Logan snorted.

"Remind me t' introduce you to Hank," he said. "Closest one you'll see to a flying monkey." He was quiet for a moment. "Not all mutants are made equal, though. Gotta be careful with some of 'em."

"Same with humans," Ivy said stubbornly. "There are some humans that are stronger than others, and some that enjoy the pain of others." She shivered briefly.

"Not just that," Logan pointed out. "Some got a little somethin' extra, some got a lot somethin' extra. Depends on how merciful the universe felt that day."

Ivy shook her head a bit. "Well, I don't know about that, so I'll trust your judgment on that," she conceded. "Doesn't mean I'm going to treat anyone with extra suspicion until they deserve it."

Logan watched her for a moment.

"It's rare a human doesn't," he said finally. "Suppose I'm not used to it."

Ivy smiled faintly. "It's my policy not to make judgments until I know a person," she said quietly. "It's gotten me into trouble recently, but one jerk isn't going to make me change my whole life."

"Not a bad policy to have," Logan admitted. "That one creep didn't deserve you, I don't think."

Ivy smiled thinly. "He didn't, but it took me far too long to realize that."

"Well, good riddance to 'im," Logan said.

That made Ivy relax a bit. "You know just that much knowledge would be enough to have some people looking at me like I'm dirt," she said, her voice mild.

"I've known a few charismatic people," Logan said. "Not all of 'em turned out to be good. I know how it is."

Ivy nodded, a little more relaxed as she settled back. The waitress headed over to get their orders a few moments later.

Logan, predictably, ordered something with meat, although he forwent the beer in favor of soda. No sense in having beer on the first date, even if he couldn't get drunk.

This time, Ivy opted for pasta with chicken and soda. She did grin a bit when she noticed they both ordered root beer.

"Good stuff, root beer."

"Yep," Logan replied with a bit of a grin. "Not somethin' I had growing up, so I like it now."

Ivy nodded. "It was my dad's favorite, so I guess I got the taste for it from him." She grinned a bit.

"Man with good taste," Logan said, nodding.

Ivy smiled a bit. "He is. But he's got a terrible sense of humor, Mum always complains that I got my humor from him. We'd make the worst jokes back and forth, or when he was driving we'd label people with points for the difficulty of hitting them."

Logan snorted. Oh yes, he could definitely end up liking this girl, and he knew several others who would get along just fine with her.

"There are much, much worse things to get from your pops than a sense of humor," he said.

"Oh I know." Ivy smiled. "I don't mind. Mostly it's just my mom, and even that I'm sure is at least some acting."

"Sounds like you're close with your folks," he said. "Good for you. Lotta people aren't, nowadays."

"I am close with them." Ivy grinned. "I thought that was normal, to be close with your parents and have a good relationship with your family. Up until I got to college."

"I was kinda the opposite, growin' up," Logan admitted. "Family was kinda dysfunctional in the extreme, an' I had no idea what a proper family was till a long time after I left."

Ivy nodded sympathetically. "Unfortunately it seems to work that way a lot more often than I realized," she agreed.

"Somethin' you get used to," Logan replied. "Not a good thing, but you do."
