Spanish at home and with family plus English at school. Plus my mom knew English so it wasn't hard at all.
When you're young you learn and catch things much easier than when you're an adult.
Wow! Major props to you!
That's true with learning things quicker as a kid. My goddaughter picks up things so fast and she's only 2

I only text speak to say things like lol.
Otherwise I type it out.

But I don't have texting on my phone, so I never got into the habit of doing it.

My cousin would speak only German to his son, and his wife would speak English to him. So the kid grew up knowing both languages.

It's funny, cuz my cousin isn't German. He just knew the language and thought his kid should know it to. Now his business transferred him to Stuttgardt.

Wow, that's cool and worked out well for him! I learned English because I was in the states at the time and had to learn it...I remember going to school in second grade and barely able to understand anyone. I mostly mumbled and made vague sounds throughout the part where we had to do the Pledge of Allegiance during the first couple of months. ;;

I'm no help for that, since I never learned grammar. I just go with the 'this feels right' feeling for all my sentences...

I have no idea why people think that just because you live in another country, you have to completely abandon your other language.

...Though one of the reasons is because I have a lot of difficulty understanding my parents' English.

Also it's to keep me from forgetting my Chinese, or I'd have even more trouble with it after coming back to Taiwan.
I had the advantage of learning it as a kid...I can't learn squat of Japanese at my current age.
Both languages are spoken at the house, so it's easy for me to keep learning.
Even now, I'm continuously learning new words in Spanish. lol.
My dad is from Mexico, but his English is really good. He understands and can keep a good conversation going in English.

Oh, I'm sorry I kinda worded that wrong. xD;
English is my first language, just I'm majoring in it and I was agreeing with someone who posted earlier that English can be a difficult language to learn, especially when trying to use they're/their/there correctly for those who get confused with it...
I saw someone post in the thread a few pages back about it.
And yes, sentence structure in English is very difficult to learn; it's always evolving.

You're going it correctly. Best of luck to you.

Hooray!

I know a little bit of each of those, Spanish because of school and German because of the exchange student we had stay with us for a year.
That's ridiculous. He should have been fired, especially passing out in class! Tenure or not, it's not acceptable.

I know! It's so frustrating! It's like they'll type "u" when the other letters to spell "you" are right next to it! Ugh

We were told to "duck and cover".

Yea...like that little wooden desk is going to stave off a nuclear explosion...

I pretty much use Mandarin exclusively in my life these days. English is only for when I'm online, since I rarely ever visit Chinese websites.

I was put off by them about a decade ago when 'Martian' was 'in' at the time...it's like text speak but even worse. Takes forever for me to decipher what they were saying and it was so annoying that I went and looked for English websites instead. I'm so glad I made that decision back then; being on English websites helped keep my English in shape so much.
