Here's some pictures of what I actually like... in the sense that they are from my actual bedroom:

the top of one of my bookcases

I found this image I took a few years ago to show Cherry a waterfall style night table I had refinished. That area is more or less the same. Different bedding and a tray on the table are the only noticeable differences. The lamp was my grandmother's.

I adore that lamp, Biggles! Still got the original wiring too, I see!

It's actually part of a set, but my mother has the other. And yes! original wiring. I'm a detail person, so something like that means a lot to me.

I like how original wiring looks. I have an old electric fire that I bought home from work.

It's from the '40s I think, and still works! It was donated into the project but something like this is illegal to sell from a shop (you can sell it privately) because it doesn't comply with today's safety regulations. For this it being because of the size of the gaps between the bars shielding the heating elements. If you can fit your finger between the bars on a fire it can't be sold. But this had the original wiring too. They changed it for modern stuff and I wish they'd left the old cable on there. :(
That looked like this, but black with little white Vs.

So I got to bring it home because it was only going to be scrapped otherwise, I was thrilled! But one of the biggest problems there was when we got donated the contents of some little old lady's house when she'd died, and all her lamps needed rewiring because both the wire and the plug wasn't legal any more.

Can I just say how much I love that cast iron fireplace insert? In my ideal world, I'd have a fireplace that I could fit one in, a nice victorian one

Once at an antique store I saw a display that had an old fireplace filled with string lights. A bit twee, maybe, and it certainly provides no warmth, but I loved it.

Fireplaces are great, apart from the draught >< There's approximately one metric ton of bubblewrap stuffed up the chimney of mine, and cold air still gets around it in the winter. D:

In a similar vein to this wallpaper site is DENY Designs. They come up with pretty prints and then put them on just everything. Check out the duvet covers.

Oh god... there's just... so many prints. Well over 7000. I wouldn't know how to choose.
I did like these, though
*The Waterbuck
*Midnight Picnic
*Endless Vines
*My Secret Deer Forest
*Endangered Species Preservation
*Looking for Butterflies
*Wheat Fields

I think what I gravitate towards would be bedding or wall art. And I recently bought a bedding I love, and if I'm going to spend $130 dollars on wall art, I already have something in mind.

What does your new bedding look like?

I'm really lusting over bedding right now, tbh. I've forbidden myself from buying any since I'm going to be moving out in a year and hopefully upgrading to an adult-sized* bed then. No sense spending money on sheets and comforters when they're going to be too small soon enough. It got bad enough that I bought my boyfriend a comforter since I can't get one for myself.

* as in not a twin bed. I do not sleep in a crib.

I have a single bed :D
Here they don't paste wallpapers much D: it's usually concrete, and the paper is considered to be hot so they don't actually use it. But there are new homes which do have wallpapers now though :)
I love this couch at our sitting:

This is it. It's organic cotton.

We're in the same boat. I want a bigger bed to go along with my adult life. I'm looking to buy a vintage brass double bed frame.

That's a pretty couch, Lexadis! It looks very comfy. I was fantasizing about taking a nap on it before I even saw your comment about sleeping on it.

Biggs - Ooh, pretty! Very you. And yeah, one of those old brass frames is just what I want too! Though I'd also be fine with a new one done in that style if it meant it wouldn't be rickety.

That looks William Morris-like, Bigs, is it? I only have 2 duvet covers >< One's a set I've had for over 20 years and amazingly still like, and a Cath Kidston one that I got on Ebay (it was still £42/$70 just for the duvet cover, even second hand D: ) Though it was new really, it had never even been taken out of its original packaging. This design called circus flowers.

I love it, but I have to admit to never having ironed this cover yet, it's thick 100% cotton and comes out of the washing machine creased like there's no tomorrow, but I'm not struggling with ironing a kingsize duvet cover. D< My other one's polycotton so any creases drop out of it once it's been on the bed for a few hours.

I bought some nice 400 thread count white Oxford pillowcases and dyed them complimentary shades to go with the Cath Kidston cover. One pair yellow, one light green and light blue (I use 3 pillows at once). I've also got some lovely vintage linen pillowcases in a fresh spring green shade, with hand embroidered daisies in the corners, and they go nicely with this cover. I'm unlikely ever to get any more bedding, I see so little that I like that it's ridiculous.

It's actually just a Target design Though I do have some William Morris and Liberty print things in my possession. I liked the unusual shading/coloring and print of this motif. It really is somewhere between a floral and a natural history illustration. A somewhere you don't see done very often or indeed so well.

One time I found a bunch of great 70s print fabrics to share with you guys, but my browser crashed and I lost them I think you really would have loved some of them, Jelly.

Edit: There was a range, but something like this was not out of the ordinary

Haha, amusingly enough I have a fair amount of hate for 70s designs xD That's a decade which should be flame-throwered in my opinion because I find the majority of things from that era to be super ugly. That pattern you show there is a really good example actually, because the pattern itself is actually very nice! I love both poppies and polka dots, but the colours used there are gross to me. That could be so nice if it wasn't ugly 70s shades.

It's interesting that you mention Liberty; I have a real love/hate thing going on with them, because some of their patterns I totally adore, and others I think are completely vile, lol. But I've always really liked how one person can absolutely love something that another totally hates, or vice versa. I just get frustrated when some people get butthurt because someone else doesn't like something they like. As if differing personal tastes are some kind of insult towards them.

I bought a clock in T. K. Maxx, which I'm assuming is the same kind of store as the US chain with a very similar name. I was there with my mum and sister and showed them this clock with a certain amount of excitement as I loved it. Both of them clearly didn't know what to say because it didn't appeal to either of them. I just laughed and pointed out that they didn't need to like it as it was me who was buying it, just be happy that I'd found something that I really liked. It sits on my mantlepiece with my cards from Seito and Iro. =3

Even though I have a much better clock now. This was was my greatnan's, my mum found it in a drawer when she was packing up my nan's things after she went into a nursing home. She said at the time that she'd never seen it before (neither had I) and had no idea where nan got it from. Now she says it was one of Greatnan's wedding presents and it was in her bedroom...and you can guarantee that it I remind her of what she previously said she'd deny it strenuously, but whatever. Nan kept it put away because it gained ridiculously (20 minutes per day), mum was going to get rid of it because of this so I asked if I could have it because it's a lovely clock. I've got it to run properly. Mum hasn't asked for it back, thankfully!

I largely agree with you on the seventies thing - I used to say I don't think I could have lived through them in the US. It's actually only the fabrics that I fully embrace (all the poppies!) - and a lot of the colors are terrible, though I thought I'm getting more ammerlated to some of them.

I decided to fool around on etsy after posting that, looking for more, and I came across this:

I'm convinced we had this as an extra sheet set when I was a kid. I don't know if it was my mom's, or something we got from my grandmother, because it definitely came into the family before my time. I don't feel like it is something my mom would have bought, but then it was the seventies, and she did buy other questionable stuff.

I also found this on there, which I have! It's served me well:

I love the wood that your gran's clock is made of. I love woodgrain, and the color is so nice

That case is rather nice, I do like tapestry, but so often what I see has pastoral scenes on it, which doesn't appeal to me much. Same as carpet bags, I adore the idea of those, but rarely like the design on them. Having said that, this one's wonderful, but then it's an antique one.

It is lovely wood on nan's clock, isn't it, sadly I've no idea what it is. It's got that walnutty burl, but I don't think it's dark enough to be walnut...hmm, having looked on Google, not all walnut is that dark so maybe it is. It was made in France for the British market, or at least that's my assumption from it saying "Made in France" inside it, not Fabriqué en France.

Etsy is definitely a place full of those déjà vu moments isn't it? I often see the hideous fish vase that my nan had one of, and mum still has one of, and I always hated, lol. Seems pretty much every household had one. Blech!

Haha, a gurgling jar! Those have caught on here, recently. I got one as a gift a few years back, in sort of a lime green. I want to say it sounds uglier than it is, but I'm not sure that is true.

I feel the same way about tapestry. I love carpet bags! Here in the U.S. when I go looking for them, I only find tapestry bags -which is fine on its own, but people don't seem to know the difference, which is irksome and means a lot of dead ends. That one appears to be made of an actual low ply carpet, woot. Is it for sale? Do you think those handles are made of real leather? They probably are if they are antique :/

Yeah, they're definitely going to be leather on an antique, aren't they. I don't have a link to the actual store that was selling that, but it was probably cached anyway. Says me speaking from bitter experience when it comes to finding things online!

The only thing I liked about the hideous fish vase was the noise it made, lol. My mum's is the dark green one, but my nan's was a lighter and far more virulent shade. I hope their revival stays on your side of the pond, lol. Maybe you need to truly embrace the original ethos and make your own carpet bag? Although if you do, please make sure that you can produce a standard lamp from it, à la Mary Poppins. :)

I love your suitcase, Biggles. My grandma gave me a tapestry suitcase that she didn't need as much as I did at the time. It's cute enough, but it's more of an 80's floral... This isn't it, but it's a similar color palette:

Except the background on mine leans more maroon.

I love finding stuff I/my mother/my grandmother owns at antique shops. I can run over to it, see how much they're asking for it, and then laugh victoriously at not having to pay $20 for it.

My mum amused me recently, and made me mildly nervous for the future too, it has to be said. She said to me one day, "I know you like vintage things (points to you for figuring this out, Mum!), I was sorting out some things and found Greatnan's bed jacket, would you be interested in it? It's silk". NOOO. I remember this jacket very well, as I used to be made to wear it as a child whenever I was ill and made to stay in bed all day. Quite apart from the fact that I detest quilted anything, the associations this garment has for me are all bad ones! I don't want to be constantly reminded of horrible childhood illnesses. ><

So now I'm worried that mum's going to gift me with dubious items because in her mind if it's vintage, I'm going to like it. As she is very black or white with things like that. I think I'm finally getting it into her head that just because a thing is pink doesn't mean I'm automatically going to like it, but it's hard work. ><

@Jelly: Yeah, I'd love to have one made. Though it is harder to get a cost-friendly bespoke item in this area.

@Cherry: That bag sounds hot

I asked my mom about the sheet said, and she said yes, it was my grandmother's guest sheet set. And yes, that we probably still have it.

I found this on etsy too, and while I don't think it's going to go over big here, I love it:

This was on tumblr, but it's another great etsy fabric thingy:

And Jelly, if you ever find one of these, you now know who wants one:

Ooooh, I adore that moth print! I have at least four little zip bags like that, though, so I have absolutely no use for that bag. But man, do I wish I did. Or do I wish that they made something better suited to me with that fabric... Like a laptop sleeve, perhaps.

They have a moth print dress, Cherry. A moth print dress.
