We had been talking on Skype for a good two weeks prior, so we were already into each other. So I expected things to go really well. Then when we sat down to eat before the fireworks, he just sort of... zoned out. Super quiet. I could barely get any words out of him and he didn't look like he was enjoying himself. What I found out later was that he's a big people watcher and apparently just got too caught up in that. Plus, he thought he saw someone giving beer to a baby so he was glaring that way trying to figure out what was going on. Once we left the cafe he got much more sociable, but that first 40 minutes... oh god. All I could think was "DISASTER, ABORT, WHAT DID I DO, OH GOD, HE HATES ME OH NOOOO." I still give him grief about that sometimes.
@Cherry: It's not so much people watching for me as it is an inability to shut out background distractions when I'm trying to hold a conversation. TV is just background noise to my fiance and he'll be doing random things with the TV on and it drives me nuts since I'm stuck focusing on the crappy TV shows he's watching since I can't ignore them. At least I've managed to convince him that I need a break sometimes or else TV tires me out. (Especially Japanese TV since it's usually mindless "variety shows" with celebrities I don't give a fudge about.

Speaking of Japanese shows, i'm trying to watch Super Sentai and I already saw the first episode of GoBlasters. It is truly a masterpiece of television. Just need to try and watch the rest because of how good it is.

Actually better than the American adapted Power Rangers by Saban.

OH MAN, I can relate to that! My mom likes to leave the radio on. All day. I like background music when I'm doing something cleaning or driving, that doesn't require much thought and no reading, but... throughout the normal course of the day, it just drives me insane. If it's on while I'm on the computer, it just stresses me out in this subtle way that I don't even recognize until it's been going on for hours. I don't mind if she has it on while she's actually listening to it, like while she's cooking or doing dishes, but she'll go outside for hours and leave it on. I've been turning it off more and, man, that silence that comes feels so amazing.

Oh gosh... my mom did that with christian music when she'd leave for hours with her mix of CDs on repeat...
It was that gospel stuff where every song sounds the same D:
They do it with the TV too... just walking away for hours

Hurk. Yeah, music you don't like makes it way worse. My mom used to do it with CDs. To this day I can't listen to Dave Matthews Band or Enya without feeling an indescribable rage... And now she does it with the local classic rock station. I can appreciate some old rock bands, but largely they are not the ones that this station plays. This station just wants to play hair metal, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Journey for 24 hours a day.

It's not that I don't like it... it's just... that genre doesn't really change much...

Right now whenever I go to work I have a cassette tape in my car of old classical music. Nothing beats driving along to have flight of the Valkyrie start playing

I had a date with a guy I was talking to like a year or two ago and he kinda....stalked my interests on facebook and saw I was majoring in a science...and sooooo, decided for our date to take me to a museum consisting of the things I was majoring in.

It was a real sweet gesture, but we just didn't click and I didn't find him attractive in personality or physically after that day.

The guy I'm with now, my fiance, is another story. We met through a mutual friend and I texted him first and he was like half asleep when he texted me and I could not really make it out, but it was cute. Anyway, we later got together and went with his friends and played hide and seek with them in the dark for our first date and we kissed while we were in a hiding spot. The chemistry was instant.
