Logan nodded and waited for her to finish cooking.

Kate grinned and just got up, bringing her things with her and moving over to his table.

"This is what I'm reading," she said, handing the book over to him. "Words of Radiance. It's the second book, and both so far are truly epic books, easily a thousand pages each with at least a dozen main characters. Complexity isn't quite on par with, say, Game of Thrones, but it's up there."

It didn't take much longer for Ivy to put a plate in front of him.

"I've got water, some soda, beer..."

"Interesting," Steve said, looking at the book. "I haven't read Game of Thrones yet but it's on my list."

Logan was tempted to ask for a beer, but that didn't seem right for such an early date.

"Anything's fine," he said.

"You should," Kate said, grinning and ruffling her wings a bit. "Though be forewarned: the author has no problem whatsoever making you love a character and then killing that character off. No problems at all."

Ivy nodded and got them both some water. "There. Now we're all ready." She grinned a bit and settled in to her dinner.

"I've heard that. Natasha swears about those books." Steve shook his head. "When she was reading them, anyway. Now she just swears for the next one."

"Looks great," Logan said as she sat down.

"Next one's not written yet," Kate said, grinning. "Number six. That's the entire reason I picked these ones up, they're long enough and full of enough promise to keep me entertained."

"Thanks." Ivy smiled shyly. She wasn't used to cooking for anyone but Kate.

"Picky reader?" Steve asked with a bit of a grin.

With that, Logan dug into the dinner. He paused for a moment in slight surprise; it was actually really good for something that seemed to be slapped together. He liked it a lot. His wings rustled a bit in pleasure.

"Voracious, more like," Kate admitted, turning a bit pink. "I read a lot, and I tend to read it quick."

Ivy flushed a little at that but ate her own dinner a little more calmly. She was kind of proud of herself for throwing that together.

Steve laughed a bit. "Yeah, I get that. I've been reading all the history books I can get my hands on recently."

"It's really good," Logan commented when he paused for some water.

"History books?" Kate asked, looking at him curiously.

"Thanks," Ivy said, her wings rustling a bit in pleasure and her feathers fluffing up a little. "I'm glad you're enjoying it."

"Yeah. I, uh, kind of missed a lot of US History, so now I'm catching up." Steve shrugged.

"Missed a lot of US history?" Kate repeated. She raised an eyebrow. "How do you just miss chunks of history? Like a class or something?"

"Yeah, skipped a few classes," Steve said. "Gaps in my education. That sort of thing."

Kate studied him for a moment and then nodded.

"Alright," she said. "I might still have a couple textbooks from college, if you want to borrow them."

"I'll let you know if I run out of material," Steve said with a grin. "So far I've still got a few in my room waiting to be read."

"Alright," Kate said, grinning a bit. "If that friend of yours needs more reading material, point her at this author." She held up the book she had been reading. "Good enough substitute for now."

Steve nodded. "I will. I'm sure she'll appreciate that."

Kate smiled and settled into her seat.

"So what were you drawing?" she asked, glancing at the sketchbook and back.

"Hmm? Oh." Steve passed it around so she could see. "I have this habit of drawing people around me." This one was of a couple in the window seat across from him.

Kate blinked when she saw the page, and her feathers fluffed a little bit.

"Oh wow," she said, looking from the page to the couple and back. "Steve, this is really good. Do you do this professionally?"

Steve shook his head, his feathers ruffling.

"No, this is just informal. I kind of do it for fun." He shrugged.

"You're really good," Kate said. "You should think about doing it professionally. You'd probably make good money."

Steve shook his head. "I don't know if I could," he said. "This is just kind of for fun. Besides, most artists don't do very well unless they work somewhere with salary."

"I still think you're really good," Kate said. She grinned. "Maybe I could see more of your drawings sometime?"

"Sure," Steve agreed after a moment. "I could show you some more sometime. I've got a few more sketch pads laying around somewhere."

"Sounds great," Kate said, smiling. Her wings rustled a little. "So what brings you out here this late, anyways?"
