The fire in Oregon was started by a teenager being irresponsible with fireworks.
The area where the fire started is home to the very first developed campground in the U.S.
(Google Eagle Creek Campground and see pictures)
The fire has grown to 35,000 acres and is 11 percent contained.
I grew up in nearby Cascade Locks,...but I haven't had contact with anyone who still lives there in decades.
It is beautiful country there...I hope the get the fire controlled soon!

I read that a witness actually observed the teenager throwing a smoke bomb off the trail and into the canyon...then, moments later a fire had ignited.
The fact that the Columbia Gorge has been unseasonably hot and dry allowed the flames to race through the thick forest.
When the witness caught back up with the kid with the fireworks and his friends, she informed them that they had started a forest fire, and rheir response was "What do you want us to do about it now?" and the attempt3d to leave the area.
The witness informed the forest ranger who contacted state patrol...
The last I have read about the kid, he was 15 years old and hasn't been formally charged yet.
They still have the highway shut down in the area to avoid rocks and trees from falling on cars...and at one point they had the Columbia River closed to water vessels, but it has since been opened up for night travel.
Aircraft collects water from the river in huge buckets to dump on the fire.
So far I think only 4 homes and 4 outbuildings have burned...and only 1 of the homes was actually being lived in.
Kudos to the firefighters for their hard work!

it's so sad how people have no remorse for bad things they do.

And this is why you educate people about the dangers they can do.
The kids didn't think there was anything they could do after starting the fire.

Yeah. You'd think. Of course nowadays people are scared of the police so they don't call. With all that terrifying news lately.

33,000 acers of land out of control is a serious thing.
I hope no one lost their life in this tragedy.

More than 150 hikers were stranded in the area of the fire.
They contacted authorities who were able to drop them supplies and the hikers were instructed to overnight near tunnel falls...then they were instructed to hike 14 miles out of danger of the fire.
Everybody survived.
From all I have read, no one has lost their life to this fire...yet, anyway.
I did read that there is 17 percent containment.
