I haven't been on Mene long but I can tell it's a very small community. I'm not sure if I like it or not, it's easier to talk to people because you run into them a lot on the forums but then again if you post something about something that well known you wont get too many people that know what you're talking about, plus less people comment on your stuff.
It's just kinda weird going from Gaia to Mene but I'm pretty sick of gaia so maybe it will be a good change.
What do you think of Mene's small community?

I personally like it much better. Because of the small community feel we get less spam and trolls. It's easier to build friendships with other users. There isn't the huge veil of anonymity just a tiny happy one where most people recognize your user name or your avi style. I dunno I think it's cozy.

Yea, that's understandable. It's just a little weird at first because of the slow rate in which the forum moves.

It is a big culture shock from Gaia, I know. If I can re-use an old analogy of mine, Gaia is the big city and we're a village. So it's very different, but if you can embrace those differences and not expect us to be the same a lot of people enjoy the change of pace.
You could say Gaia's like a super-stressful working week, and we're like going away to the seaside for the weekend. You spend all week in a perpetual state of tearing your hair out, then you escape for a few days and can unwind and relax and feel your blood-pressure go down. ><
I love that we've maintained the community feeling over the years, granted we're not as active as we used to be, but then none of the avatar sites are, Gaia included. That's just a natural downturn and it's happening to all these kind of sites. I really like that you get to get to know people on a more personal level on here. I really like how the users get to know me and the rest of the staff in the same way. Because there's not so many people that everyone is an anonymous nobody.
For those who prefer that anonymity then a smaller community probably isn't for them. But many find that feeling of community to be really nice :D And it's that feeling of community that keeps people here a lot of the time. Internet bonding, yo!

It's definitely something to get used to. The seasons doesn't help much either. Some kids are just starting spring break so they might be away vacationing. And then there are others who are going into finals (that would be people on the quarter system). And then others are falling into mid-terms. This month is just one of those awkward months where people are few and far between. Not to mention, it's still cold season and the weather this year has been insane!
Sometimes Mene's a tad faster than this and sometimes it's not. Really depends on the day and timing. For the most part, it doesn't get slower than this (usually).

... I thought the best analogy would be.
Gaia is a big city full of kindergartens, whilst Menewsha is a small village of retirees? old and wise. <33

At first when I came here.. I noticed how high the CIs in the market were... but when I went back to Gaia.. It broke my heart... I was like a middleman back then but now I am poor again... I like it here in Mene.. the prices doesnt go high and there are not many gold sinks or gold risers.. it's somewhat fair..

It's not something I had really thought about. I don't mind it here, but I find I'm more annoyed with the other users than anything. As with any community feel, you're bound to bump into the same person over and over and over and over and over and over again.
Plus the activity level dropped quite considerably, so it's a little boring.

I can understand that, althoug on Gaia I have quite a bit of gold because of the ride in prices. Its harder to get gold on here though. I'm a bit shy so I don't converse as much as i wish I did, even online.

I like it out of all the avatar forums I've been too Mene is the only ones that's held my attention. The people here are kind and even if you have a fight with someone it usually gets worked out. :D And the mods aren't out to get anyone because their friends told them too.

Yeah I don't know if it's like that still but I know some crazy things that happened with the mods in early days on Gaia. So long ago though.

I like mene a much better than many other communities I have been in =) You get to know people, like, really get to know them (I mean, not like their personal infos or anything but.. ) and no one is being bitchy (I've never come across anyone, is what I'm trying to say). And while the pace is slow, the calm atmosphere soothes me too. I have a hard time studying, and returning back and finding that not much things have changed drastically in a day or two, and the people discussing the same things (I'm not saying that there aren't new threads or anything! Just saying they are few!) ^-^ And.. I like the mene staff too, so friendly they are (unless you happen to see them with a hammer or something ). I apologize if I'm typing rubbish, I'm sleepy but this thread interested me.

This is definitely a small community, and I like jelly's analogy of Mene being like a village compared to Gaia's big city.
I loved Gaia when it had that small town feeling, and I held onto that love for a long time after it disappeared, but I finally couldn't take it anymore and transitioned to Mene full-time last year. I prefer the community vibe over the anonymous one, so I feel comfortable here. Not coincidentally, I just moved IRL from my college city back to my tiny hometown.
That said, I don't post every day, which I know contributes to the slowness of the site. In addition to liking small communities, I'm also a bit of a hermit. I like to imagine that my avatar has a little cottage on the outskirts of town, up on a ridge overlooking the sea, and she comes down into the town every few days to run errands.

Chex's cottage overlooking Menewsha town sounds nice. :D
I guess if Gaia was in the Meneverse it would be over there on the mainland, and would consider us island weirdos, but pfft

That would be so cool if we had a map of the avatar communities! Kind of like their world map for the Internet?
I didn't like gaia, mostly because of all the spamming and how hard I found it to find interesting people to talk to. I love how we are small enough to be well moderated. Also, I like pixeled avatars better than the tool shaded ones.

I started on Gaia 2005 or 2006 - it was a long time ago. Very large community even then and I was able to find a handful of people with similar interests, but the threads were frequently run by rather obnoxious individuals. The inception of the current standards of the marketplace and, at the time, supremely glitchy events drove me to consider Menewsha as an alternative when I saw an ad about it in 2007.
Met a lot of people here and felt welcomed in ways I did not on Gaia. Being older (NOT using a walker yet - but close!) I wasn't sure if I'd find people with similar interests here, but I did. Had to take a break a few years ago for a variety of very dry family stuff (sadly, no stints in jail although I'm sure some wondered) and came back when Jelly sent out an email about the St. Patrick's Day event.
Do you know what surprised me the most? Finding some of the same people I met when I was active here are still here. So, ask yourself this: Why are so many people still here for years even if the site looks a bit slow? The Fresh Meat thread has quite of few folks who are coming back right now.
Stick around for an event. They are fun and the threads are worth taking time to participate in even if they seem a bit random.

^ THIS!!
I love how there's people who have been here since 2007, and are still here. We've gotta be doing something right, even if it's just for some!
I honestly think the "bit random" thing is part of the appeal. Also, how in general it makes no kind of difference what your age is. If you're nice to talk to and don't behave like a jerk people are going to enjoy your company. Whether you're 13 or 63, makes no kind of difference on here.

I'm from 2007 also, and I agree with what Elmira said. I've occasionally gotten distracted from Mene due to life issues, but I keep coming back here. It's not just that its a cozy small community, but that it has stayed that way for years. Considering that we have less than a thousand active members at any given time, I think that's pretty impressive.
