused, surely he didn't look that sad over a little lack of magic? Fitz was normally good at not letting it show.

"that is alright Prince Fitz, I just felt like you needed a hug." Yalann said giving her brother a dirty look. What ever was going on with him she really did not want to be caught in the middle of it and the prince. Yet it looked like it would come down to her being caught in the middle. "And our brother would do anything we asked at this time...." she got a sheepish smile as she continued. "Well almost anything. he would not call of this wedding engagement if asked to. Father has made it quite clear that we are to make this work or come home..." Realizing that saying they should come home on their shields was not the right princessesly thing to be saying so she tuned back to looking at the art work. Moving down the row of art work she smiled.
"you may be right Prince Fitz I may be a bit more tired then I had expected. if you would not mind having one of the servants show me to my chambers I am sure my brother would love to spend some time talking history with you." Smiling sweetly at her brother she stood and waited for a servant to show her where she was to go. something about the way her brother now stood made her wounder if there was not another person who could make the marriage work.<Be gentle brother.>
Faelann sighed and watched as his sister tried to make a quick exit from the company. It would fit that she would get the perfect excuse yet he did not have the same one. He could not claim being tired from such a long journey since it had been an easy travel compared to the company marches he had been doing last spring in the mud. <what are we to talk about sister of mine? I don't know him and he dose not like me.> gingerly he bit his lower lip not realizing he did so. It was a nervous tic that he had picked up from his nurse when he was younger. Some of his lovers had found it cute and child like, showing that there was a human behind the armor he presented to the world.

"Alright then. And please, it was a joke, please call me Fitz." He half smiled. His brother wasn't as nice as theirs sounded, and he was a little envious of that but it didn't really matter. At Yalann's request, he stood up and signalled to a servant who came and bowed before gesturing for Yalann to follow them. "I hope you have a good rest, and I'll see you at dinner?" He stood next to her with a bright smile.

Sighing she fallowed the servant up through the many passages that offered many different pieces of art before she reached the room that he had set aside for her. part of her wondered if he would have a room set up from her brother as well or if they would share this suite of rooms. slowly she walked around the room trailing her fingers over the plush fabrics around the room. she had not expected to find some of the really nice stuff that was in the room. but then this was supposed to be trying to woo her for marriage. smiling she walked into the bed room and flopped onto the bed.
Faelann watched his sister walk away and felt like he was falling into a dark hole where he would never find an escape. "what history do you enjoy? I want to know about the old ones but I also would like to know about what caused our country to fight." slowly he tapped the wall trying to think of what he could say that would change this princes mind about who he was. after a few moments of quite he talked again. "I am sorry if I have been cold, to long have I fought against your country... to long have I header story's of the vile things that your people sapposable did."

Fitz also watched the princess walk away hoping she would find the room waiting for her to her liking, and took a deliberate moment. When he finally did answer Faelann he didn't look at him. "I enjoy history of buildings. If they happen to come with the any other subjects of knowledge that;s just a happy coincidence." Which was the truth. While there were some points of history that intrigued him, he mostly only really searched for history pertaining the creation of a building. He took another moment of what to say to the apology. "I understand why you act that way, honestly, for me to not forgive such behaviour would be awfully harsh and uncivilised of me." He looked at Faelann, once again straightly distracted by his intense, violet eyes. He really did look like his sister, or did his sister look like him? "But maybe you will understand that, that is the exact reason why your hostility leads me to be doubtful of you. And perhaps you will forgive me of that." Fitz wasn't quite sure what to do, and now that he didn't have to impress someone specifically he felt his earlier tiredness from his travels coming back to him. "If you don't need anything, I'm also actually feeling weary and would like to return to my room. You could inspect the palace a little more or ask my servants any questions you like but I feel I must retire, if anything to get myself cleaned up."

At first Fitz not looking at Faelann hurt him a bit, he had been ready to spend all the time looking at his sister yet he would not look at him. Did the knowledge of how he had killed many of Fitz people make it so he could not look at him? Was there something else that he did not know about that bugged Fitz. maybe it was the uncanny resimbalince that he had to his sister that was causing him to turn away from him. "I would enjoy speaking to you of the castles along the border of our lands and their history. I spent some time in many of them that I have learned a bit of their history." He tried to make his voice gentle and kind, to drive out the War commander's growl from it.
"what is it you doubt of me? it is that I can become a tamed beast that will not turn on you in the night to kill you and all your men?" frustration and annoyance filled his voice as he fought to control his anger at this man. what about him made Faelann want his understanding and compassion? what was with this new way of thinking that seemed to drive him in two directions. Seeing the prince start to melt Faelann started walking the way his sister had. It only made sense that Fitz suite would be near hers. "Would you find it amiss if I were to ask to look over your rooms for assassins? It is not that I do not trust your people but that I do not trust my own to not try that." Protectiveness, where was this protectiveness coming from? he wondered to himself.
Reaching out for his sister he could feel that she had fallen asleep quickly. he shook his head at the thought that she would be that tired even when they had not traveled that far today. "Did my father send word that I was coming or am I to sleep in my sisters Suite?"

"Perhaps we can discuss more about the castles at dinner." It would be comfier and everyone would have rested more. Fitz was a little taken back by Faelann's accusations and it showed on his face. "I didn't say that I, ugh." Fitz felt a headache coming on and put his hand to his forehead. "If you want to check over things you may, but don't mess with anything you don't have to." This trust was obviously coming from the fact Fitz knew Faelann wanted nothing more than to protect his sister, and if what she said before was true they both wanted to end the war. There was no other explanation right.
"I did get word that a sibling would be accompanying her, we do have a separate room ready." Fitz thought for a moment. "Unless you want to stay with her? We could arrange that if you, argh, like." The head ache was definitely starting to come on and it was slowing his sense down.

Silently Faelann kicked himself for causing Fitz to go on the defensive. He was trying to understand this man not set up the next war. Seeing him reach for his head Faelann's eyes brighten. "Do you have something for that headache? If not I may have some tea that will aid in getting rid of it." he wanted to be helpful not cause him pain. A small part of his own mind seem to be also developing a headache with how quick his dislike of this man had changed. That tiny part kept screaming out for him to stop and really look at who he was flirting with.
"I only wish to make sure your safe. I was not allowed to bring only my hand picked people and I know that there are some within my army that would see you dead before you were married to my sister. They would never act out against her, they know it would be hard to take her without lose of life but you..." Did he really need to remind this young prince how deadly one of the Assassins of the Guild could be? Had he not heard of the death of his fathers commander thirteen years ago behind the lines by miles as he road back to the kings palace? "I should not need to disturb to much of your stuff to check for killers." He smiled reassuringly.
"No my sister and I gave up years ago sleeping in the same room. I have my interests that would keep her up and she has hers." He smiled thinking of how his last lover would have kept half the tower up as they enjoyed each other if any one had slept there. As it was his father had taken him aside days later to tell him that his lover had to go before it became known throughout the full kingdom that he had taken his commander to bed. "I just wish to make sure that I was not going to cause more work for your staff at this time." Walking up to Fitz he jerked his head in the direction of the stairs. "shall we go your highness?"

"Its alright I get these a lot." Well, I got them more as a kid. Just another thing that's wrong with me. Fitz put a hand against the wall to keep himself stable. "Tea might be good though." Fitz was never one to reject a helping hand, even if it made his father think he was a little weak for it. "And honestly I don't mind you checking things out, hopefully your men behave well. I hope mine behave well. Generally they don't want to bring another season of war so." He controlled his breathing again. "That's fine, you have a room prepared. Just give me a minute to find my feet again." He breathed heavily through his nose. It felt like it was turning into a migraine.

A worried look crossed Faelanns face as he watched Fitz brace himself against the wall trying not to fall. This was not the usual headaches that he had seen before, and now he wondered if he would have a strong enough tea to aid with the headache. "How often do you get them?" He spoke softly hoping that his voice would not add to the pain Fitz was feeling. In this it did not matter if he was one of the "enemy" or not, no may should have to suffer through pain like this. offering his hand to aid him in walking if he needed it Faelann waited, he could call the tea from the bag to what ever hot water they could get brought to the princes chamber.
"I would think that it was the same with my people yet there are some that have lived their whole life in war and now fear that peace will leave them with nothing to do, and no way to pay for their enjoyments." As Fitz tried to control his breathing Faelann became more worried for him and his health. He had never seen a man become this weak in so short of time. "Is there a medicine man or woman that I can send for, for you? you do not seem to be doing so well." all thoughts of his room and checking Fitz room lost in the worry over this man and the concern that some one had slipped him poison.
thinking back on their time in the courtyard he tried to remember if his men had been anywhere near the prince at any time. Finding no thought of one being close enough to poison him he sighed. At least it was not his men that might have tried to kill him, but was Fitz men really to be trusted at not wanting a war again?

"Every once and a while. I just have to, lie down, for a bit." Fitz ignored the offered support for now and continued by himself (aided by the wall) in the direction his own room was. "I don't really need anything except, except to rest." And probably stop talking. That would probably help too. Usually, these head aches aren't this strong though. Fitz stumbled over his own feet and barely managed to stop himself from lurching forward. "This is, strange." He frowned. Maybe he ate something off before he left?

Faelann fallowed along trying to think of what to do to help this young man that now seemed to be getting sicker and sicker as the second passed. Each time Fitz seemed to stumble Faelann had to stop himself from picking him up and carrying him the rest of the way. Rest might be a good thing for you but I am not to sure. he thought, worry filling his mind. while it may not have been one of his men could it have been one of Fitz own men? looking around he tried to think where in this beautiful place they might hide their healers. Then his fear happened.
As he lurched forward Faelann reacted on instinted and forced him to fall into Faelann's arms."I am sorry your highness but I don't think it wise for you to keep moving on your own." He moved smoothly through the halls as he looked for the princes rooms and for a servant to aid him in fetching a doctor. "I don't think this is just your headache's, are you sure that some one would not want to poison you?"

When Fitz was picked up he didn't struggle. He was starting to get a little more than disorientated. "Well just as long as you don't drop me." Faelann felt a lot stronger than he looked. "I'm sure a lot of people would like to poison me haha." For a minute he forgot he was being carried and was confused when he tried to walk but nothing happened. "I wouldn't even be able to name them if I used both of my hands." Fitz spent the next few minutes trying to count how many people he knew to see if he need more than his toes as well.

As Fitz's confusion seemed to grow Faelann growled in anger. these were all signs of poison and he was not trained in how to deal with magic, that was his sisters area of study. <Yalann!> he mental screamed at her only to get the equivalent of she was not to be disturbed. <YALANN SOULBINDER!!!> a muffled go away was his only answer. Now he was becoming worried that this was not going to last long if the prince died and he could do nothing about it. his sister was not going to wake any time within the next dragon moon if her reaction was anything to do with it.
Seeing a servant up ahead he moved faster holding the prince close to his chest. "You There!" his voice echoed a crossed the hallway startling the servant. "go find me the healer! your prince seems to be poisoned." Take what comes from the king, Fitz's father, Faelann had to save Fitz. Looking down at him as the servant scampered off he whispered. "don't you dare die on me, I just found you."

"Poor servant. You'll have to apologise later." Fitz yawned. He realised that Faelann was pretty comfy and well, he was a little bit tired. He yawned again, trying to roll over like he would in a bed and almost falling out of Faelann's arms before being caught again. "You know this would be comfier if I could move a little more." Fitz said before he broke into a fit of coughing and spluttering.

as the servant ran off Faelann found the door he was looking for, around it lay a simple spell of protection set to the prices dna. grabbing his hand Faelann pushed it into the door gently and it opened. Looking around for a Place to set the prince he found a fainting couch under a spelled window. who ever had set the spells had known what they were doing and had done it well. h smiled at the thought that only one that had come here with the prince would have been able to get past the spell with some of his hairs. "I do not think I need to apologies if it is a matter of life and death..." he held Fitz as he coughed, making sure that nothing caught and went down into his lungs. what ever this poison was he had never encountered it before and that worried him.
Where had the prince encountered this and was it something new that there was no cure for? After laying the prince down he looked around the room, moving tapestries and curtains, looking under desks and checking pillows for poisoned needles. He knew that it was a dumb move as the prince already seemed to be dieing of something but he did not want to risk him getting hit with another poison if he did get better. No one was ever going to say that he did not protect those that he had been charged by his brother to protect. A small part of him wondered why it had been his brother that had asked him to keep an eye on Fitz.

"Its... Its just a head ache..." Fitz frowned. It was getting a little harder to breathe. It was comfier on the couch but not as warm and that sent Fitz into a bout of shivering.
A fumbling servant called for Jufrey, mumbling something about the prince.
"Well speak up I can't understand a thing you're saying." She growled and servant started fidgeting even more.
"Well, the prince, miss, he's uh, been poisoned... I think...That's what the other pri-"
"Our prince could have been poisoned, and here you are bumbling about it like he just got a small stomach bug??" Jufrey stood up from her work desk, sent a glare to the servant who cowered in reply, gathered up her skirt about her and stared her fast pace trek to the prince's chambers.

Looking back at Fitz as he finished his check Faelann cursed under his breath as he hurried back over to Fitz. Along the way he grabbed a piece of clothe that turned out to be a cloak and tossed it over Fitz. "this is not just a head ache." Something at the back of his mind seemed to poke him trying to get him to remember something that was important to his survive. the sight of the fire, small in the hearth, brought that thought forward. he had to keep the young prince warm for the shivers would drive the poison quicker through the blood stream.
"Forgive me this." lifting the Fitz onto his lap he wrapped the cloak around them both and cast a warmth spell on Fitz. His hands gently holding Fitz around the waist, Fitz's head resting on his shoulder. the feel of the prince's skin upon his sent sparks of fire up his nerves, his body reacting in ways he had not expected to feel about Fitz. "I hope that servant finds you a healer soon. I dont know what to do for you that will keep you alive." his voice filled with worry slowly faded off as a thought accrued to him.
closing his eyes Faelann took a deep breath and dropped into his magic. To him it was a warm pail purple colored pool, filled with light and beauty. I am not trained in this magic but you who are a part of me and my sister knows what you require for this. keep him alive so that he will live when a healer comes. With that he threw the magic free into Fitz knowing that it would not hold for over an hour. he also knew that until someone took Fitz's care from him.
