The soft sound he hadn't even realized Lila was making stopped. Only in it's absence did Calan realize it had ever been. He sighed, and plastered a smile to his fast. A question he knew how to answer at last! "The dragons and their tamers stay together in a cave. So ... I could stay here, it you let me." He would have nowhere comfortable to rest. Even so, it would be far more comfortable then sleeping alone in his hut of a home. Here at least there would be some kind of company.

"In my cave?" Well he had asked, and that was better than Calan parading him off to wherever the human's home was. He pulled back from Calan a bit, looking around, with a thoughtful expression on his face. "I have nothing soft for you to sleep on, Calan. Don't humans like to sleep on soft things? Dragons like the feel of the hard gold under their scales, hard but it feels rather soft to us. Our bodies are much harder than gold. It's so much easier to guard when you sleep on it too, I suppose we've just gotten so used to it that it's comfortable for us." He blinked, feeling a little foolish for rambling about sleeping on gold.
Still that thoughtful expression was on his face. Some of the trees out on the beach had wide fronds. Perhaps those would make a soft bed for Calan? Oh and he could gather a coconut while out there, Lila loved to chew on coconuts. His teeth were hard enough and sharp enough to easily pierce the hard shells when in his dragon form and he rather enjoyed the milk and soft flavorful insides of the coconut. "Calan, can you climb coconut trees?" Before the human could answer, Lila had moved way, grabbed his hand and was tugging him towards the beach.
"Calan! The fronds from the tree are soft, you could sleep on a bunch of them, and knock down a coconut or three for me." He had turned his head to look at Calan, the smile on his face akin to a child who had just been given their favorite thing in the world. There was also a hint of pride, at coming up with the wonderful idea of Calan sleeping on soft leaves.

It was so easy to fall into silent fascination. To listen to Lila's explanations of a dragon's life .. Why every little thing made Calan want to learn as much as he could. This explanation of hard scales made him think of dragon poachers, who would kill the marvelous beings to steal every inch of their bodies, to put them to use for human greed. He shuddered at the thought of something like that happening to Lila.
A hand tugging him pulled the young man from his thoughts. Calan laughed when faced with Lila's expression, the puppy-like exuberance and joy. "Alright, alright. I'll go and get you some coconuts, and some leaves for myself. Just save one of the nuts for me, alright? I haven't eaten very much today." He'd been too nervous at the prospect of getting the dragon's attention by whatever means possible.
Shaking his head, he slipped his sandals from his feet. The sand was warm still, despite the lowering rays of the sun. With a grunt, the young man leaped toward one of the trees. Fingers and toes dug into the palm tree's bark, scrabbling for purchase. By the time the fronds and coconuts had been shoved to the ground Calan was exhausted and night had fallen. He lay there for a moment, cheek against the hard bark above Lila and looking out to the ocean. It was so beautiful. How must it look from the skies? He couldn't help but wonder about it.

He had giggled a bit, though happy that Calan had agreed to get him the coconuts. He wanted in wonder at how easily it seemed to him that the human scrambled up the tree. Lila couldn't do that, not in this form, he usually just plucked the coconuts with his tail or shoved a shoulder into the tree to shake the nuts out of them. Once the coconuts had dropped to the soft sand, Lila sat down under the tree, letting the fronds rain down around him as Calan pulled them free.
They were large, and heavy enough that the light sea breeze wouldn't steal them away. He sat with the three coconuts between his legs. Lifting one, he pressed his finger against it until a thumb sized hole appeared. Almost effortlessly, he still possessed his dragon strength after all. He lifted it to his face and gulped down some of the coconut milk. He drank only half of it, and looked up at Calan, resting in the tree. "Calan! Have you ever drank coconut milk? It's one of my favorite things. Here, I saved you some." Not to mention he still had two perfectly good coconut's between his legs.
Still he held the coconut with the hole in it, up. As if he thought Calan could reach it from his perch in the tree. He knew the human couldn't, but still, the point was, he was sharing his coconut milk. He lowered it, holding the coconut close to his chest to wait for Calan to come and claim it.

The young man made his careful way down the tree trunk. Hurting his hands and feet was the very last thing he wanted to do. It was already bad enough that he would be sleeping on a bed of palm fronds that night, on hard ground. Calan didn't need to add injuries caused by his own carelessness to the list of things he needed to deal with.
He wriggled his shoulders when his feet were planted on firm ground again. Well, as firm as sand could be. "Thank you, Lila." Calan settled on the ground beside the dragon. He reached out to grab the coconut. "I've never actually had any of this before." He wondered about the dragon's predilection for something that wasn't meat.

Lila watched almost anxiously as Calan climbed down the tree and finally came to sit next to him. He let the human take the coconut. "Turn it up and drink the milk, Calan, then I'll split it open and you can eat the insides. They're very soft, unlike the shell." He rapped his knuckles against one of the coconuts resting between his legs when he said the word 'shell'. Coconuts were very hard, difficult to open with out the right tools, but what tools did a dragon need? Just claws and teeth really, and brute strength. Even though his brute strength was less than other dragons it was still greater than a humans.
He watched his human expectantly. A bit of eagerness on his features, certain that Calan would like this almost as much as Lila did, if not more. "Of course, it can't really compare to a nice fat sheep, but it's still very good, Calan. Most humans don't realize, even though dragons eat a lot of meat, we do like some other things. We're very picky when it comes to non meat things but there are some stuff that we like almost as much as meat. Coconuts is one of those things for me." He was wriggling a bit as he sat there, perhaps he shouldn't offer such information so easily, but Calan was his friend right?
It was almost as if Lila had forgotten their earlier...discussion...of mating. He had just shoved it from his mind. They wouldn't be mates because he was a dragon and Calan was a human so the issue was rather resolved. When excited about something or just in a generally good mood, Lila seemed like a cornucopia of dragon information. "There is a dragon in my clan that actually enjoys carrots." His face had scrunched up in to an adorable expression of disdain. Lila clearly did not care for carrots at all.

Calan did as he was told. With the coconut in his hands, he tilted up, and up and just a bit more, until he was able to drink of what lay within. The young man closed his eyes, so he could savor the taste all the more. The milk was sweet and rich, a flavor unlike anything Calan had tasted before. It was good.
Once he was finished, Calan put the coconut on his lap. "It's very good. I wonder what the inside tastes like?" He handed the coconut to Lila, and laughed. How sweet could one person be? The young man opened his mouth to say so, but clamped his lips shut. Friends didn't talk like that. Didn't say anything about how beautiful or dazzling their friends were, not unless it was needed to bring comfort or reassure.

He seemed very pleased that Calan had enjoyed the coconut milk. "It's very delicious inside, Calan!" When that coconut was handed to him, he took it rather eagerly. He held it in his hands for a few moments, he usually bit them in half, or used his claws to cut them open. His human form didn't really have claws, though his finger nails were long like a woman's and came to sharp points. With his strength he was sure it would be enough. He started near the hole he had made to drink the milk from and pushed a fingernail into the hard shell. An intense look of concentration on his face as he worked that nail all the way around the coconut.
He went slow, trying to make sure his line stayed even and when it came full circle back around to the very first hole he had made a look of triumph crossed his features and a small, "Aha!" left those lips. He pulled on the two sides now and it made an almost tearing sound as the tow halves came cleanly apart. The insides were white as snow, glistening a bit with leftover drops of the milk. He handed both to Calan with a smile. "Only eat the white bits, but there's usually a lot in there and it should be easy for you to scoop out with your fingers, Calan." He squirmed a bit, watching the human expectantly.

He accepted the two halves of the coconut with an appreciative smile. Calan hesitated a bit before using his fingers to gouge out some of the white innards of the thing. He didn't know what a coconut was considered, a nut probably, though some might have called it a fruit. Whatever it was called ... Calan took a nibble, and licked everything off his fingers.
The young man let the flavors sit for a while, before taking a bit more with a smile. "This isn't half bad." Though it would take some getting used to.

Well, that was a bit promising. It meant that Calan didn't hate the coconut, at least. Lila just smiled brightly at him. "Well, I think it's very good, Calan." Perhaps in the morning he could go catch them something delicious and meaty for breakfast. His wings twitched at the thought of flying out, of hunting, and it made him wince the slightest bit. Right, that one wing was still rather sore, it hadn't completely knit back together yet. He turned his head, trying to look at it from over his shoulder.
No flying then, for another day at least. Perhaps he could catch them some fish. Though he wasn't sure how well he could do that in this form. That would make things tricky, but he was still just as quick and agile in this form as in his feminine dragon form. So perhaps he could do it. He looked down at his remaining coconuts. He pushed a hole into one, and drank down the coconut milk rather greedily. It was clear that Lila wasn't sharing this one.
Once it was empty, he split it open the same way he had Calan's and began to hungrily devour the insides. Hungrily and yet somehow delicately. That feminine hand with it's slender fingers scooped out the whiteness inside of that broken open shell almost gracefully. Though he only pulled out tiny finger fulls of the stuff and placed them almost gently in his mouth, Lila did eat rather quickly. Looking at his expression it was quite clear that he greatly enjoyed coconut. Though today the coconut seemed especially good, perhaps it was more the company and the scenery around him that just seemed to make things better.

He leaned back against the tree, looking at the sea. The waves rippled and roiled joyfully. It was so calm, so peaceful, sitting there in the dragon's company. Calan yawned, and half closed his eyes. Night was fast approaching, the sky darkened and stars started to twinkle on the velvety darkness. They shone so bright! Even one of those shining stars would have made a perfect addition to Lila's hoard.
Calan smiled softly at the thought. "Shouldn't we be getting inside, to sleep?" He glanced at the golden horned dragon. Calan couldn't be sure what he would call a bed, of where he would rest his weary head.

Everything seemed so perfect, if things could stay this way forever it would be nice. No, Lila pushed that thought aside. No, forever like this? It would get boring after a while, wouldn't it? But moments like this, because they were just fleeting moments is what made them all the more special. When Calan spoke, Lila smiled at him and jumped to his feet. Moving to gather the fronds Calan had plucked from the tree, they were soft, they would be a good bed for Calan. At least, Lila hoped they were soft enough for his friend. He also still had a coconut, he picked that up as well.
They could have that as a morning snack, and then he might see about catching them some fish for an actual breakfast. "Hurry up, then, my sleepy Calan!" Lila was bouncing on his feet, his long hair flittering and fluttering in the light breeze as he hoped around Calan a bit. Lila moved towards the cave, then turned and moved back towards Calan, as if trying to hurry the human along. Lila was sleepy himself, though it didn't seem to show yet, he seemed just as full of energy. Still he had such a long day, and a rather eventful one at that. His wings twitched, and he glanced over his shoulder at the injured one.
Lila pouted at it for a moment, it would heal faster as he slept, but he doubted he would be able to fly tomorrow. A day. He was confident it would only take a day. His face turned back towards Calan, smile on his lips.

He glanced at the fronds. Those must have fallen down while he was climbing in the tree. Calan couldn't remember actually shoving them down, unlike the coconuts. The young man shrugged, and pushed himself up from the sand. It was hard not to smile, white a jumpy excited dragon nearby. Tired though he was, Calan grinned. "Alright, shall we go then?"
He grabbed fronds of his own, and dragged them across the sand. A pleasant swishing sound followed his steps. It was so relaxing, and so exciting, to be on the beach with Lila nearby.
