In reality it's because it's mostly hounds and working dogs in the middle. I don't like noise (so no hounds for me) and I don't have the energy for a working dog.

Apparently there's a sterotype floating around that Koreans love to eat dogs. WRONG. They do, but it's not as huge of a thing as people make it out to be! And it's a special breed of dog raise don a farm.
