Yeah, that's just the way it is. But seriously...the one girl just annoys me so much.
[rant]
I walked by her desk at 9:55 this morning. I don't start until 10:00am and she stops me to tell me that she forwarded me an email from one of the places we do printing with that has a promocode and proceeds to explain how she isn't sure if we can use it for the printing we are planing on doing and blah blah blah. WTF. The point of the email is for you to send it and me to read it. No need to tell me every freaking time you send me an email and recapitulate every time what it was about. It's 100% redundant and a waste of my time. It's so bad that she'll send me an email and then walk over to my desk two minutes later to ask me if I received it. Our email only updates every 8 minutes, of course I didn't receive it yet. And it's not like any of it is even urgent or anything, she is just a pest. I tried giving hints. That didn't work. So then I told her verbally that what she was doing wasn't necessary. That didn't get my anywhere either. Eventually I sent her an email to explain clearly how the way she was working with me was not time effective and specifically explained how I want to work with her. That worked for like...a day. T_T

Yeah... Oh well. Maybe I should find that email and re forward it to her again if it starts to get really bad. She's the handholding type and I tend to be a bit more independent so I get annoyed with her easily. It doesn't help that her breath smells really bad while she's standing over me holding my hand though grade level revisions. >.>

Next time she says she sent you an email, say thank you and keep walking. If she tries talking to you either ignore her or just say you need to get back to work and don't have time to chat. Loud enough that other people in the office can hear you.

I'll give those a try and we'll see I guess. I feel bad for her since she lives alone and most of her interaction is with the people she works with but she can just be so annoying... So repetitive... I can't stand it. >.<

You are not at work to make friends. You are there to do a job.

True. It's harder because we're a very small company but eh. Just gotta learn to be more like Long I guess! I have learned to let it roll off my shoulders most of the time but sometimes I just can't.

Work you and not-work you should be two different people.

I should clarify. You are not at work to make friends, but you still need to not be a dick. Be polite, but firm. Work is work. If she wants to make friends she should ask to see if they want to spend time together outside of work. Because if your boss catches you socializing it could result in issues. If she continues, politely let her know that her socializing is cutting into your deadline for X project and if she continues than you will have to take it up with the supervisor as to why your projects are late.

Long doesn't like to deal with people at work who eat into her time. I'm a park ranger, I teach the public. I'm not going to stand around and listen to you whine about the paperwork you need and the emails you need to check, when I probably have people at the front desk who want to know more about turtles.

Seasonal right now, But hopefully I will be double seasonal this winter!!! I have a park for this summer, same park as last summer, but no park took me for the winter season. This summer my chief wants to work one-on-one with me in bettering my teaching techniques and wants me to job shadow the public outreach ranger.

I agree with this, but it can be super difficult to maintain a mutually exclusive "work you" and "non-work you," especially when you and your co-workers are all friends. At least, that is my experience.

Yeah, there are plenty of television show episodes that talk about how it's probably for the best to not work with friends. :U

You don't even have to be a different person at work. Just maintain the mindset that you are not there to socialize. You are there because you were hired to do a job. They can just as easily un-hire you for not doing the job.

I didn't know any of them before I started. We became friends over years of working together.

If everyone is socializing, including your boss...would it not be weird to avoid socializing with them?

I tended to avoid socialization when I worked at the bagel place, but I really kind of hated talking to them, if we're being honest. :U

You need to be aware of how much socializing you're doing. If it starts to cut into your productivity then there's an issue. It's not weird to say "I'm sorry guys, but excuse me I feel that I'm slipping behind on the deadlines/project/work load. I'll catch up with you during lunch/after work for cocktails."
