Yeah, I've been considering the terranium option for quite some time. Still need somewhere to put this 3ft tank though, lol. I might put it on the windowsill in the stairwell. That window faces north so plants don't get cooked there, and it's a deep sill, the tank would fit. Just got to clean all the limescale off from round the bit at the top where the lid sat, it's pretty crusty right now. D:

I still have the majority of the gravel that went on the bottom of the tank when I had fish in it. the terranium option is the most sensible thing to do with this tank. But whether I'll actually do it...

Vinegar is also good on fries.

I say this as a person who doesn't put vinegar on fries as often as he'd like.

Why am I talking about food?

A couple weeks ago I had malt vinegar on a basket of house-made fries at my favorite pub. I have Scottish blood, which is about 20% vinegar as it is, so I'm the sort to buy a bag of salt and vinegar potato chips and dip them in vinegar due to not being strong enough. My point is, yes, vinegar on potatoes. Vinegar on everything. The more it burns, the better.

Scottish blood? Really? Well I have Irish blood which explains my obsession with potato related products and why I have a problem with potato chips. For srs. I literally eat potato chips every day.

Though, I only ever get vinegar with fries at fairs. It's the only time and I love it. Smother it with vinegar and salt is like the perfect treat for me. Nom nom nom.

Dipping fries into mayonnaise is good too!

Potatoes are everything to me. I have to watch myself or else I'll eat only potatoes for an entire day. Probably not the best for my nutrition.

I had a peanut butter sandwich after blistering my tongue with sea salt and vinegar chips to today. It was a fascinating texture experience.

there was no taste, only texture. It was unnerving at first, but actually really unique and fun.

That's really the only thing I dislike about salt and vinegar chips; you can't taste anything else for a day. I get that, to a lesser extent, with some straight alcohols. There's a reason people pair wine with food over whiskey - you drink straight whiskey, you're not tasting anything for a bit.

Somehow I'm just not surprised that this has turned into a conversation about food.

I want lots of stuff! As much as I would want to design and decorate my own house, the fact of there being so many options basically means I'll get nothing done.
I like modern and quaint, lots of light and low light, carpet and wood, etc... orz
I can't decide on a theme or figure out how to make multiple themes work.

I can't really taste anything after I drink wine either...

I have a hard time describing what I like in decor, but I found this pinterest when I was looking for something the other day:
https://www.pinterest.com/wrenwren/d...s-homey-homes/
Minus the doilies, something like this:

I have widely differing tastes in decor too, and living in rented accomodation I don't/can't do anything about the fundamental appearance of my rooms anyway, so all the rooms have magnolia walls, and every room bar the kitchen and living room has the same terracotta carpet. (living room and kitchen have gross brown carpet).

I've found from my wanderings through Tumblr and Pinterest that I like:
  • old things
  • wooden floors
  • white walls as a backdrop to lots of colour
  • faded vintage elegance
  • things that are mismatched but complimentary
  • wooden furniture painted in cool colours
  • more rounded/vintage/elegant looks, not comtemporary/modern
  • 60s/70s retro is generally ugly to me
  • relaxed rather than fancy.

Here's some examples of the kind of rooms I wish were in my home! Two very different styles, but I'd like them both, thanks! =3

That sounds like a not fun place to live in, Jelly. I do like the pictures you've posted, though! Those places look very inviting. :U

Yeah, inviting is what counts, isn't it? I hate houses that look like show homes and you're afraid to sit down. I also have a dislike for symmetry when it comes to things within a room, so when people get obsessive about needing matching things on the mantlepiece, and bedside cabinets, and end tables and so on...and when they extend that to all the soft furnishings in the room having to be the same fabric...and all the wooden stuff having to be a matching suite...

I know I'm in a minority here, but I really hate that. >< Your home's meant to reflect who you are, not the nearest homewares store.

Lmao, Jelly, that's just who they are.

Those pictures look nice! Biggs's too~
Although Jelly's picture of the bedroom, that one looks/reminds too much of old people or something. I think it's the yellow shade of the picture though. Well, and those curtains. XD
Biggs's has the teeniest bit of too much clutter for me. It reminds me of Florida rooms though, which I like.

Your kitchen has carpet?? XD

My kitchen has thick carpet, it's gross.

Old people... xD I like the vintage vibe of that bedroom, so I guess that figures. :P

Pinterest has helped me better focus and realize my tastes, too. I'll think "I like a million different things!" then scroll through my home decorating boards and realize that what I like could actually be condensed into 2-4 different styles. Iku, you'd really be surprised at what styles you can mix and match. Going 100% on any one style/theme looks nice for magazines, but it's never that nice to live in. Just buy stuff you like and you'll probably end up with a pretty cute room! Even very polar opposites, like vintage and modern, can mix. You just need a few common elements - like maybe all wooden furniture being the same shade of brown, all cool colors, or something like that.

I can't wait until I have more than just one bedroom to decorate. But I'm afraid I'll suffer from the same problem as Jelly - renting, and thus not being able to change much. I'll be alright if I can at least hang things on the walls, but I just hate white walls (they're okay in bathrooms and kitchens), and that's pretty standard for rentals. That or beige. Don't get me started on beige. I'd be the tenant trying to convince my landlord to let me paint the walls at least a different neutral. Not going to ask for anything crazy that would alienate future renters. Just can I at least do a nice gray?

@Jelly: Oh gosh.. XDD That is gross. I've never actually seen in person a home with a carpeted kitchen. Bathroom though, yeah. Which is just as weird.

Vintage was the word I was looking for, yes. I'm not a huge fan of vintage looks. Vintage items, maybe, but not as a dominant thing.

@Cherry: Yeah, I figure that there's a way to have the different styles I want that wouldn't look horrible. It's just finding that out. Furniture is pricy though and I'm a bum when it comes to painting or refurbishing thing. I think I'm just going to resign myself to the fact that what I like is stuff. And as long as it's somewhat organized, I'll be good. XD

I've had white walls and beige walls of different shades. I've always wanted to paint the walls something, but never got around to it. In the homes I've rented at least, we were allowed to paint the walls so long as we repainted them to the original or neutral color. Although those were houses. I don't know if were allowed to paint the walls in the apartment. P:

I'm sure I could paint the walls here, as the guy who used to live in the second flat painted his, but I'm too tight to do it xD My mindset is, why should I give my landlord free decorating!

But aaawww snaap! I found something I wants! Uh.. generally. Not a particular thing, a general thin-- yeah.
A loft bed!

There are some neat ones out there.

Loft beds are cool, it has to be said. I'd have loved one as a kid, because of the hidey-hole you can create underneath them, it's like a starter kit for a blanket fort!

I can't decide on what type I like though. One with storage underneath, or a desk that comes out, or a seating area.... Choices!
