"Any hobbies at home? Reading or anything?" Steve knew they'd be able to find some common ground, because they couldn't be soulmates if they didn't have any common ground, at least not as far as he was concerned.

"I do like to read," Hillary said, nodding. "I've tried my hand at drawing, but I'm not all that good at it."

Steve nodded. "I like reading, when I have the time. I probably spend more time drawing people, though."

"You like to draw?" Hillary asked, curious. That was good to know.

"Yeah. Sketching mostly. It's kind of peaceful, kind of nice." Steve shrugged. "It helps keep me occupied, anyway. And I've got some pretty good people to sketch." Although he'd have to see about trying out sketching her, too.

"I can imagine," Hillary said, grinning a bit. She made sure not to smile too wide, though; she didn't want to flash any of her sharper-than-normal teeth. She was still anxious about how he would handle what she was.

"So, I can't imagine that you want to work in retail forever," Steve said, carefully leaving that open so that she could respond or not how she wanted to. He was curious, of course, but he didn't want to come off too pushy or demanding and scare her away.

"I don't," Hillary admitted. She glanced at him quickly and then shrugged a bit. "I just don't have too many options."

Steve frowned at that. "Why not? There are plenty of jobs, things are getting better. Especially here."

"Socioeconomic reasons," Hillary replied, a bit evasive. She still couldn't quite tell how he might handle knowing about her mutation.

Steve nodded. He kind of got that. "Alright. Kinda like me, I guess, growing up. Before the serum. Not many people wanted to hire me, even for the day or odd jobs. Buck ended up making most of the money."

"Yeah, I know how that feels," Hillary said, nodding. "My roommate makes most of the rent. I help out where I can."

Steve nodded. "Sounds like a good roommate," he commented with a bit of a grin, because he knew all about roommates being far too nice and accommodating.

"I'm lucky to have her," Hillary said, nodding. She grinned. "She tolerates a lot from me."

Steve chuckled. Yeah, he knew how that felt, very well.

"I get that. It's nice, though, having someone like that around."

"It really is," Hillary agreed, nodding. She went quiet, not sure what else to say.

Steve was also quiet for a few moments, at least until the waitress came over to see what they wanted. He got his normal; black coffee and peach pie.

Instead of coffee, Hillary asked for black tea and apple pie. It had been a while since she'd had a good apple pie.

Steve grinned. "I like the apple here, it's good. But the peach is in season, so I figured I might as well get it while I can."

"I don't like most kinds of pie," Hillary admitted with an embarrassed little smile. "I only recently found I like apple. Before, it was just pumpkin and chocolate."

"Pumpkin is always good, and chocolate depends. There are some really good chocolate pies, and some really bad ones." Steve shrugged with a little grin. "I've tried most of the smaller places in the area."

"Somehow, I'm not surprised," Hillary said, grinning a bit. "Though I will admit, I love cheesecake."

"I prefer the kind with raspberry," Steve said with a little grin. "Some others are pretty good too, though."

"Strawberry," Hillary said. "Though not cherry, I don't like cherries much. Or blueberries."

"Blueberries are good, but they're especially good covered in chocolate," Steve said with a bit of a grin. "Strawberries are fine."
