"Strawberries in chocolate is the universe telling us it loves us and wants us to be happy," Hillary said, grinning. "And Nutella on toast is good too."

"Nutella is good on a lot of things," Steve said. "I'm actually kind of glad we didn't have that back in the 40's, because Bucky and I would have been even more broke trying to get that stuff."

"It's amazing," Hillary said, grinning. "Liz usually makes sure we always have some around."

"We have jars of it in the tower, we all like it so Tony just orders it in bulk." Steve grinned. "He bought one of those ridiculously large jars once, the one that's a few pounds. It was empty in a week."

"I've heard of those jars," Hillary said, grinning. "Unfortunately, it would go to waste in our apartment, because I can't eat too much of it at once and Liz probably shouldn't eat a jar that size all by herself."

Steve snorted. "I like how for her it's "probably shouldn't" instead of "can't". Worried she'll get the most massive sugar rush and do something stupid?"

Hillary raised an eyebrow.

"That much Nutella at once can't be good for anyone," she pointed out.

Steve shrugged. "I'd burn through it in a few hours," he said. "So would Buck."

"That's crazy," Hillary said, blinking. "Any more than a couple of spoonfuls makes me sick."

Steve grinned. "I can eat almost anything now. We've discovered that Nutella on blini are delicious. They're like crepes, but Russian."

"I'm on something of a special diet," Hillary admitted. She was a bit surprised at how easy it was to tell him such things. "More red meat than anything else. Too much of anything besides the meat can make me sick."

Steve nodded. "Yeah, I've heard about a lot of special diets nowadays. I got used to eating whatever we could get, but there were some things we had to avoid. Too much dairy was bad for me. Too much grease, too, although it could be hard to get fresh meat."

"I totally get how rough a special diet can be," Hillary said. She looked at him curiously. "So I have to ask, what's your favorite food?"

"Food or meal?" Steve raised an eyebrow. Because those were different, and sometimes changed a bit.

"Ooh, good question," Hillary said. She considered for a moment. "Both."

Steve grinned. "My favorite meal is probably a hamburger, fries, soda, and milkshake. My favorite food changes, depending. Right now I'd say pie."

"I like hamburgers," Hillary said, brightening a bit. "It's just enough meat to offest everything else on it, they're perfect for me."

Steve grinned at that. "There are at least five places in the area that I think are really good," he said. "Maybe we can meet up at one of them for lunch or dinner sometime?" He flushed a little but didn't take it back.

"Sure," Hillary said. She blushed when she realized she'd said it so quickly.

Steve nodded with a smile and let the silence hold for a few moments as their pie and drinks arrived.

"Just let me know when," he said once the waitress was gone again.

"I'll check my schedule and get back to you," Hillary promised. She took a sip of her tea and just let it warm her for a moment.

Steve felt the sensation of warmth, even though he hadn't had any of his coffee yet, and hid a smile behind his mug. Yes, he could definitely feel the bond now, and he was glad he could.

Hillary felt an echo of contented amusement and couldn't help but smile as well. The bond felt good when it wasn't feeding her nightmares about freezing and loss.

Steve let the silence stretch while they worked on their drinks and pie. No emergencies were happening, they were getting along, it was a good first date.

Now hopefully he'd be able to convince Bucky to go find his dame and do the same.

Hillary was comfortable to let the silence stretch, as well. She wasn't quite ready to tell him what she was, yet, but for a first date, everything was going really well, and she was pleased.
