So glad to see some newbies. To be honest, I came back because of friends I had made in Mene that are now my facebook friends. And the Winter Event helped keep me here. I still don't tend to open emails from Mene or honestly much of anyone as I am just not an email person.

It's a really low proportion who does actually open the emails, it has to be said >< Inso told me some figure a couple of years back and it was something ridiculous. Can't remember what it was, just that it was ridiculous. That's why I do trollish things like offer people a free exclusive item, in the email. So only the people who actually read it know about it.
Then sit back and laugh at the WAHH from the people who binned the mail without reading it.
"If I'd known I was going to get an item I'd have read the mail! It's not fair!"
I love the twisted logic of complaints like that xD Trying to make out that it's my fault that they missed out on something through their own laziness.

It always used to go up above 1k during events, then gradually peter off to 900 or so, then go back up above 1k for the next event. But it never went up for V Day D: So just continued to go down.

Well, you've answered your own conundrum here, haven't you? Advertise a free item in the subject line and you'll get lots of people opening it. If I got an email from, say, Ernya (which I haven't been to in years but don't have any particularly ill feelings towards like I do with Gaia) offering me a free item in the email, I'd click it. That would then spur me to look around the site some and potentially get active again.

Cherry Who?:
Yep, you're totally right. But, my cussedness rears its head then and I don't want people to only log in for some FREE, I want people to learn to read our emails.
Really, I'm being way too idealistic, and I am fully aware of this, but I can't do much about my nature. .
And yay, we broke the 1k barrier!!

FREE can get active users from absent users, though! Embrace the FREE, Jelly. Embrace the FREE.
If you want something that's just eye-catching without FREE, though, I'd say prodding people for a response is good. Maybe targeting people with few posts and/or who haven't been on in a significant amount of time and asking them what it is about Menewsha they didn't like. Could net you some constructive criticism and might just remind people "oh yeah, that place exists." Most emails are going to make inactive people "well that can't really apply to me" as it'd sound like something intended for people who are active. But they know why they're inactive and can certainly answer that.

I was going to say we should nail down the term, but then again we are all about free spirits (no not the booze!! But hey free booze would get people to log in!)
And we should identify ourselves how we want?
Anyway just ask people Please? When it comes to being active?
How about real world freebie offers? Dominoes are on both sides of the pond, and give away free codes all the time, perhaps we can nab some of them?
I could probably get free tickets for the new diggerland being built in West Berlin U.S at Saharas Sams water park?!

For the most part if you keep it within the US, Canada (not Quebec, there are a bunch of laws keeping them from getting free stuff) and the UK you'll be legally good. The rest of the world has a mix and match system in place for goodies. I know for China you have to have a Chinese branch in order to send things.
As for logisitics though, you're gonna need a bigger budget and a bigger team. ^^;
